Jensen called the doctor to ask if there was any way to relieve Chloe’s morning sickness.

“This is a natural phenomenon; we do not recommend medical intervention.”

He couldn’t stand seeing Chloe throwing up her guts like this while Caden Sterling and Vivian Sullivan were out there living happily.

“Jensen, I’m going to get some rest.

I have no energy at all.” Chloe went upstairs before she could even drink the palate-cleansing tea Aunt Miller had brewed.

Aunt Miller looked at Jensen nervously, as if waiting for his judgment.

“Aunt Miller, please clear all this away.

Let’s not have any seafood at home for a while, and nothing with a strong fishy smell either.

If Chloe wants to eat something, just make it for her.

Try to accommodate her as much as possible.”

Jensen went upstairs after speaking.

He checked on Chloe and finally felt relieved when he saw she was already fast asleep.

Chloe dreamed of a small snake following her constantly.

She was terrified of snakes, but no matter how hard she tried to shoo it away, it wouldn’t leave.

Gradually, the little snake grew larger and larger, and its pace quickened.

Running out of breath, Chloe tripped and fell.

She thought the snake was going to eat her, but it merely slithered around her, showing no intention of harming her.

“Ah!

A snake!

Ah—!”

When Chloe woke up again, it was already the middle of the night.

Her stomach felt a bit empty, and she suddenly craved instant noodles.

Winona Hayes and Mark Austin had long since gone to bed.

At this hour, Jensen was probably the only one still awake.

Chloe tiptoed downstairs, boiled some water, and dug out a cup of instant noodles.

After pouring in all the seasoning packets, she sat at the dining table, waiting for the noodles to cook.

Suddenly, a whiff of lemon caught her attention.

She opened the fridge—it was likely the meal Aunt Miller had prepared for Zara Miller.

Aunt Miller had marinated some lemon-garlic chicken wings.

Unable to resist, Chloe sneaked two of them.

If her conscience hadn’t stopped her from sneaking more, she definitely would have devoured the entire bowl.

The instant noodles were ready, and Chloe eagerly dug in.

However, after just a couple of bites, she felt nauseous again.

“Baby, Mommy just wants to eat.

Please give me a break.” Chloe rubbed her belly, speaking to her stomach.

Even though she knew the baby couldn’t possibly hear her, she still wanted to do it.

Perhaps it was mostly just to make herself feel a little better.

As if the baby in her womb had heard her plea, it stopped tormenting her.

Chloe managed another two bites before she genuinely couldn’t eat anymore, so she packed everything away.

Tiptoeing back to her room, she slipped under the covers, smelling entirely of instant noodles.

“Chloe, are you awake?

It’s almost eight o’clock.

Are you still going to the office today?”

Aunt Miller was quite anxious.

Jensen had already taken Mark and Winona to the company, leaving only Chloe still asleep.

Remembering that Chloe had promised to help bring Zara her lunch today, Aunt Miller grew worried and came to hurry her along.

Chloe woke up, opened the door, and briefly explained the situation to Aunt Miller.

She quickly freshened up and headed to the company with the lunchbox.

“Chloe, will you be coming back for lunch today?

I’ll make you a hearty soup; your complexion hasn’t been looking too good lately.”

“Aunt Miller, I’ll be back right after a quick trip to the office.

Just make something light for lunch today.” Figuring she didn’t have much of an appetite anyway, Chloe simply asked Aunt Miller to keep it simple.

Aunt Miller nodded and saw Chloe off to her car.

The chauffeur drove Chloe to the office building.

Placing the lunchbox on her desk, Chloe headed straight for the HR department.

“What’s up with Chloe’s expression?

Why does she look so solemn?

Is she heading to the HR department?

Did something happen?”

“Could it be that Amore is suing Austin Corp?

President Hayes got a hard time from the board of directors yesterday, so did she just use Chloe as a scapegoat to smooth things over?”

“How could they use Chloe as a scapegoat?

President Hayes and President Austin dote on her so much, they’d never have the heart to do that.

Haven’t you heard how much they spoil her?

We should probably just worry about ourselves.”

Watching Chloe’s receding figure, Zara Miller was also lost in speculation.

Everyone was saying that Amore had sued Austin Corp.

After all, regarding this plagiarism scandal, as long as there wasn’t ironclad evidence, the rest would depend entirely on how the lawyers argued it.

Chloe went to the HR department and processed her resignation.

She had done the math: her morning sickness would last another half a month to a month, and after that, her figure would start changing.

She might even experience swelling, and all of this would eventually be noticed by everyone.

Once the seeds of suspicion were planted, they would inevitably take root and sprout.

To prevent any of that from happening, Chloe decided it was best to simply leave Austin Corp.

Even though she hadn’t been there for long, the employees had a deep impression of her—if only because she was the only daughter of Winona Hayes and Mark Austin.

Now, the HR department had yet another piece of gossip to spin about her: that her commitment to work was just a passing phase, quitting after only a few days on the job.

The moment Chloe signed her name, the news of her resignation spread throughout the entire company.

The interns in the design department all started discussing the matter, but Zara’s expression wasn’t very pleasant.

“I knew it.

Asking a rich heiress to do such a thankless job?

How could she possibly endure that kind of hardship?”

“What did I say back then?

I bet she’d be gone in less than a month.

I won, so pay up, guys.”

“I thought Chloe was different.

Turns out she’s no different from any other rich kid.”

Zara berated the interns who spent all day slacking off, and they instantly fell silent.

“Do you have nothing better to do?

Every day you’re gossiping about this and that.

If you had actually produced a proper design draft in the first place, Amore’s plagiarism incident could have likely been avoided, instead of you standing around making snide remarks!”

“Even if we submitted our work, Amore wouldn’t have given it a second glance.

What if they specifically wanted to copy Chloe’s design?

After all, what could possibly be good about the work of ordinary interns like us?” an intern muttered defensively, and the others nodded in agreement.

Zara glared furiously at the interns.

Just then, she saw Chloe walking into the design department.

“Chloe, why did you resign?

Is it…”

“I resigned to go traveling.

Too much has been going on lately, so I need to get out and clear my head.” Chloe smiled.

This could be considered laying the groundwork for her future plans, and everyone took her words at face value.

“I knew it!

How could she resign over such a trivial matter?

Turns out she’s planning to travel the world.”

“See?

That’s what you call a true heiress.

When something happens, there’s no rush—just go on a vacation first.

Someone will always be there to clean up the mess for her anyway.

If it were me, I wouldn’t be in a hurry either.”
