Lu Jiayu didn’t even change out of his pajamas, casually grabbing the coat draped over the sofa.

He put it on while heading out.

He still hadn’t forgotten to keep dialing Sang Yu’s number.Full novel: After the Breakup, the Tycoon Doted on Me to the Heavens — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“No need to waste your efforts.”

Sang Yu said, “Even if I’m not dead, I won’t answer your calls. Breaking up means breaking up—there’s no need to drag it out.”

No one heard her words.

“Jiayu, where are you going?”

Just as Lu Jiayu reached the entrance hall and was about to change his shoes, Ye Fei appeared at the corner of the staircase.

She was wearing Sang Yu’s pajamas, her hair cascading over her shoulders.

Her eyes were filled with unease as she looked at Lu Jiayu.

Sang Yu’s heart had already grown numb. She wanted nothing from this place anymore, including Lu Jiayu.

If Ye Fei wanted to wear her pajamas, so be it.

She thought maliciously, it’s just picking up secondhand goods anyway.

“Sang Yu’s family can’t reach her. I’m going to check her apartment.”

“But the paparazzi are everywhere outside. If you go looking for her, won’t you just confirm the rumors online? Your career will be ruined!”

Ye Fei looked anxious as she hurried down the stairs.

With three steps left, she accidentally tripped and fell.

“Be careful!”

Lu Jiayu wanted to catch her, but they were too far apart. He could only watch helplessly as Ye Fei tumbled to the floor.

Sang Yu sneered. When someone truly mattered, the treatment was different.

Three steps, and the floor was covered with thick carpet—how badly could she possibly be hurt?

Lu Jiayu carried Ye Fei to the sofa, intending to check her foot.

Just as he lifted the hem of her pants, his hand was stopped.

“I’m fine.”

Ye Fei’s face flushed crimson.

Sang Yu watched coldly from the sidelines.

In the past, Lu Jiayu would have found Ye Fei’s shy demeanor amusing, wanting to tease her.

To him, Ye Fei was a breath of fresh air in the entertainment industry.

Pure and unaffected.

But now, his mind was preoccupied with Sang Yu’s disappearance, and he couldn’t muster any interest.

He withdrew his hand. “Go to sleep first. I’ll be back soon.”

As long as he confirmed Sang Yu was safe, he would return—so Lu Jiayu thought.

“Do you really have to go?”

The blush faded from Ye Fei’s face.

Jiayu had already chosen her, so why did he still care about Sang Yu?

“Yes, I have to.”

Ye Fei suddenly threw herself into Lu Jiayu’s arms, clinging tightly to his neck. “If I don’t let you go, will you choose to stay?”

Lu Jiayu stroked Ye Fei’s long, straight hair cascading down her back. “I’m not one to look back, and neither is Sang Yu.”

“But I don’t want you to go looking for her. It’s been two years—we finally mustered the courage once. Sang Yu won’t blame you.”

Sang Yu thought to herself: So it’s true.

So it turns out falling in love on set really does happen.

She still remembered that youthful romance film, where the male and female leads went from school uniforms to wedding gowns.

At the time, she had even thought it was her and Lu Jiayu’s story brought to the big screen.

How laughable!

When heartache numbs you, you stop feeling anything at all.

These past two years must have been quite the “hardship” for this star-crossed couple.

Lu Jiayu hugged Ye Fei back. “It’s not Sang Yu’s fault. I’m the one who wronged her.”

He had thought he could rein in his feelings, but recently, while working with Ye Fei on a new project, that heart-fluttering sensation felt undeniably real.

So, after filming wrapped up, he went on a date with Ye Fei.

He hadn’t yet figured out how to break up with Sang Yu when today’s incident happened.

Fearing that extreme fans might harm Ye Fei, he immediately brought her to the villa.

Ye Fei still hadn’t let go of Lu Jiayu. She whined and clung to him, “I want you to stay with me today.”

“I promise I’ll be quick.”

Lu Jiayu patiently coaxed Ye Fei, “When I come back, I’ll make you tomato and beef soup. You haven’t eaten all day.”

“I want to eat now. It’ll be so late when you get back.”

Lu Jiayu hesitated.

In the end, he decided to cook for Ye Fei first, then go find Sang Yu.

He went to the kitchen, with Ye Fei following closely behind him.

The man was tall, the woman petite.

They looked perfectly harmonious together.

Sang Yu stared blankly toward the kitchen.

Lu Jiayu had learned to cook for her.

Tomato and beef soup was also her favorite dish.

Now, Lu Jiayu was going to do the things he once did only for her, for another woman.

Because of Lu Jiayu’s special job, they couldn’t go out on dates. Every time, they would cook at home and watch movies.

The Lu Jiayu who belonged only to Sang Yu was dead.

He died two years ago.

Or perhaps even earlier.
