Noticing that Gu Huai’s mood seemed a bit off, Bo Jianyan involuntarily looked down at him several times. He patted Gu Huai’s shoulder reassuringly and whispered, “I am here.”
He then took the opportunity to hold Gu Huai’s hand, gently rubbing it with his thumb.
Gu Huai did not know what was happening to him, but upon hearing those words, he felt as if something deep inside his heart had settled. Even though he had not known Bo Jianyan for very long, he seemed to be becoming a bit dependent on this man.
Gu Huai gave a soft “Mm” and walked in with Bo Jianyan.
Both were striking enough to draw attention, but the banquet host happened to be introducing the organizers at that moment, which pulled most of the crowd’s focus. Still, Gu Huai felt a bit uncomfortable with people noticing their joined hands. He paused before lowering his voice to whisper in Bo Jianyan’s ear, “Brother Bo, there are too many people here, let us let go for now.”
They were standing very close. As if afraid of being overheard, Gu Huai’s warm breath brushed against the shell of Bo Jianyan’s ear, making it itch. Looking down, Bo Jianyan could see Gu Huai right there; how could someone be this cute?
Bo Jianyan retracted his gaze and replied quite frankly, “Alright.”
Only Ye Yunsui stared thoughtfully at their newly separated hands. Seeing Gu Huai’s somewhat unnatural expression, a smile eventually curled onto Ye Yunsui’s lips after a long moment. This is getting more and more interesting, Xiao Huai.
Gu Huai and Bo Jianyan sat down together. Beside them, Song Chengchi, who had been waiting for them for ages, saw Bo Jianyan’s beaming expression. He did not even need to think to know that this guy had definitely gained some benefits from his wife. His lip could not help but twitch.
Bo Jianyan’s eyes were practically glued to Gu Huai. Any observant person could tell the two were close.
Gu Huai’s focus was entirely on the stage. When he saw Gu Chong’s family of three walk up, the coldness in his eyes became impossible to hide. He gripped the armrest beside him tightly, his veins bulging slightly. Bo Jianyan naturally took note of these subtle movements.
On stage, Gu Chong smiled broadly as he delivered his speech, “Thank you all for coming to this banquet. I also want to take this opportunity to introduce my son, Gu Yi.”
Seeing the old man’s face, Song Chengchi felt a strange wave of goosebumps and whispered a complaint to Bo Jianyan, “Bo the Dog, where did this Gu Yi pop up from? I never heard about this old man having another son before.”
Bo Jianyan silently observed the family of three, then turned his gaze back to Gu Huai. The Gu family? Gu Huai’s reaction suggested he had some history with them. Bo Jianyan thought about it but decided it did not matter much; whether it was the Gu family or anyone else, the only one he wanted was Gu Huai.
Watching the serious expression on Gu Huai’s face, Bo Jianyan felt a light tug at his heart, as if a cat were gently scratching it.
Gu Huai stared unblinkingly at the person on stage. He wanted to see exactly how Gu Chong planned to push his unpresentable son forward against all opposition.
The audience below buzzed with whispers. Many people’s expressions shifted upon hearing those words. Gu Chong remained unfazed, his voice carrying weight as it landed in everyone’s ears, “In two days, Gu Yi will officially begin working at the company. I ask for everyone’s patience and guidance where he falls short.”
The circle was full of rumors about this son of the Gu family, but most people refrained from bringing up those scandalous private matters in public out of courtesy. However, seeing Gu Chong like this, it was clear he was determined to prop Gu Yi up.
Song Chengchi took a look and tsked, “Has this Madam Gu even officially entered the Gu family yet? I heard that when they tried to hold the wedding a while back, the son of the original wife smashed the whole place to pieces.”
Gu Huai, the person in question, silently looked away.
Gu Chong had certainly tried to suppress the news, but with so many people talking, the truth eventually pieced itself together. Family scandals really should not be aired in public, Song Chengchi mused. Seeing the family of three on stage, he could not help but feel indignant for the original wife’s son, “I have seen shameless people, but never anyone this shameless.”
“No wonder the original son went to trash the wedding.”
Gu Huai felt a bit awkward hearing this, but also a little happy. It turned out that in the eyes of others, his actions were perfectly reasonable. The discomfort in his heart was instantly swept away.
The seats Gu Huai and his group had chosen were right in the center. With their extraordinary looks and temperament, it was easy to see them from the stage if one looked closely.
Gu Yi had zero interest in what his father was saying. He scanned the crowd and actually caught sight of an interesting scene. He could recognize that person even if they were turned to ash. He gritted his teeth and silently mouthed the words, “It is you again, Gu Huai.”
But seeing Gu Huai talking and laughing with the person beside him, a side of him Gu Yi had never seen, made him feel instantly annoyed. Usually, when they met, they would start fighting within a sentence or two. Gu Yi pondered for a moment; it was not like he was that unlikeable, so why did he always lose his cool whenever he saw Gu Huai?
Perhaps sensing the intense gaze on him, Gu Huai suddenly looked up toward Gu Yi. His expression was indifferent, as if he were looking at an insignificant stranger.
Being looked at so coldly, Gu Yi instinctively lowered his head, not daring to meet Gu Huai’s eyes. But then he thought, he is his father, why am I being such a coward? So what if I look at him? Just as he was thinking of how to win the round back, his mother pulled him, “Xiao Yi, go with your father to greet your uncles.”
Gu Yi turned his head reluctantly, not forgetting to shoot a fierce glare at Gu Huai, “Gu Huai, you just wait.”
Gu Huai naturally understood what he meant. He looked back without hesitation but did not speak, as he could not be bothered to communicate with someone like that.
Bo Jianyan although listening to Song Chengchi, his gaze was constantly drifting toward the childish behavior between Gu Huai and Gu Yi. It seems baby is hiding quite a few things.
How could he make baby tell him everything willingly? Should he pin him against a wall and kiss him until he gave in? Or should he do something even more wicked?
After a moment of thought, Bo Jianyan could not help but curse himself, “You are sick.”
He was going crazy; why could he not stop wanting to bully the boy?
Song Chengchi thought the curse was directed at him and felt confused, “Wait, man, have I reached the point where I get scolded just for saying a few words?”
Bo Jianyan replied, “You do deserve to be scolded.” He then turned back to chat with Gu Huai.
Song Chengchi was completely speechless. He watched as the illegitimate son and the old man acted politely with the Ye family. After a few glances, he caught the gaze of the Young Master Ye. Even though the man had a smile on his face, his gaze made Song’s skin crawl. Moreover, why was the Ye scion staring so intently at his “brother-in-law”?
Song Chengchi kept thinking to himself, “Holy crap, that look, is he planning something murderous because Bo the Dog insulted him last time!?”
