After Ji Xiran finished her triumphant provocation of Yan Dai, she didn’t waste any more words and hung up the phone immediately.

If a friend’s wife wasn’t doing her job properly, then she was the enemy.

Did Yan Dai think seeing Chu Yuan was that simple? Calling and acting all deep in love. Ji Xiran herself would charter a plane to take her girlfriend to another city for dinner just for a birthday. In this day and age with such advanced transportation, if Yan Dai had the guts, she should come back to China and face Chu Yuan in person!Full novel: After The Divorce, My Ex-Wife Is Consumed By Regret — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Yan Dai had been abroad for over half a year. Ji Xiran didn’t believe for a second that she missed Chu Yuan that much. The thought of Yan Dai trying to use this low-cost method of phone calls to trigger Chu Yuan’s “love brain” and keep her hopelessly devoted made Ji Xiran want to explode.

Even if the other party was a top-tier, radiant beauty and the ultimate “crush” of the lesbian circle, it didn’t matter! Her tolerance for women came with conditions. Ji Xiran wasn’t the type to buckle for just any pretty face!

After hanging up, Ji Xiran tossed the phone back to Qin Man and issued a direct eviction notice. “Take care, I won’t see you out.”

“But…” Qin Man hesitated. The task her boss assigned her wasn’t finished yet. How could she dare to leave? She was just someone working for a paycheck, did she not want her job anymore?

But Ji Xiran wasn’t going to give Qin Man another chance to linger in her house. She directly had the housekeeper “invite” Qin Man out.

At first, Qin Man desperately clung to the door. “Miss Chu hasn’t gone back with me yet.”

Ji Xiran was ruthless. “Didn’t she just tell you to get lost?”

Qin Man: It was true. Those were exactly Chu Yuan’s words.

Faced with no other choice, she hesitantly let go of the door. Failing to bring Chu Yuan home meant she couldn’t complete her mission, so she could only report the situation truthfully to Yan Dai across the ocean.

The situation went like this…

As soon as Qin Man received the call, she threw on her clothes and rushed over. At that time, Ji Xiran had only recently driven the tipsy Chu Yuan back to her house. Several maids were responsible for helping the dazed Chu Yuan sober up.

When Qin Man knocked, the housekeeper opened the door. Since the housekeeper already recognized her from a previous time Chu Yuan had been drunk, she let her in.

However, Qin Man didn’t expect to be shut out this time. When she entered the living room and saw Chu Yuan sitting on the sofa drinking honey water, she barely managed to say, “Miss Chu, I’m here to take you home…” before Chu Yuan snapped at her: “Get lost.”

Qin Man was completely stunned. She had felt before that Chu Yuan didn’t seem to like her very much, but in every previous interaction, Chu Yuan had been quite polite, even if it was a distant, formal politeness, she never said anything harsh.

For Chu Yuan to suddenly throw a “get lost” at her with such anger left her bewildered. Although she was just an ordinary worker, she had her dignity!

Ahem… Getting off track. Having been in the workplace for many years, Qin Man wouldn’t get angry over such a small matter, especially since Chu Yuan was clearly drunk. There was no point in arguing with a drunk person.

So, Qin Man continued to persuade her gently. Chu Yuan simply downed the honey water and headed for the second floor without looking back. “I’m not going back with you today.”

This wasn’t the first time Qin Man had come to pick her up, but it was the first time she’d been rejected. Stunned for a few more seconds, she brought out the trump card. “President Yan called me and asked me to take you back.”

Miss Chu liked their President Yan so much, surely she wouldn’t keep refusing?

Hearing Qin Man invoke Yan Dai’s name, Chu Yuan’s footsteps only paused for a brief moment. She didn’t stop, continuing upstairs and throwing back an angry remark. “Even if Yan Dai came to pick me up herself, I wouldn’t go back!”

With that, she left Qin Man with nothing but a cold shoulder.

Qin Man was a bit flustered. Why was she the one stuck coaxing someone else’s wife home after a drunken fight? It was truly bizarre. But there wasn’t much time to overthink it before she ran off, so Qin Man quickly recovered and chased after her.

However, Ji Xiran stepped out halfway and blocked her. Then, Yang Wen called from Berlin on a video call, and the arrogant Miss Ji snatched the phone away without a second thought.

That was the whole story.

After hearing Qin Man’s recount, Yan Dai looked incredulous. “She really said that?”

Meeting that slightly questioning gaze, Qin Man couldn’t help but sound a bit innocent. “It’s the absolute truth. I have no reason to lie to you, President Yan.”

Indeed, Qin Man had no reason to lie. It was just that Yan Dai didn’t want to believe that the sentence “Even if Yan Dai came to pick me up herself, I wouldn’t go back” had come from Chu Yuan’s mouth.

On the surface, Yan Dai didn’t say much. She calmly told Qin Man it was late and that she should go home and rest, even giving her a bonus for the overtime.

