8 – Injured
A plane that took off from Berlin Airport landed at 2:10 AM at Terminal 3 of the Jing City Airport.
Even in the early hours of the morning, there were still many flights taking off and landing at Jing City Airport.
Shen Yu walked out of first class, with Fang Ziheng pushing the luggage close behind.
They passed through the airport’s express lane and went directly to the VIP parking area.
The Shen family’s driver had already been waiting there for quite some time.
Shen Yu opened the car door and got into the back seat of the black Bentley.
After loading the luggage, Fang Ziheng sat down in the passenger seat.
The driver asked Shen Yu, “Young Master, are you returning to the old residence?”
The Shen family’s old residence was a manor located in the suburbs of Jing City, occupying over a thousand square meters.
“Let’s go back to Yingcui Huating,” Shen Yu instructed.
From the day they obtained their marriage certificate, he had flown abroad—all told, it had been ten days now.
He wanted to go take a look and see what Chi Wanwan had done to the place.
The car slowly passed through the quiet streets of Jing City, and after more than forty minutes, it stopped at the entrance of the residential complex.
Fang Ziheng very conscientiously got out to help Shen Yu with the luggage.
“President, let me carry your luggage up for you.”
“No need. You go back. Tomorrow at nine, you must appear at the company on time.” Shen Yu reached out and took the pull handle of the suitcase.
“Alright, understood.”
Having worked under Shen Yu for five years, Fang Ziheng had long since grown accustomed to his boss’s hellish mode.
Shen Yu pushed the silver-gray suitcase and walked through the main gate of the complex.
When he reached the front door of the apartment, he unlocked it with his key and pushed the door open.
He sat on the shoe-changing bench in the entryway and swapped into his house slippers.
In the shoe cabinet, there were over a dozen more pairs of Chi Wanwan’s shoes—some high-heeled, some flat-soled.
Shen Yu planned to go back to the bedroom to sleep in a bit, so he didn’t turn on the lights. The outside was brightly lit, so there was a bit of light inside as well.
He walked to the refrigerator, pulled open the door, and took out a bottle of mineral water.
At that moment, Chi Wanwan heard the noise in the living room and immediately sat up alertly.
Previously, Shen Yu had said he would be abroad for half a month, so it couldn’t possibly be him coming back.
Then… there was only one possibility.
A thief had broken into the house!
Chi Wanwan pinched her palm, forcing herself to calm down.
She had practiced judo for ten years, after all—how could she be so cowardly?
She didn’t turn on the light. She felt her way off the bed in the dark and grabbed the vase from the desk.
Carefully, she opened the bedroom door a crack. Through the gap, Chi Wanwan clearly saw that a petty thief had indeed broken in.
Moreover, the petty thief seemed to be rummaging through the refrigerator.
After the petty thief outside closed the refrigerator, he even sat on the sofa drinking something.
This was intolerable.
Was the petty thief treating this place as his own home??
Chi Wanwan tiptoed over. She wasn’t wearing shoes, and combined with her relatively light weight, she didn’t make the slightest sound as she approached.
Now was the moment—the petty thief had his back to her, sitting on the sofa.
Chi Wanwan raised the vase in her hand and brought it down toward the petty thief’s head.
She planned to knock the petty thief unconscious first, then call the police.
Just as the vase was about to hit his head, Shen Yu felt a chill at the back of his skull.
He raised his hand to touch the back of his head, but his hand was struck by the vase instead.
“Bang~~”
A sharp pain shot through him. Shen Yu let out a muffled groan and gritted out through his teeth, word by word: “Chi… Wan… Wan…”
Hearing the familiar voice, Chi Wanwan turned on the table lamp beside the sofa.
Only then did she see clearly who was in front of her—there was no petty thief at all. It was Shen Yu who had come back!
She had just hit Shen Yu’s hand with a vase, leaving a five-centimeter gash on the back of his hand.
Blood dripped down along his fingertips.
“Shen Yu, I’m sorry! I thought a thief had broken into the house.”
Chi Wanwan quickly pulled open the drawer of the TV cabinet, took out the first-aid kit, and crouched beside Shen Yu to tend to his wound.
“Shen Yu, why did you come back early?”
“The project was settled ahead of schedule, so I came back as soon as I was done.”
Chi Wanwan used a cotton swab to clean Shen Yu’s wound. It looked quite deep.
It made her heart ache to see it. Her eyes reddened, and tears welled up.
“I’m sorry, I was groggy from sleep. I really thought a thief had gotten in just now.” Chi Wanwan sniffled, guilt spreading through her heart.
“Are you stupid? If a thief really had broken in, you shouldn’t have come out even more.” Shen Yu’s voice was cold.
“It’s fine. I trained in judo for ten years. I can protect myself.”
“With those skinny arms and legs of yours, who could you possibly fight?” Seeing Chi Wanwan in her pajamas, Shen Yu immediately looked away. “Also, don’t let other men see you like this.”
Hearing this, Chi Wanwan finally realized she was wearing pajamas.
Summer pajamas were rather thin.
Her face flushed red. She forced herself to stay calm, swept her waist-length hair forward, and lowered her head to continue bandaging Shen Yu’s wound.
After putting the medicine back in its place, Chi Wanwan turned and quickly went back to her room.
She changed her clothes before opening the door again and stepping out.
Having accidentally injured Shen Yu, Chi Wanwan felt somewhat guilty and thought about making him a late-night snack.
“Shen Yu, you were on a plane for over ten hours. Are you hungry? Want me to make you something?”
“Not hungry.”
“Oh, I’m hungry.” Chi Wanwan headed toward the kitchen. “Then I’ll just make a single portion…”
“Wait.” Shen Yu called out to stop her and said, “Actually, I’m a little hungry now.”
“Okay, then I’ll make an extra portion. It’ll be ready soon.”
Only after Chi Wanwan walked into the kitchen did she let herself laugh. Shen Yu’s awkwardness was truly hilarious.
He clearly wanted to eat but was too embarrassed to ask at first.
Chi Wanwan took a pack of ramen and the braised pork she had made that day out of the fridge.
She put the noodles into boiling water, cooked them for three minutes, then drained them and tossed them with the braised pork, braising sauce, and chopped scallions.
Two bowls of fragrant braised pork noodles were ready.
“The noodles are done. Come sit and eat.” Chi Wanwan brought the noodles to the table.
Shen Yu got up and walked over, sitting across from Chi Wanwan.
His right hand was the injured one, and he normally used his right hand for chopsticks.
Now that it was injured, he could only use his left hand, eating the noodles with extremely clumsy movements.
The noodles Chi Wanwan made were delicious. Shen Yu hadn’t been very hungry at first, but he finished them quickly.
“Chi Wanwan, who did you learn to cook from?”
“Hm?” Chi Wanwan swallowed the noodles in her mouth. “From my mom. Why? Is it bad?”
Chi Wanwan looked at the spotless bowl in front of Shen Yu. It couldn’t have been that bad.
“Nothing, I was just asking.” Shen Yu shook his head and stood up. “I’ll head back to my room then.”
“Okay, rest early. Goodnight.”
Shen Yu paused mid-step. “Goodnight.”
On this night of returning home late, he had gotten a minor injury by accident, but Shen Yu had also seen Chi Wanwan’s gentle and considerate side.
Her gentleness and thoughtfulness did not seem feigned.
Instead, they came out naturally.
Of course, when she had just hurled the vase at him, she had not been quite so gentle.
Chi Wanwan had no idea what Shen Yu was thinking. After finishing the noodles, she still had to wash the bowl and tidy up the kitchen.
By the time she lay back down on the bed to sleep, it was already close to four in the morning.
