It felt as if a gentle spring breeze had lightly brushed by, the delicate and smooth sensation causing Bian You’s heart to melt uncontrollably.

So, this is what it feels like to have your heart flutter.

A glimmer of amusement surfaced in Bian You’s glistening eyes as she raised her hand to gently envelop Qi Zhi’e’s fingers resting against her chin. Soft yet resolute, she said, “I’ll be good.”Full novel: After the Strategy Failed, the Heroine Turned into a Crematorium — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Qi Zhi’e lowered her gaze to look at her, a faint, inscrutable smile playing at the corners of her lips. She gave a slight nod and replied, “Then I’ll be waiting to see.”

Allowing Bian You to draw closer was also part of Qi Zhi’e’s calculations. Though she couldn’t yet discern Bian You’s motives for acting this way, at the very least, she could exploit the situation to elevate her own worth.

Qi Zhi’e’s eyes narrowed slightly, her gaze icy and detached.

She was genuinely looking forward to the day Bian You discovered she had been thoroughly used, what kind of reaction would she have then?

Reluctantly, Bian You released Qi Zhi’e’s hand and instead arranged the dishes on the table, looking at Qi E with hopeful anticipation. “I made all of these. Will you try them and see if they taste good?”

Following her words, Qi Zhi’e glanced at the spread on the table. Had Bian You really prepared all this herself?

With that thought, she didn’t immediately pick up her chopsticks. Instead, she lifted the bowl of soup Bian You had placed beside her.

It was a simple tofu soup, appearing rather plain. A sip confirmed its mild flavor, just the way Qi Zhi’e preferred it.

As Qi Zhi’e sipped the soup, Bian You’s heart gradually tightened, her eyes nervously fixed on Qi Zhi’e’s expression, afraid she might dislike it.

Since she didn’t know Qi Zhi’e’s dietary preferences, she had cooked according to her own usual habits.

“Is it too bland? If it is, I can adjust it next time.”

Qi Zhi’e lifted her gaze to meet Bian You’s, setting the bowl down with a calm, indifferent tone. “No, it’s just right.”

Hearing this, the tension in Bian You’s body instantly dissolved, and she beamed at Qi Zhi’e.

“As long as you like it, I can cook for you whenever I have time.”

Qi Zhi’e picked up her chopsticks in response, offering no comment.

Perhaps because she had mentally adjusted, Qi Zhi’e found the meal surprisingly smooth. Once she felt about seventy percent full, she set her chopsticks down and dabbed her lips with a napkin.

“Your cooking is good.”

“!”

Bian You couldn’t help but brighten at the praise. “I have another gift for you.”

“Oh?” Qi Zhi’e turned to look at her.

“Can you close your eyes for a moment?” Bian You suddenly felt a little shy, her voice tinged with embarrassment.

Qi Zhi’e: “…”

After a brief silence, she complied, closing her eyes to humor this small request.

Even with Qi Zhi’e’s eyes shut, Bian You’s shyness didn’t fade. Though she worried Qi E might find her childish, she didn’t stop herself from retrieving the gift.

She wanted to share all things adorable with Qi Zhi’e.

“Okay, you can open your eyes now,” Bian You said.

Qi Zhi’e slowly opened her eyes, only to find a small yellow object hovering before her. Upon closer inspection…

“…”

Seeing her staring at the object without speaking, Bian You’s cheeks flushed faintly pink. “This is called a Biubiu Chicken. If you encounter someone you don’t like, you can point this at them.”

Qi Zhi’e: “…”

The thing Bian You called a Biubiu Chicken was actually a fluffy little yellow chick plushie, chubby and quite adorable at first glance.

But hadn’t Bian You said to point it at people she disliked? So what did it mean that she was pointing it at herself now?

“Why is it called a Biubiu Chicken?” Qi Zhi’e asked.

“Because it makes biubiu sounds!” As she spoke, Qi Zhi’e saw Bian You gently press one of the chick’s feet. Immediately, the chick’s beak began opening and closing, emitting “biubiu” sounds.

