Before Li Beichen could figure out what happened to his bedroom door, he was preemptively invited by the police for questioning.

The reason was simple: Li Mo had reported a crime. She handed over the tampered-with car, along with the clues gathered by the private investigator, to the criminal investigator in charge of the case.

Once someone files a report, the police must accept it. Since Li Mo also provided evidence with clear indications of guilt, even if the police respected Li Beichen’s status, they still had to ask him to cooperate with the investigation.Full novel: After the Cannon Fodder Awakens, They Marry the Heroine! — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Li Beichen panicked at first, but then calmly sat in the police car. By the time he arrived at the police station, his legal team was already conducting serious negotiations with the police.

Faced with the troublesome legal team, the police were getting a headache and had to notify Li Mo, the complainant, to come and assist with the mediation.

Thinking of a certain person she had locked up at home, Li Mo’s gaze became hidden, and she turned to her assistant.

“Have Lawyer Wang lead his team over there. If Li Beichen is detained, I’ll give his team an extra one million yuan. For every additional day, I’ll add one hundred thousand, with no upper limit.”

“If they can secure a criminal detention, the bonus will be doubled,” Li Mo lightly tapped her fingers, adding another condition.

The assistant’s eyes widened in shock. President Li is too generous! If he ends up being sentenced to one year, that’s over seventy million yuan! Instant wealth!

“I’ll send you the information the private investigator found later. You can provide it to them as appropriate,” Li Mo said, standing up and patting the assistant’s shoulder. “If you do a good job, the bonus will be doubled.”

“Don’t worry, President Li! I’ll keep a close watch!” The assistant was instantly energized. Her bonus was already quite high; if it was doubled, it would be close to one hundred thousand!

Strike while the iron is hot. Although Li Mo couldn’t directly get rid of Li Beichen, she showed absolutely no mercy in other areas.

After the assistant left, she contacted the person responsible for the previous public opinion war. She sent over the photos of Li Beichen being taken away by the police and immediately transferred five million yuan.

Wen Runan groggily opened her eyes. The light filtering through the curtain gap suggested it was around noon.

“Li Mo, I’m hungry…” Wen Runan’s voice was very hoarse. Upon waking, she habitually called out Li Mo’s name.

“Li Mo?” Wen Runan propped herself up in bed. Her neck and collarbone, covered in red marks, were exposed to the air. She looked questioningly at the sofa nearby. Finding no one, her eyes looked blank.

Li Mo put me through so much last night, and she’s not watching over me like before today? Was I abandoned!

Rubbing her overused waist, Wen Runan picked up the silk nightgown placed by the pillow and casually wrapped it around herself.

“Hiss—” Wen Runan gasped. The moment her foot touched the carpet, before she could put any weight on it, the soreness in her muscles caused her to kneel on the floor first.

“066, where is Li Mo?” Wen Runan rested for a while before standing up again, beginning her search for her phone.

“Host, Li Mo has left. A friendly reminder: the Host’s cell phone has been taken away, and the main door has been locked,” 066’s emotionless, mechanical voice rang out.

“Wait—” Wen Runan’s brain took ten seconds to process the information. “So, you’re saying I’m now under house arrest, can’t leave this house, and have lost all means of external communication?”

“Yes,” 066 replied. “If the Host needs assistance, you can use one hundred points…”

“What about surveillance? Are there many cameras in this room? Is Li Mo monitoring me through surveillance cameras while she’s at work?” Wen Runan asked. If one listened closely, it wasn’t hard to detect a hint of excitement in her tone.

“…” 066 clearly noticed this, remaining silent for five seconds before answering. “No surveillance has been installed in the bedroom. Host, please refrain from over-imagining.”

“Oh, is that so,” Wen Runan immediately felt bored. She thought Li Mo was going to pull off a whole ‘CEO Forced Love’ trope.

“Host, if you are willing to use one hundred points, the System can help you leave here and acquire the corresponding communication tools.”

Wen Runan raised an eyebrow. “Leave? Why would I want to leave? Isn’t staying here nice?”

“Host, you’ve been locked up. Your personal freedom is restricted. You should be thinking of a way to regain your freedom,” 066 couldn’t help but complain.

“That’s not right. It depends on the person. If Li Beichen had locked me up, I would be prying the locks, smashing the door, and screaming for help right now,” Wen Runan said, rubbing her sore muscles.

“Then what are you planning to do now, Host?”

“What else can I do? If Li Mo doesn’t let me go, I’ll just stay here obediently.” Feeling her muscles relax, Wen Runan attempted to stand up again.

Although her legs still felt uncomfortable, with preparation, she managed to endure the soreness.

Leaving the bedroom and rubbing her stomach as she reached the kitchen, Wen Runan predictably saw a prepared lunch. Because it was insulated well enough, it didn’t even need reheating; she could just take it out and eat.

“066, if it were anyone else, they wouldn’t be so thoughtful as to prepare lunch,” Wen Runan ate with great relish, enjoying every bite. These were all her favorite dishes.

066 remained silent. It was well aware of Wen Runan’s previous experiences, so it had no argument to counter her.

Wen Runan sprawled out on the sofa like a lazy cat, barefoot, with only a small blanket covering her midsection. She munched on potato chips while engrossed in a palace drama playing on the big screen. When a dramatic plot twist occurred, she would exclaim in surprise, completely absorbed in the show.

This was the scene Li Mo saw when she opened the door after work. Honestly, it was slightly different from what she had imagined.

In Li Mo’s view, even if Wen Runan wasn’t crying or making a fuss, she shouldn’t be acting as if nothing had happened, and even… so happy…

“Li Mo, you’re back.” After receiving the System’s alert, Wen Runan immediately kicked off the small blanket and ran toward Li Mo, her bare feet hitting the tile.

Wen Runan dove into Li Mo’s embrace. Since she wasn’t wearing shoes, she immediately wrapped her legs around Li Mo’s thigh to avoid contact with the cold floor.

“I’m hungry. Didn’t you bring dinner back?” Wen Runan looked up at Li Mo, asking with a rightful air.

“…” Li Mo fell into a brief silence, then spoke with a hint of confusion. “Don’t you have anything you want to ask me?”

“Enn? Didn’t I just ask?” Wen Runan tilted her head. “Where is my dinner?”

Li Mo fell silent again. She used her hand to gently stroke Wen Runan’s cheek, the emotion in her eyes complex. “What do you want to eat? I’ll have someone prepare it and send it over.”

“I want hot pot!” Wen Runan declared her demand loudly. “Lots of meat! I want to cook it myself!”

“Alright,” Li Mo agreed, supporting Wen Runan with one hand and carrying her back to the sofa like a child.

She crouched down, pinched Wen Runan’s ankle for a moment, and then slipped a cotton slipper onto it. “Wear your shoes next time. The floor is cold.”

“Got it—” Wen Runan drew out the end of her words, casually leaning back and nestling into the soft sofa.

About twenty minutes later, the nearby house help arrived with the necessary hot pot ingredients. Finding that the employer didn’t require further preparation, she quickly left with the kitchen waste.
