At exactly eight in the morning, Gu Anyun walked out of the mansion under Nan Qiu’s sorrowful gaze.
The driver had already brought the car to the entrance.
The black Phantom shimmered like a thin layer of gold under the sunlight as the driver, wearing white gloves, opened the rear door.
Gu Anyun got into the car, and the driver closed the door behind her.
Nan Qiu stood at the entrance, watching the Phantom drive away.
Once the car was out of sight, Nan Qiu immediately took out her phone and dialed Jin Chenyue’s number.
“Young Master, the young mistress has left. She said she made an appointment with you to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get a divorce. Is this true?”
On the other end, the man fell silent for a moment before replying in a low, unreadable tone, “She left this early?”
“Yes,” Nan Qiu answered dejectedly.
Suppressing her sorrow, she asked cautiously, “Are you really going to divorce the young mistress?”
After a few seconds of silence, Jin Chenyue responded indifferently.
Nan Qiu’s nose stung with emotion, and Jin Chenyue hung up the phone.
Listening to the busy tone, Nan Qiu covered her face in grief. “This is too heartbreaking…”
After hanging up, Jin Chenyue pinched the bridge of his nose.
His assistant asked beside him, “Boss, are we still going to the resort?”
“Cancel all my morning appointments.”
Assistant Li Yang was surprised. “All of them?”
“Yes,” Jin Chenyue glanced at the time. “You drive. We’re going to the Civil Affairs Bureau.”
Li Yang: “? What for?”
“Divorce.”
Li Yang: “?!”
The black Phantom navigated the city streets. It was a weekday, and the morning rush hour traffic was heavy, causing some congestion.
Gu Anyun sat in the back seat, scrolling through her phone.
She had a cousin who was a director, a wealthy heiress who kept an unusually low profile. Her family background was tightly guarded, and she had been in the desert for three months filming an art-house movie.
Gu Anyun was three years younger than her. The family called her Little Star, and the two had been close since childhood, maintaining contact as adults. They got along well in many ways.
Naturally, Gu Anyun had also discussed her divorce with Little Star.
Little Star: 【Men are all unreliable. It’s better to focus on your career than on men. Long live singlehood!】
Gu Anyun: 【…】
Little Star was a firm believer in staying single. When she heard about the divorce, she almost set off fireworks in the desert to celebrate.
Gu Anyun replied with an ‘okay’ emoji and exited the chat.
Turning to look out the window, she suddenly realized the red light seemed unusually long.
She glanced at the driver. “What’s going on?”
“Young mistress, there’s a traffic jam ahead.”
Gu Anyun checked the time. She and Jin Chenyue had agreed to meet at nine.
“How much longer?”
“The navigation says there’s a two-kilometer stretch ahead that will be congested for about twenty minutes. It seems there’s been an accident.”
Gu Anyun frowned slightly.
At this rate, she would be late.
“Can we take a detour?”
The driver checked the navigation. “There’s another route, but it’s a bit longer.”
Gu Anyun pressed her temples, which were starting to ache. “A detour is better than being stuck here.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
The driver glanced in the rearview mirror, signaled, and began turning the car around.
However, an accident occurred at that very moment.
A black sedan behind them, likely tired of waiting, suddenly accelerated to cut into another lane. The white sedan being cut off was driven by a novice, who panicked and mistakenly hit the accelerator—
Bang!
The sound of a collision, accompanied by sharp honking, threw the entire line of cars into chaos! The impact’s inertia sent Gu Anyun flying forward, the back of her head striking the car door with a heavy thud. Instantly, a ringing filled her ears…
“Young Madam?!”
Outside the Civil Affairs Bureau, a black Rolls-Royce was parked by the roadside.
Inside the car, Li Yang didn’t dare make a sound, only occasionally stealing a glance at the rear seat through the rearview mirror.
The man in the back seat wore his usual indifferent expression, but his narrow eyes seemed unfocused.
It was already 9:10 AM. Gu Anyun was ten minutes late.
Jin Chenyue had checked his watch several times. As the minutes ticked past, his feelings grew complicated.
On one hand, he wondered why Gu Anyun still hadn’t arrived.
On the other, he couldn’t help but entertain the thought—had she changed her mind?
His phone vibrated in his pocket. Jin Chenyue, somewhat belatedly, lowered his head and retrieved it.
It was a call from the driver, Xiao Chen.
He pressed the answer button and raised the phone to his ear, immediately hearing Xiao Chen’s tense, panicked voice: “Y-Young Master…”
Jin Chenyue’s heart sank. Sensing something was wrong, he frowned. “Where is the Young Madam?”
“We were rear-ended on Zhongbei Road. The Young Madam… she’s unconscious…”
