Half an hour later, having probably comforted Ye Fei, Lu Jiayu came downstairs.

He had changed his clothes and was now wearing pajamas—the same style as the ones he had taken earlier.

Sitting on the sofa, he stared blankly at his phone.Full novel: After the Breakup, the Tycoon Doted on Me to the Heavens — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Several times, he reached out, but ultimately did not pick it up.

Sang Yu’s soul was forced to leave the guest room.

Now, just being near Lu Jiayu made her feel nauseated, so she chose the sofa farthest from him and sat down.

Her eyes fixed on the television.

At that moment, a social news report was airing.

Today might have been an utterly terrible day—a plane bound for the other side of the Pacific had crashed, and the richest man, Ji Huaichuan, was among the list of victims.

Sang Yu thought of the dim underground parking lot, wondering if anyone had discovered her body yet.

“Buzz, buzz, buzz—”

Lu Jiayu’s phone vibrated frantically.

His eyes lit up for a moment as he quickly picked up the phone, but the light in them instantly faded.

He pinched the bridge of his nose. “Hello, Brother Wang.”

Brother Wang was Lu Jiayu’s manager. Sang Yu had met him a few times—he was a man of considerable skill.

When he first learned that she and Lu Jiayu were dating, he had even sought her out for a heart-to-heart talk.

His message was simple: for the sake of Lu Jiayu’s career, he hoped she could give him more space.

He didn’t outright demand they break up, but rather insisted that she couldn’t interfere with Lu Jiayu’s kiss scenes, publicity stunts, or rumors.

At the time, Lu Jiayu thought his manager was forcing him to break up with her and even threatened to terminate his contract.

Later, realizing it was a misunderstanding, he had always treated Brother Wang with respect.

Sang Yu curled her lips. This was precisely Brother Wang’s brilliance.

“Jiayu, where are you now?”

There was only one person and one soul in the living room, and the television volume was low, so Sang Yu could clearly hear the voice on the other end.

“Home,” Lu Jiayu replied, his voice tinged with exhaustion.

“Mr. Ji’s flight has had an accident. Have you seen the news?”

“Huh?” Lu Jiayu had been lost in thought earlier and hadn’t paid attention to what was being reported on TV.

“With Mr. Ji’s incident, the heat has overshadowed the rumors about you and Ye Fei. I can’t reach Sang Yu. Tell her she doesn’t need to post on Weibo anymore.”

After finally managing to suppress the heat, if Sang Yu were to post on Weibo now, it would surely stir up another storm.

Brother Wang didn’t care about the affairs of Ji Corporation’s top brass. No matter who took power, it wouldn’t affect workers like them.

Lu Jiayu responded with a faint “Mm.”

Brother Wang knew he had been overwhelmed by the matter today and didn’t disturb him further, hanging up the call directly.

In Brother Wang’s view, Lu Jiayu and Ye Fei together could create greater benefits.

One a film emperor, the other a film queen.

Sang Yu, an outsider to the industry, was insignificant.

Lu Jiayu rubbed his phone, his thumb hovering over Sang Yu’s phone number.

She was sharp-minded. Seeing that text message, she should have understood his intention to break up.

Two hours had passed since that message was sent.

Sang Yu still hadn’t posted on Weibo. Could it be that she was unwilling to break up?

Lu Jiayu’s thoughts wandered, unaware that he felt a sense of relief at this realization.

“Buzz, buzz, buzz—”

His phone vibrated once again.

Lu Jiayu’s expression tightened, and he immediately answered the call.

“Aunt Wen.”

It was her mother. Sang Yu’s face finally showed some emotion as she immediately floated over.

Suppressing her nausea, she sat on the coffee table opposite Lu Jiayu.

All she wanted was to hear the voice on the other end clearly.

“Can you get in touch with Xiao Yu?”

The person on the other end of the phone spoke with a detached tone, completely different from their usual attitude.

Lu Jiayu’s heart tightened. He knew why.

“Auntie, I—”

“It seems you haven’t contacted her.”

The other party hung up.

Lu Jiayu’s unease grew. Sang Yu was always reliable; she wouldn’t be unreachable for no reason.

It was understandable if she didn’t contact him, but she would never ignore calls from her family.

Sang Yu’s heart felt icy cold.

After her parents retired, they moved to the countryside to live out their golden years. As their only daughter, how would they cope when news of her death reached them?

“Lu Jiayu, if only I hadn’t been with you.”

In the depths of her agony, a single tear fell from her soul.

It landed on the coffee table, spreading into a watery blossom.

Lu Jiayu saw it and, though puzzled, felt an overwhelming discomfort in his heart.

Without further hesitation, he immediately called Sang Yu.

Again and again, he received only one response: “The number you have dialed is currently unavailable. Please try again later.”

Lu Jiayu could no longer sit still. He had to go find Sang Yu.