Qi Zhi’e: “…”

Bian You finally seemed to notice Qi Zhi’e’s strange expression and awkwardly withdrew her hand, saying somewhat dejectedly, “Don’t you like it?”

Hearing the unmistakable dejection in her voice, Qi Zhi’e’s eyes flickered slightly. She reached out and took the little yellow chick, turning it over in her hands.

The chick’s fluffy feathers felt smooth to the touch, and it was quite pleasant to hold.

“Biubiubiu.”

Bian You was stunned. Watching the little beak open and close pointed at her, she blinked dazedly at Qi Zhi’e’s relaxed, amused expression, unsure what this meant.

“It’s a nice gift. I’ll take it.” Seeing Bian You’s bewildered look, Qi Zhi’e finally found some amusement in the situation, and even began to view Bian You a bit more favorably.

Seeing her accept the gift, Bian You immediately forgot about Qi Zhi’e’s earlier actions, her eyes sparkling as she asked, “Do you like this kind of thing too?”

At this, Qi Zhi’e’s gaze swept over Bian You from head to toe.

Her slim, tall figure was perfectly suited to the tailored suit she wore. The light gray suit accentuated her frame even more, with pushed-up sleeves revealing smooth forearms, giving her an air of casual elegance.

Yet someone like this secretly enjoyed such childish toys?

A faint smile touched Qi Zhi’e’s lips as she gave an ambiguous response: “It’s alright.”

Bian You’s smile brightened even more, her eyes shining as she said, “I’m glad you like it.”

She had plenty more where that came from and could give her more.

Even after leaving the Qi Corporation, Bian You still felt like she was floating on cloud nine, her steps light as air.

Qi Zhi’e’s attitude toward her today had really softened so much!

She hadn’t rejected her advances!

As she walked, Bian You couldn’t help but laugh to herself. It turned out that shamelessly taking the initiative really could yield unexpected rewards!

Returning to the Bian Corporation, Bian You was still carrying the insulated box. She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but she kept feeling like people were giving her odd, scrutinizing looks.

Though there were also plenty of surprised but friendly glances.

But… what had happened?

Back in her office, Bian You finally realized what was off. It was supposed to be lunch break, so why were so many people still up and about, gathered together and whispering animatedly?

With this in mind, she dialed her assistant Zhou on the intercom and asked him to come in.

Looking at the coffee cup still held in Assistant Zhou’s hands, Bian You fell silent for a moment, wondering if the assistant had just come from some gossip circle.

Before she could speak, Assistant Zhou took two quick steps forward, her curious gaze repeatedly darting to Bian You’s neck. Without needing prompting, she spilled everything like pouring beans from a sack.

“President Bian, there are rumors spreading outside that you’ve been marked by an Omega. Is it true?”

Bian You: “???”

How fast was this information network? Had it even been two hours?

“Where did you hear this?” Bian You frowned, thinking it probably didn’t come from the receptionist at Qi Corporation. The most likely source was that man.

That man was the second son of the Zhou family. Not only was he good-for-nothing, but his family also spoiled him rotten, practically raising him to be completely lawless.

Assistant Zhou shook her head and handed her phone to Bian You. “I saw it in entertainment gossip.”

Bian You nearly laughed in frustration. Should she compliment the man for moving so quickly? He’d actually managed to get her into entertainment gossip.

No wonder people outside were discussing it with such enthusiasm. An Alpha being marked by an Omega especially someone of Bian You’s status was bound to cause a sensation.

In this world, while Alphas and Omegas could mark each other, given Alphas’ arrogant and dominant nature coupled with their genetic predatory instincts, the vast majority would never accept being marked by an Omega.

For centuries, it had always been Alphas marking Omegas. Anyone marked by an Omega would be seen as useless trash, worthless by other Alphas.

They couldn’t accept Omegas challenging their authority.

Bian You shook her head helplessly. If biology allowed mutual marking, was unilateral domination truly fair?

With a light laugh, Bian You admitted frankly, “It’s true. I was marked by an Omega.”

BANG!

“You disgraceful brat!”

The door was flung open violently, revealing Bian Lian’s furious face in the doorway.
