Having her demands met, Wen Runan was extremely obedient. She didn’t ask a single unnecessary question during dinner and was very thoughtful, helping Li Mo cook meat and mix dipping sauces.

Wen Runan neither complained about wanting her phone nor brought up leaving. Li Mo likewise acted as if nothing had happened, calmly accepting her overtures.

“Since I didn’t go to work today, will my salary be docked?” After showering, Wen Runan sat cross-legged on the bed, tilting her head to ask.Full novel: After the Cannon Fodder Awakens, They Marry the Heroine! — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Li Mo’s gaze didn’t leave her computer screen, as she monitored the public opinion trends online. “No, I requested three days of paid sick leave for you.”

Wen Runan nodded. Today was Wednesday. Three days of leave meant the weekend followed. By that calculation, she had at least four more days to lie around here.

“Li Mo, I’m so bored,” Wen Runan tossed the book she was reading aside, flopped backward, and lay spread-eagled on the bed. “I want to buy a game console. Can I?”

Li Mo’s hands paused. She slightly narrowed her eyes and looked over. “A game console? You want a computer?”

“No, it’s the kind specifically for gaming. It can connect to a big screen and you use a controller to operate it,” Wen Runan explained. “One that can play single-player games is enough. After they’re downloaded, it doesn’t even need an internet connection.”

“When you go to work, I’m alone at home, and just watching TV is too boring,” Wen Runan added another detail, making her suggestion sound reasonable.

After three seconds of eye contact, Li Mo slowly nodded. “Tell me the specific items you need. I’ll bring them to you tomorrow afternoon.”

“Okay—” Wen Runan rolled over on the bed. After listing the desired games and console model, she picked up the book she had tossed aside and continued to pass the time.

After an unknown amount of time, Wen Runan vaguely felt someone moving her body and tucking her leg, which was hanging off the bed, back under the covers.

With a restricting arm resting on her waist, Wen Runan’s groggy mind finally registered what was happening. Li Mo had finished her work and come to bed.

“You worked hard…” Wen Runan mumbled, also reaching out to hug Li Mo, and habitually rubbed her chin against Li Mo’s collarbone.

Li Mo looked down, staring at the crown of Wen Runan’s head for a long time, then let out a soft laugh.

“Wen Runan, you really aren’t afraid of me at all,” Li Mo murmured, the turbulent emotions in her eyes slowly settling.

After spending a massive five million yuan of real money, the news that Li Beichen attempted to murder his own sister and was taken away by the police for investigation quickly spread across public platforms.

It entered the top ten trending topics at eight o’clock that evening and was only reluctantly suppressed to the mid-thirties by Li Father and the Liu family working together by noon the next day.

“Old Brother Li, don’t blame me for being unreasonable. If Beichen can’t leave the police station after forty-eight hours, I’ll have to reconsider Lulu’s engagement with him.”

Liu Father quickly came to visit after receiving the news. Without much small talk, he directly stated his purpose.

“Don’t worry. I’ll handle this matter quickly. It won’t affect the children’s engagement,” Li Father’s expression was not good. With his two children turning against each other, his reputation was naturally affected.

“I’m relieved to hear you say that,” Liu Father said with a long sigh. “Lulu is a child I’ve doted on since she was little. She’s been frantic these past two days because of your Beichen.”

Li Father forced a smile in agreement. “Lulu is a good child. When she marries into the Li family, we won’t treat her poorly.”

“Our Lulu is very worried about Beichen’s situation; she stayed up all night,” Liu Father sighed again.

With the conversation having reached this point, Li Father naturally understood his implication. He could only continue to smile, adding an extra percentage point of shares to the so-called betrothal gift before finally managing to send Liu Father off.

“Are those lawyers useless! It’s been a whole day! Why hasn’t he been bailed out yet!” Once Liu Father left, Li Father immediately lost his temper, slamming his teacup on the floor in anger.

“President Li himself is unwilling to cooperate, and the legal team representing Ms. Li is very difficult to deal with,” Li Beichen’s secretary reported, head lowered. “The opposing side likely has a lot of evidence they haven’t released yet. Every time we gain the upper hand, a new piece of directed evidence emerges.”

“Furthermore, the public opinion has not yet subsided. Those people are very protective of their reputation and won’t make a move at this time.”

Li Father lit a cigarette, took a deep drag, and held it in his mouth. “Where is Li Mo now?”

Secretary: “Assuming no surprises, President Li should be at the company.”

Li Father extinguished the remaining half of the cigarette in his teacup. “Prepare the car; take me to the company.”

Li Mo took over Jiaheng directly from Li Grandfather, as her relationship with Li Father wasn’t good. Therefore, after she took control, Li Father held no position other than the honorary title of Director.

When she heard Li Father was looking for her, Li Mo was not at all surprised.

“Tell him I’m busy, and arrange for him to be well hosted in the reception room,” Li Mo was busy fiddling with the game console her assistant had just delivered, seemingly checking if it had any special features.

“Yes, I’ll arrange it,” the assistant left very quickly, not asking any unnecessary questions.

After examining the game console, Li Mo opened a drawer and took out a custom-made wristwatch, carefully wiping and calibrating the time.

After letting Li Father wait for about half an hour, Li Mo finally rose from her seat, smoothly walking toward the reception room while tidying her sleeves.

“Father, I was busy just now.” Li Mo sat down casually, accepted the coffee the assistant brought over, and took a small sip.

Remembering he was here to beg, Li Father composed his expression and spoke in the gentlest tone possible. “Momo, it was wrong of Beichen to do this, but he just had a momentary lapse in judgment.”

Li Mo nodded, blew on her coffee cup, and maintained an attentive look.

Seeing Li Mo offered no response, Li Father had to steel himself and continue. “Beichen is your own brother. The same blood runs in your veins. Any conflict can be resolved privately. Making a big fuss will only make others laugh at the Li family and affect Jiaheng’s stock price.”

“Did the stock price fall today?” Li Mo looked up at her assistant.

The assistant quickly pulled out his phone. “President Li, since the market opened today, the stock has risen by zero point three percentage points. Counting from this week, the cumulative increase is one point one, showing an overall upward trend.”

Li Mo smiled calmly. “Father, Jiaheng’s stock price is very stable. Occasional dips are just minor fluctuations. You don’t need to worry too much.”

“Li Mo, no matter what, Beichen is your brother!” Seeing that kind words were ineffective, Li Father’s attitude hardened, attempting to exert pressure using his status as her biological father.

“If you still acknowledge me as your father, go to the police station and withdraw the case immediately!”

“What a coincidence, I was just thinking of saying the same thing,” Li Mo sneered, dropping the smile from her face. She stood up and looked down at Li Father. “If you still want me to acknowledge you as my father, go and persuade my good-for-nothing brother to plead guilty and let him honestly serve his time in prison.”

“If he ever gets a chance to be released, remember to advise him to quietly live off his dividends and stop coveting what doesn’t belong to him.”

With that, Li Mo turned and walked away, ignoring Li Father, who was loudly venting his rage while slamming the table behind her.

Her little darling at home was still waiting for her to bring the game console back; she couldn’t break her promise.