Now that Yang Wen had delivered Yan Dai home, it was her own time to clock out, but she sensed something was wrong with Yan Dai’s mood. She felt uneasy about leaving. “President Yan…”

“You’re off the clock. You can go home, no need to stay here.” Yan Dai sat on the living room sofa and picked up an English magazine from the coffee table, acting as if she were unaffected by what just happened.

“But…” Yang Wen hesitated.

She really wanted to say, President Yan, your book is upside down.

But after thinking about it, she chose to stay silent. Forget it, better to save President Yan some face.

When Yang Wen finally left, the massive villa was left with only Yan Dai. Yan Dai wasn’t actually reading, her mind was wandering. She was replaying everything that had happened that day.

Chu Yuan rarely called Yan Dai by her full name. Whether in public or private, she always called her “Sister” or “Wife” in a sweet voice. Occasionally she’d vary it with “Sister Yan” or “Sister A’Dai” it was as clingy as could be, and she’d keep calling her that whether Yan Dai responded or not.

Now, not only was she calling her by her full name, but Yan Dai’s words no longer had any effect. She was even staying overnight at another woman’s house.

Yan Dai leaned back on the sofa, holding the magazine, and remained in that position for a long time before coming back to her senses. She tossed the magazine onto the table and reached a conclusion.

Chu Yuan was starting to dislike her, or perhaps her level of affection was slowly fading. She had expected this day would eventually come.

The next day, around 10:00 AM Beijing time, the hungover Chu Yuan finally woke up.

As soon as she opened her eyes, she vaguely felt another person in the bed. She was dazed for a moment. Ever since marrying Yan Dai, Chu Yuan basically always slept alone. How was there someone else in her bed?!

Upon realizing she had slept with someone else last night, her first reaction wasn’t fear, but a sudden surge of excitement. Was Yan Dai back?

Even though the thought was a bit foolish. Yan Dai hadn’t come back in all this time, so why would she return so suddenly now? But Chu Yuan still held a tiny bit of hope.

Okay, she really did miss her wife.

Chu Yuan rubbed her eyes until her vision cleared. Looking closely, she saw that the person lying next to her was Ji Xiran. Her mood immediately became complicated. There was the disappointment of her hope falling through, but also speechlessness and shock. Regardless of the fact that Ji Xiran was still asleep, she reached out and shoved her hard, waking her up from her dreams.

Ji Xiran had a terrible case of “get up on the wrong side of the bed” syndrome. She could only wake up naturally, if she was woken up, she’d explode.

“What are you doing, what are you doing! Chu Yuan, are you crazy?!” Ji Xiran kicked her legs in frustration.

“Why did I sleep at your house last night?”

“If you didn’t sleep at my house, where would you sleep? You were wasted last night.”

“The point is, why am I in the same bed as you?!” Chu Yuan looked down at her clothes. Phew, they were still on.

“What’s with that look? Afraid I’d molest you?” Ji Xiran rolled her eyes. “We’ve slept together countless times since we were kids. What’s the big deal? If we were really going to reach the ‘taking off your clothes’ stage, it would have happened long ago, okay?”

With that, Ji Xiran pulled the covers over herself, preparing to go back to sleep.

Chu Yuan felt depressed. The more she thought about it, the less it made sense. She raised a fist and gave the reclining Ji Xiran a punch, complaining, “It’s all your fault!”

Ji Xiran let out a cry of pain from the sudden blow.

“Are you having a fit again?” Ji Xiran glared at her. “If it wasn’t for me last night, nobody would have brought you back. You would’ve been sleeping on the street, you know?”

She had served her so well last night, yet she woke up to a punch. This was pure ingratitude!

Chu Yuan muttered under her breath, “If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have gotten drunk.”

“Fine, it’s all my fault.”

Chu Yuan continued indignantly, “It is all your fault. I remember everything now.”

She was referring to the memory of her wife sending that woman named Qin Man to pick her up, only for her to say those harsh words in the heat of the moment. Although Chu Yuan was spoiled growing up and a bit headstrong, she wasn’t completely impolite. Even when angry, she didn’t usually use foul language.

But yesterday, she had told Qin Man to “get lost.” Even though she did dislike Qin Man a little, that was someone by Sister Yan’s side. If she used such language, her wife would surely find out.

Ugh… drinking really ruins things!

If Qin Man complained, her image as a gentle and obedient wife would be shattered. Maybe her wife would dislike her even more. And the reason she was so angry yesterday was entirely because of Ji Xiran’s “interference.”

The timeline went back to last night. Chu Yuan, drunk, was helped into the passenger seat by Ji Xiran and couldn’t help but call Yan Dai.

Before Chu Yuan could even say a full sentence, Ji Xiran, in the driver’s seat, couldn’t take it anymore. She pulled the car over to a safe spot, snatched Chu Yuan’s phone, and nimbly hung up.

Then, Ji Xiran mimicked her sarcastically. “Eww, ‘I hate you… I hate you…’ Is that the tone of someone who hates someone? You were clearly flirting with Yan Dai!”

Chu Yuan was angry. “Give me back my phone.”

