The following day, Chen Qingzhou and his group finally made it out of the dangerous mountain range.
Once they left the mountains, the number of zombies increased significantly.
Gu Nuan woke up groggily and rubbed her eyes. Looking around, she couldn’t find Chen Qingzhou. She pulled back the curtain beside the bed and saw him asleep in the driver’s seat. He had been driving throughout the entire night without stopping and was completely exhausted.
Picking up a blanket, Gu Nuan quietly walked into the driver’s cabin. She saw Teacher Chen sitting there with his arms folded across his chest, his head tilted to one side, and his lips cracked from dehydration.
He hadn’t even stopped for a drink of water.
Her heart ached for him as she gently draped the blanket over his shoulders.
“You’re awake,” Chen Qingzhou said hoarsely when he saw her.
“Go and sleep on the bed in the back.”
Gu Nuan gently stroked his face.
“It’s already daylight, so I won’t sleep. We should leave this place as soon as possible. I’ll freshen up first.”
After Chen Qingzhou went to wash up, Gu Nuan took steamed soup dumplings and soy milk out of the System Space, along with a cup of the stream water for him.
“Come and eat something before you start driving again.”
“Alright.”
Chen Qingzhou leaned over and kissed her forehead before gently placing a hand on her stomach.
“How are the babies today? Have they been behaving?”
“They’ve been very good. Hurry and eat. I’ll go wash up too.”
After Gu Nuan left, Chen Qingzhou quickly finished breakfast in just a few bites. The moment he drank the stream water, all the exhaustion in his body disappeared.
This water was truly miraculous.
He got out of the vehicle and went to discuss their departure with Xia Tian and the others.
Not long after they set off, they encountered six zombies.
As Chen Qingzhou prepared to get out of the vehicle, Gu Nuan grabbed his arm and took three homemade bombs out of the System Space.
“Take these, just in case.”
“It’s alright. Stay in the vehicle.”
After giving her a few instructions, Chen Qingzhou tucked the bombs into his pocket and climbed out. Xia Tian and the other two followed him.
The zombies immediately lunged toward them the moment they caught the scent of living humans.
Activating his lightning ability, Chen Qingzhou unleashed three bolts of lightning in a single attack.
As the zombies closed in, Xia Tian waved his hand, instantly freezing them solid. Then he stepped back and clenched his fist.
The frozen zombies shattered into pieces.
The scene was rather disgusting.
“Ugh… that’s revolting.”
Lu Qingshan hurriedly jumped aside and quickly checked whether any blood had splattered onto him.
The zombies weren’t high level, so they were dealt with very quickly.
“Go dig the crystals out of their heads,” Chen Qingzhou said to Xia Tian and the others. “Absorbing those crystals will help increase your abilities.”
If his guess was correct, only Xia Tian had already reached Level 1, while the other two were still at the beginner stage.
“What? Can those things do that?” Sun Zecheng said regretfully. “Then all the crystals from the zombies we killed before were wasted.”
Chen Qingzhou ignored their reactions. After using his psychic ability to confirm there were no more zombies nearby, he returned to the vehicle.
“It’s taken care of.”
Gu Nuan was already preparing lunch. She planned to make pork rib soup, so she needed to start cooking early.
After washing his hands, Chen Qingzhou wrapped his arms around her from behind and rested his chin on her shoulder.
“What are you making today?”
“How about pork rib soup and pineapple fried rice for lunch?”
She looked up at him.
“Sounds perfect. Just make whatever you like. I’m not picky. These three little ones have huge appetites, so make a little extra.”
As he spoke, he gently rubbed her stomach.
By now, Gu Nuan’s pregnancy was becoming visibly noticeable.
“I know, I feel like I’m hungry all the time lately. Carrying triplets uses up so much energy.”
She pouted as she complained.
“Then eat more.”
Chen Qingzhou smiled.
“I’ll go driving now. Don’t tire yourself out. Take your time cooking.”
“Okay.”
Gu Nuan stood on tiptoe and kissed him on the cheek.
Completely satisfied, Chen Qingzhou returned to the driver’s seat, even humming a cheerful tune as he drove.
Meanwhile, Xia Tian and the others returned to their own vehicle after collecting the zombie crystals.
Just as they were about to start the engine, they discovered the fuel tank was empty.
“What do we do now?”
“What’s wrong, Brother Tian?” Sun Zecheng asked.
“We’re out of fuel.”
“What? Then what are we supposed to do?”
Chen Qingzhou had already started his own vehicle and was about to drive off when he noticed they hadn’t moved. He immediately stopped and walked over.
“What’s wrong, Brother Tian?”
“We’ve run out of fuel. What should we do?”
“No fuel? That’s fine. Wait a moment.”
After saying that, Chen Qingzhou headed back to Gu Nuan.
“What’s happened?” she asked.
“Brother Tian’s vehicle is out of fuel.”
Gu Nuan immediately took a large container of petrol out of the System Space and handed it to him.
Carrying it over, Chen Qingzhou filled up Xia Tian’s vehicle.
The three men were completely stunned when they saw the amount of petrol he had brought.
Where had he been storing such a huge container?
Their vehicle certainly didn’t have room for it.
Then there were the tents, quilts, generator, and all the other supplies he had produced earlier. Where had all of those come from?
Chen Qingzhou had previously claimed he found everything in a small town.
Xia Tian didn’t really believe that explanation.
Still, he didn’t ask any questions.
After all, they were travelling together now. Whenever they encountered trouble, Chen Qingzhou had never abandoned them.
Since that was the case, there was no need to pry into his secrets.
Once the fuel tank was filled, the convoy set off once again.
