Early the next morning, they were awakened by loud banging on the door. Chen Qingzhou looked up and saw several zombies pounding against it. He paid them no attention. They could never get inside anyway. Gu Nuan, however, had just woken up and jumped in fright the moment she saw them.
“It’s alright, they can’t get in. The windows are explosion proof, and the doors are made from a rare titanium alloy that they can’t damage. Watch this.”
Chen Qingzhou walked over to the control panel and pressed a red button. Two sharp crackling sounds filled the air, and the zombies immediately collapsed to the ground. It was an electric current. Even the explosion proof mesh surrounding the outside of the motorhome could be electrified.
Their motorhome really was a treasure. The only question was whether it would still be effective against the higher level zombies they would encounter later. Right now, the Apocalypse had only just begun, so all the zombies were still low level.
Gu Nuan remembered that after three days and three nights of black rain, many zombies had evolved. They would develop crystal cores and awaken special abilities, making them far more difficult to deal with.
After getting rid of the zombies, Gu Nuan and Chen Qingzhou had breakfast. Gu Nuan made a simple bowl of Yangchun noodles. Once they had finished eating, they continued their journey, taking back roads the entire way without encountering any obstacles.
When they passed through a forest, Gu Nuan got out to gather mushrooms. Before the black rain fell, she wanted to stockpile as many supplies as possible. Once the rain came, everything outside would become contaminated and inedible.
“Qingzhou, look at these mushrooms. They’re huge. They look delicious. I’ve picked enough, let’s go.”
“Mm! Hurry and get back in. It’s safer inside the motorhome.”
Chen Qingzhou carefully helped Gu Nuan back into the vehicle before driving on.
Gu Nuan stored the mushrooms inside the System Space, washed her hands, then took out two apples, handing one to Chen Qingzhou while keeping the other for herself.
“These apples are so delicious.”
“Mm! They’re really sweet.”
The journey was rather boring, so Gu Nuan switched on the radio and kept changing stations. To her surprise, she actually found a working broadcast.
The country’s leader was giving a speech, encouraging everyone to stand united and overcome the crisis together. He promised that the nation would never abandon its people and would do everything possible to find a solution to the zombie virus.
In the past, hearing those words would have filled Gu Nuan with passion and hope. But now that the Apocalypse had arrived, the future was impossible to predict.
At a time like this, staying alive was all that truly mattered.
The motorhome continued forward until a large group of zombies suddenly blocked the road ahead.
These zombies looked even more ferocious than the ones they had encountered before. Their eyes glowed with an eerie red light.
“What should we do?”
Gu Nuan’s voice trembled as she looked at Chen Qingzhou, who tightened his grip on the steering wheel, his brows deeply furrowed.
Gu Nuan grew tense as well. She placed one hand on the door, ready to fight at any moment.
Just then, an enormous zombie charged straight at the motorhome and slammed into it with tremendous force. The entire vehicle shook violently.
Chen Qingzhou immediately activated the electric defence system, but to his surprise, the zombie was completely unaffected by the current and continued its frenzied assault.
Loud bangs echoed repeatedly as it pounded against the motorhome.
Chen Qingzhou picked up his long sabre and got out.
“Be careful!” Gu Nuan called anxiously.
The moment he stepped outside, the zombie lunged at him. Chen Qingzhou twisted his body aside and narrowly avoided the attack.
The zombie immediately struck again.
Chen Qingzhou swung his long sabre, but the blade missed its head, only leaving a deep wound across one of its arms. Enraged, the zombie leapt forward and tried to bite his neck.
At that critical moment, Chen Qingzhou drove his foot into the zombie’s chest, sending it flying backwards.
Only then did the tightness in Gu Nuan’s chest ease slightly.
Chen Qingzhou had combat skills, and having survived the Apocalypse in his previous life, he knew exactly how to deal with zombies.
The zombie quickly got back up and attacked again.
This time, Chen Qingzhou did not move.
He calmly waited until it was within striking distance, then brought his sabre down in a single clean slash, severing its head.
Even though Gu Nuan had already experienced the Apocalypse once before, the bloody scene still made her stomach churn, and she immediately began dry heaving again.
The remaining zombies were much weaker. Chen Qingzhou dispatched them one by one with a single strike each.
Just as he was about to get back into the motorhome, he looked down at the blood covering his clothes. Afraid that the smell would make Gu Nuan feel sick, he took off his bloodstained jacket and threw it onto the ground. Then he used the motorhome’s external water hose to rinse off his shoes before finally climbing back inside.
“That zombie was incredibly strong. It scared me to death.”
“It’s alright now. It’s only the second day of the Apocalypse, yet zombies this powerful have already appeared. I think the black rain from our previous life might arrive earlier this time.”
Chen Qingzhou spoke with a serious expression.
“What? Could this be the butterfly effect caused by our rebirth?”
Chen Qingzhou looked at Gu Nuan, gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, and smiled softly.
“It’s possible. A lot of things have already changed from our previous life. For example, we have our babies now, don’t we?”
As he spoke, he gently rested his hand on Gu Nuan’s stomach, his eyes filled with affection.
