16 – Chapter 16

An Sheng never expected Bo Jinye to personally make a pillow for her. She quickly smiled and leaned against the man’s shoulder to coax him, “Oh, I misspoke earlier.”

Bo Jinye unhappily drooped his head, tugging and pulling at the corner of his clothes.

An Sheng noticed the needle marks on the man’s hand and the crooked band-aid hastily stuck on.

She hurriedly took his hand to examine it closely.

The man’s hand, slender like plum branches, would surely gain high popularity and enchant hand-loving girls if posed for short videos online.

But now, the fingertips were covered with puncture marks from needles.

An Sheng lowered her gaze and sighed softly, “A Ye, if only you had been this attentive earlier.”

Belated affection is cheaper than grass.

Fortunately for them, it wasn’t too late.

“Sheng Sheng, I’m sorry.” Bo Jinye could only apologize.

Besides apologizing, he didn’t know what else to say to An Sheng.

An Sheng held his hand tightly, their fingers interlaced, and smiled as she kissed the back of his hand, “It’s okay…”

“I will forgive you.”

“Thank you for making the pillow. I really like it, and it’s very comfortable too.”

Bo Jinye cheered up, pouncing on An Sheng and nuzzling against her chest.

Then he added very seriously, “Actually, there’s one more most comfortable place.”

“That’s right here in my arms.”

An Sheng chuckled lightly, tapping her finger on the man’s chest, “Then has any other woman ever leaned against this most comfortable place of yours, A Ye?”

“No!” Bo Jinye immediately shook his head, then after thinking for a moment, hugged her tighter, “And no man either.”

An Sheng nearly choked with laughter.

“Fourth Brother, Fourth Brother, are you awake?”

Outside the room, You Xin was scratching at the door like a cat.

Bo Jinye growled angrily, “No!”

“Fourth Brother, you are awake. Grandma called me, what should I do?” You Xin cried out pitifully.

Bo Xiyuan came over and dragged him away, “What’s the use of looking for President Bo when Old Madam calls?”

“He’s a fool now, he can’t help you in front of Old Madam either.”

You Xin had forgotten this in his panic. Reminded by Bo Xiyuan, he looked utterly dejected, “What should I do then.”

During breakfast, An Sheng asked curiously, “Did your grandmother call to tell you to go home?”

These past few days, she had vaguely felt that You Xin wasn’t just Bo Jinye’s subordinate.

Or perhaps, he wasn’t Bo Jinye’s subordinate at all.

Otherwise, Shi Yan and Bo Xiyuan wouldn’t treat You Xin with such an attitude.

They treated You Xin like a master, just like Bo Jinye.

It seemed she needed to investigate what kind of family background her pillow companion actually had.

You Xin gloomily grunted in agreement, poking at the ham on his plate, “If Fourth Brother were still okay, he could help me stay.”

“But with Fourth Brother like this, I’m definitely going to be called back by Grandma.”

Bo Xiyuan poured him some milk, “Didn’t you say Old Madam agreed to let you come?”

“I lied. Anyway, I already ran away and came here.” You Xin slumped over the table.

Bo Jinye secretly rolled his eyes. After the meal, he avoided An Sheng and made a call to the capital.

He managed to keep You Xin here.

It wasn’t that he pitied the kid.

But he wanted this kid to protect An Sheng at school.

The people at Carlton were all either wealthy or noble, and You Xin’s status could intimidate most of them.

Bo Jinye was worried that when An Sheng went to school, she wouldn’t want to reveal her identity as Madam Bo.Come to think of it, being confined to the old mansion for four years after marriage—what’s so great about this status?

If this man hadn’t been reborn, there would be nothing worth holding onto.

You Xin was overjoyed to learn he could stay and pestered Bo Xiyuan, asking, “Didn’t Fourth Brother lose his senses? How did he talk to Grandma?”

“He just read from a note,” Bo Xiyuan brushed him off casually.

After all, Young Master You Xin was easy to fool.

You Xin believed it without question, so elated that he practically floated as he walked.

An Sheng asked Owen to investigate Bo Jinye. Owen was taken aback, then grew somewhat excited. “Do you think there’s something off about him?”

“I just want to understand him better.” An Sheng paused, her tone turning serious. “Owen, I’m very happy now.”

“Even if I weren’t happy, aside from Bo Jinye, I wouldn’t develop any special feelings for another man.”

“Do you understand, Owen?”

An Sheng wasn’t blind to Owen’s feelings; she had explicitly rejected him countless times over the past four years.

And she rarely communicated with him.

But Owen always believed that An Sheng and Bo Jinye were incompatible—that as long as he silently stood by her, there would still be a chance.

Yet when it comes to matters of the heart, how can mere devotion ever be enough?

Sometimes, An Sheng wondered: if she could start over, would she choose a man like Owen, who loved her so deeply, instead of Bo Jinye, whom she loved but could never fully have?

Regrettably, each time she pondered it, she felt she would still choose Bo Jinye.

There was silence on the other end of the line before a deep male voice finally responded, “I know…”

An Sheng hung up, sincerely hoping that this time Owen would let go of his obsession.

If Owen couldn’t move on, they wouldn’t even be able to remain friends.

She didn’t want to hold Owen back, nor did she want Owen to affect her relationship with Bo Jinye.

“Sheng Sheng—”

The man ran into the room, hugging and nuzzling against her. “Sheng Sheng is so warm.”

“I’m not warm. Where did A Ye run off to play?” An Sheng laughed, tilting her head to give him a kiss.

Bo Jinye carefully presented something to An Sheng. “For Sheng Sheng. I finally got it.”

An Sheng looked down—it was a red velvet box.

What was inside? It wasn’t hard to guess.

“A Ye, are you sure you want to give this to me? Once you give it to me, you can’t give it to anyone else,” An Sheng asked him.

“Of course I won’t give it to anyone else.” Bo Jinye opened the box to reveal a diamond ring set.

The man knelt on one knee, reverently taking An Sheng’s hand. “I want to put it on Sheng Sheng.”

The ring slid slowly into place, settling on the girl’s ring finger.

An Sheng held up her hand to examine it, feeling more and more that it looked familiar—though she couldn’t quite place why.

Where had she seen it before?

Logically, Bo Jinye would have custom-made the rings, since they were essentially their wedding bands.

“A Ye, where did you buy the rings?” An Sheng asked.

Bo Jinye blinked. “Xi Yuan…”

An Sheng pulled him up and went to find Bo Xiyuan. “Were the diamond rings ordered recently, or were they bought earlier?”

Bo Xiyuan glanced at Bo Jinye, then answered honestly, “President Bo had them commissioned right after his visit to the old mansion.”

“It’s Tiffany’s private custom design. Do you not like it?”

An Sheng took off the diamond ring. The man beside her panicked, his heart racing as he gripped her hand, barely able to conceal his emotions. “Sheng… Sheng Sheng?”

“Don’t you want to wear wedding rings with me?”

An Sheng patted him reassuringly. “No, I just want to take a closer look. Don’t be nervous, sweetheart.”

An Sheng turned the ring over, holding it up to the sunlight to examine the outer band. The gilded lines shimmered faintly.

The girl smiled, glancing at Bo Jinye. “A Ye and I share a telepathic bond.”

This was a diamond ring she had designed using Ming Shangchuan’s alias—one of a kind.

Moreover, it was a piece she created in her teens, though the draft was later lost. She had no idea how it had ended up as a private custom piece at Tiffany & Co.

It seemed someone had stolen her design.