“I already hung up.” Ji Xiran had no intention of giving it back, tossing it into a side compartment where Chu Yuan couldn’t reach.

Chu Yuan was about to blow a fuse. “How could you just hang up my call!” She would never hang up on her wife!

Ji Xiran couldn’t help but roll her eyes again. How was her friend so “love brained” while she was so clear-headed? So, while driving, Ji Xiran began a long, sharp tongued brainwashing session. Usually, she held back a bit, but today she said whatever would sting the most, as if stabbing a knife into Chu Yuan’s heart.

“You’re still calling her ‘Wife’ this and ‘Wife’ that. Why don’t you calculate how many times Yan Dai has contacted you in the half-year she’s been abroad!”

Chu Yuan went silent. Of course, Yan Dai had never proactively contacted her once, it was always Chu Yuan reaching out. Even though she tried hard to control herself, if she didn’t hear Yan Dai’s voice for more than 24 hours, she felt miserable. Yan Dai didn’t look for her, but she couldn’t stop herself from looking for Yan Dai, and the gap never exceeded three days.

Ji Xiran saw right through her: “Not once, right? I have so many casual flings, and I’ve never neglected them once.” She spoke of being a time management master and a social butterfly with pride.

But the point wasn’t that, the point was that even Ji Xiran didn’t neglect casual flings, yet Yan Dai ignored her own wife!

Chu Yuan bit her lip and weakly defended, “She’s just…”

“She’s just too busy?” Ji Xiran didn’t even let her finish. “You’re so silly. How can someone be as love brained as you? How busy could she be that she hasn’t contacted you in half a year? Last year on your birthday, she even forgot what day it was and went MIA.”

Ji Xiran would always remember that day. She was in Japan on a happy date with a certain girlfriend when she suddenly got a call from Chu Yuan, crying that she was spending her birthday alone. Ji Xiran had flown back immediately to accompany her, even buying a seven figure bag to appease the girlfriend she left behind.

After saying this, Ji Xiran talked about her own dating history. Although she mostly sought excitement and novelty, she never mistreated her girlfriends. When Girlfriend A said she liked coffee from a specific corner shop, she bought the shop for her. She remembered every birthday and gave timely gifts. For example, when Girlfriend B complained about the commute, she gave her a helicopter and thoughtfully included a private helipad. Then there was Girlfriend C, who wanted to study penguins in Antarctica. Ji Xiran used family resources to sponsor an entire scientific expedition and film crew to go with her…

And so on. Ji Xiran’s history of romance was endless. She wasn’t just showing off how much money she had, but rather using it as a contrast to Yan Dai.

Chu Yuan was already in a vulnerable, drunken state. Hearing Ji Xiran’s words made her sadder, more heartbroken, and more furious. She felt that her wife, Yan Dai, had no feelings for her at all.

So, Chu Yuan broke down. That’s why she couldn’t control her harsh words when Qin Man came to get her.

Ji Xiran was speechless: “You only know how to blame me.”

“It is your fault.”

“Wake up, child. I analyzed it for you last night. Yan Dai really doesn’t love you. If she doesn’t love you, why blame me? You should break up with her.” Ji Xiran started encouraging a breakup, wishing they would just get divorced on the spot.

Chu Yuan instantly went “emo,” her mind filled with the phrase. Yan Dai doesn’t love you, Yan Dai doesn’t love you…

Even though Chu Yuan clearly looked miserable, Ji Xiran didn’t stop. Instead, she added fuel to the fire: “I called her yesterday and told her we were sleeping in the same bed…”

Hearing this, Chu Yuan couldn’t help but lunged at her. “Are you crazy?!”

“I haven’t finished, why are you reacting like that? Relax,” Ji Xiran said calmly. “Yan Dai had zero reaction when she heard that. She doesn’t care who you slept with last night.”

As soon as she said that, a loud ringing sound went off in Chu Yuan’s head. Her mind went blank for several seconds, leaving only one thought.

She doesn’t care about you at all!

“Waaaaah…” Chu Yuan broke down again, her tears falling uncontrollably. She wiped her eyes while accusing her friend. “I’m going to kill you! You started triggering me first thing in the morning.”

Ji Xiran sighed, grabbed some tissues from the nightstand, and handed them over. She didn’t intend to comfort her, instead, her sharp tongue kept wagging. “What do you mean ‘triggering’? I’m just telling the truth!”

Chu Yuan had no rebuttal, only crying harder.

“I can cross countries to spend a birthday with a girlfriend. Your legitimate wife knows you’re sleeping with another woman back home and she doesn’t say a damn word. It’s been a whole night, if it were me, I would’ve flown back already. What about her? Why hasn’t she come for you?” Ji Xiran huffed, continuing to mock Yan Dai. “Forget flying back, she probably hasn’t even given you a phone call, has she?”

Ji Xiran felt her logic was sound. When a friend breaks up, I set off fireworks, let the sparks fly even harder. It was best for Chu Yuan to wake up quickly and kick that “bad apple” Yan Dai to the curb.
