By the time Chen Yuan was down to her last 500,000 yuan, life was still as peaceful as ever.
She began to think she had guessed wrong. Maybe there would be no transmigration and no apocalypse after all. She was just about ready to stop worrying and coast through life—
Then a meteor shower carrying an ancient virus struck the Earth.
Overnight, half of the world’s population turned into zombies.
Of those who survived, one in ten awakened supernatural abilities.
Chen Yuan was one of the lucky ones.
What frustrated her, however, was that her primary ability was a spatial ability—and it started with a storage space of less than ten square meters.
Fortunately, that wasn’t all she awakened.
She also gained two additional abilities: a psychic ability and superhuman strength.
She had become a rare triple-ability user.
In the apocalypse, even dual-ability users were exceptionally uncommon, let alone someone with three abilities.
She really was incredibly lucky.
It was probably thanks to the spiritual spring water she had been drinking for so long.
During the early days of the apocalypse, Chen Yuan traveled across the country, collecting clothing, bedding, pots and pans, furniture, household appliances, and other miscellaneous supplies, along with refrigerated and frozen foods that would otherwise spoil.
She had never been particularly ambitious.
She was a little lazy and hated unnecessary trouble.
Her original plan had been simple: live alone, kill zombies when necessary, gather supplies, and quietly survive until the end of her natural lifespan.
Reality, however, proved far crueler than she had imagined.
Less than a year later, she could no longer bear the loneliness.
She had naïvely believed that as long as she had enough food, enough entertainment, and occasionally killed a few zombies, life wouldn’t be boring.
Reality slapped her hard across the face.
Just when the loneliness became unbearable, she met Ying Tao.
Ying Tao was the captain of the Thunderbolt Squad from the Second Base. A lightning-type ability user, he and his team had been sent out on a supply-gathering mission when they happened to encounter Chen Yuan, who was surviving on her own.
“Interested in joining our team?”
Seeing how skilled she was in combat and how capable she appeared, Ying Tao extended an invitation.
What he didn’t know was that Chen Yuan had spent more than ten years learning martial arts and sanda before the apocalypse.
Combined with her immense physical strength, it was only natural that she was such a formidable fighter.
When someone had been alone for so long, an invitation like that was hard to refuse.
Chen Yuan readily agreed.
Life inside the base was full of schemes, deception, and political infighting.
Fortunately, none of that seemed to concern her.
As long as she followed the squad on missions, everything would be fine.
At least…
That was what she had thought.
But once you lived inside a base, many things were no longer up to you.
As time passed, and with the constant benefits of the spiritual spring water, Chen Yuan’s abilities advanced much faster than anyone else’s.
Her storage space had grown from less than ten square meters to a thousand square meters.
Even better, she had awakened a new spatial skill.
Spatial Blink.
Within a hundred-meter radius, she could move instantly through walls, underground, or anywhere she wished.
At a time when most spatial ability users possessed storage spaces of only a hundred square meters or so and served as nothing more than walking warehouses, Chen Yuan’s abilities naturally attracted countless jealous eyes.
Some of the higher-ups in the base had even begun to see her as a threat.
If Chen Yuan had known that, she would have laughed.
You’re already afraid of me just because of my spatial ability?
What if you found out I also have psychic abilities? That I can launch mental attacks, control both humans and zombies, and even hypnotize them? Wouldn’t you be scared to death?
“Yuan’er.”
The voice alone told her it was Ying Tao.
For some reason, every time he called her that, Chen Yuan found it unbearably greasy. It made her skin crawl.
She had hinted several times that she didn’t like the nickname.
As a result…
He started calling her “Sister Yuan.”
That was somehow even worse.
“Yuan’er, all seven squads in our base are joining forces to hunt the Zombie King. Get ready. We leave tomorrow,” Ying Tao said.
“Captain, I’m on my period these past few days. I’m really not feeling well. Can I sit this mission out?”
For some reason, her heart had been pounding nonstop lately.
Especially the moment she heard about this mission.
Every instinct in her body was telling her not to go.
“What? Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” Ying Tao said, clearly displeased.
Tell you sooner?
You didn’t tell me about the mission any earlier either, Chen Yuan grumbled inwardly.
Ying Tao continued, “You’re the strongest ability user on our team. I’ve already promised everyone that you’d definitely be joining us.”
“But—”
He cut her off before she could finish.
“We really can’t do this without you. You’re fast, and with your Spatial Blink you can keep the Zombie King distracted while the rest of us attack. Just bear with it this once. When we get back, I’ll give you a long vacation.”
Seeing the pleading look in Ying Tao’s eyes, what else could Chen Yuan say?
In the end…
She agreed.
…
Outside the base…
“Yuan’er, we’re counting on you.”
Ying Tao patted her on the shoulder.
Chen Yuan understood immediately.
Using Spatial Blink, she darted left and right, constantly attacking the Zombie King to draw its attention while the others launched their assault.
Then she noticed something strange.
Maybe it was just her imagination…
But some of the attacks didn’t seem to be aimed at the Zombie King.
They seemed to be aimed at her.
Not only did she have to dodge the Zombie King’s attacks—
She also had to avoid attacks from her own teammates.
A moment’s carelessness was all it took.
An ice spike pierced straight through her arm.
Furious, Chen Yuan spun around, determined to see who had been deliberately targeting her the entire time.
That single moment of distraction…
Was all the Zombie King needed.
With one strike, it ripped through her chest.
Chen Yuan died on the spot.
