Chu Yuan had already been tormented all night by Ji Xiran’s triggering words from yesterday. Now, early in the morning before she was even fully awake, the triggering continued.
At this point, she truly couldn’t control herself. Her tears flowed as if someone had accidentally turned on a faucet, once she started crying, there was simply no shutting it off.
Originally, when she made the decision to enter an arranged marriage with Yan Dai, she had braced herself for the fact that Yan Dai had absolutely no emotional foundation with her. However, she had still highly overestimated her own charm and had been far too blindly optimistic about the future development of their feelings.
She thought about how she had been the beloved, universally cherished “darling” archetype growing up, so she believed everyone in the world was bound to fall for someone as wonderful as her.
Even if Yan Dai didn’t have any feelings for her at first, Chu Yuan possessed a certain level of confidence that she could make Yan Dai fall for her through daily interactions. After all, love didn’t just come at first sight; love could grow over time, couldn’t it?
Furthermore, for anyone else to fall in love with a girl as cute and excellent as her should have been an absolute given, an effortless certainty.
So, even though Yan Dai had remained neither hot nor cold toward her during their few years of marriage, causing Chu Yuan to frequently succumb to small moments of insecurity and minor frustrations, she would always brainwash and comfort herself.
One day. There will come a day when her Sister Yan will definitely fall in love with her.
But now, there was no way she could coax herself anymore.
Yan Dai was simply a thousand-year-old block of ice, no matter how much warmth was thrown at her, she couldn’t be melted.
Chu Yuan could no longer continue to deceive herself and live in denial.
Yan Dai just didn’t like her.
The moment Chu Yuan’s “Mary Sue” universally loved persona collided with Yan Dai, it capsized in a ditch and utterly collapsed.
Chu Yuan thought to herself that she was truly a bit too pathetic. The first time in her life she had offered such sincere, passionate feelings, she had to be treated like this.
As it turned out, the world didn’t necessarily revolve around any one person.
But Chu Yuan just couldn’t figure it out, where exactly was she not good enough that Yan Dai disliked her this much?
She wouldn’t even take her if she threw herself at her for free.
Back when she was still in school, she was a certified campus goddess, okay!
The more Chu Yuan reminisced, the more she wanted to cry. In fact, her tears hadn’t stopped from beginning to end. Before long, she had cried her way through half a pack of tissues, using them all to wipe her tears and runny nose.
A pile of crumpled tissues sat on the nightstand, an un-viewable sight, utterly wretched and pathetic.
Not only that, but her eyes were cried red and swollen, and her nose was completely stuffed up. She looked every bit the part of someone completely heartbroken, a poor little thing thoroughly devastated by love.
Ji Xiran truly couldn’t bear to look at her. It wasn’t that she didn’t feel bad seeing her friend this sad and miserable, but on second thought, she figured a short, sharp pain was better than a long, drawn-out agony.
Crying it all out right now and seeing things clearly was far better than holding onto that last shred of illusion regarding Yan Dai and constantly feeling insecure.
Therefore, Ji Xiran had no intention of comforting her. Feeling that her ears were aching from the crying, she threw back the duvet, got out of bed, and ran into the bathroom to seek some peace and quiet.
By the time she finished washing up and came out, Chu Yuan had cried herself out of energy.
Ji Xiran reached out and hauled the girl up from the bed. “Stop being depressed. Come out and play with me. Ruining your heart over a woman like this is fundamentally not worth it!”
Although Ji Xiran had countless dating experiences, she had never known what the bitterness of love actually felt like. Having spent her life squandering and enjoying romance, she naturally couldn’t comprehend why Chu Yuan was so heartbroken right now.
In her view, there are plenty of fish in the sea, why obsess over a single flower?
Life should be about immediate hedonism. Spending all of one’s emotions on someone, even to the point of being tortured to death with a broken heart, was simply being a fool.
If the other person didn’t like you and couldn’t provide any emotional value, then just dump them. It wasn’t as if all the girls in the world had completely died off.
Just like herself, it was impossible for her to ever be devoted to just one woman in this lifetime or to fully sacrifice all her feelings for someone.
There was absolutely zero possibility of that happening.
Having just one “love-brain” like Chu Yuan in this world was already terrifying enough.
Chu Yuan was led into the bathroom by Ji Xiran’s hand. Right now, she looked as though three of her souls and seven of her spirits had vanished, even her steps were floating as she walked.
Ji Xiran shoved the toiletries into Chu Yuan’s hands. “Hurry up and brush your teeth and wash your face. How have you become completely brain-dead right now?”
Do women hurt by love always act like this? It feels like their souls have flown far away. Truly terrifying.
Chu Yuan didn’t say a word. Keeping her head down, she stiffly squeezed toothpaste onto her toothbrush with rigid movements, and then went right back to dazing off.
Ji Xiran let out a sigh, thinking to herself. Beyond saving. This is truly beyond saving.
She grabbed a towel from the rack in the bathroom, dampened it with warm water, and directly slapped it onto Chu Yuan’s face. “You’re truly more of a spoiled princess than I am. Do I even have to help you wash your face?”
The moment the towel covered her face, Chu Yuan didn’t dodge. She merely let out a “Whimper…” and began to cry again.
God only knew what caused Chu Yuan’s emotions to suddenly break down this time, but it was highly probable that it had everything to do with that jerk Yan Dai.
Ji Xiran tossed the towel aside and said with a headache. “What kind of sin did I commit in my past life? Today, I should be accompanying my girlfriend scuba diving, or soaking in a hot spring, hugging and kissing, enjoying the grand moments of life, instead of staying here listening to you cry and rupture my eardrums.”
“I went through a breakup, wah…” Chu Yuan tilted her head back and directly bawled out loud, “I’m already this miserable, and you won’t even let me cry? What do you mean by that, boohoohoo…”
Her wife didn’t like her;
The wife she had liked for three whole years didn’t care about her at all;
She had stayed overnight at another woman’s place last night, yet her wife hadn’t even bothered to make a single phone call to ask about the situation.
If she had heard that Yan Dai slept over at a friend’s place for an entire night, even if nothing happened, she probably wouldn’t have been able to control herself from buying an international flight ticket to rush over immediately.
So… Yan Dai just didn’t care about her, boohoohoo… Even when she slept over with another woman, she couldn’t attract much of Yan Dai’s attention. She was truly, truly, truly too much of a failure, hmph, boohoohoo, ahahaha…
Anyway, she was completely heartbroken now.
No one had ever told her that loving someone could be this painful.
She was truly going to be infuriated to death right now.
Chu Yuan needed to go wild, to vent, to have a good and thorough cry, otherwise, she was truly going to suffocate from bottling it up.
The bathroom was inherently a small space with built-in, invincible echo acoustics. With Chu Yuan bawling at the top of her lungs like this, she directly startled the housekeeper working in the house, who hurriedly rushed over to ask what exactly had happened.
Ji Xiran casually brushed off the worried housekeeper with a few vague words, then turned back to continue coaxing. “Stop crying, my little ancestor.”
Crying this tragically, anyone who didn’t know the truth would think she had done something horrific to Chu Yuan.
Chu Yuan cried while washing up in the bathroom. After finishing, she was completely drained of energy, unable to muster any spirit whatsoever. She went back to Ji Xiran’s bedroom, monopolized Ji Xiran’s bed, and continued to cry.
For a brief moment, Ji Xiran regretted whether she shouldn’t have stabbed Chu Yuan’s heart so ruthlessly and repeatedly yesterday.
But Ji Xiran only regretted it for a mere second.
She felt that what she said wasn’t wrong. Even if she hadn’t said it, Chu Yuan would have figured it out sooner or later.
Ji Xiran stood by the bed. “Why did you suddenly become so decrepit?”
Chu Yuan tugged the duvet, covering her head entirely, temporarily not wishing to communicate with any human being on Earth.
Ji Xiran patted her. “Come out to play with me at Wink Bar.”
Only half of Chu Yuan’s head peeked out from under the blanket, uttering weakly. “Not going.”
“I’m truly done with you. It’s just one woman, can’t you just switch to someone else to like?”
“You know absolute squat!”
“Fine, fine, fine, I know squat.” Ji Xiran quickly raised both hands in surrender. She already knew that given Chu Yuan’s current state, she needed an independent space to slowly digest her emotions, letting her stay quiet alone for a while was for the best.
Thus, Ji Xiran went out to enjoy herself alone first, leaving Chu Yuan at home to digest her emotions by herself.
Anyway, there were so many people watching over the house, there was no need to worry that Chu Yuan would do anything foolish.
