Hearing a familiar voice, Nan Yi turned his head abruptly.
Even though the man had changed his clothes and Nan Yi could only see the alpha’s profile, such a top-tier appearance was impossible for most people to forget after seeing it once. Nan Yi was no different, even though it was just a profile view.
Bai Shanyao was looking down at the watch on his wrist.
He was not interested in the omega in front of Zhang Rui. The omegas who played around with people like Zhang Rui were all looking for something: money, cars, or property. It was all a matter of mutual exploitation. He detested such relationships and felt no sympathy for the omega standing before Zhang Rui.
After a brief moment of shock, Nan Yi grasped at what felt like a life-saving straw and instinctively grabbed the alpha’s raised hand.
Bai Shanyao looked at the slender wrist with disgust and pulled his hand back.
Nan Yi froze.
“Mind your manners,” Bai Shanyao said, looking up at the owner of the arm.
Nan Yi caught the look of disdain in his eyes when he lifted his head, feeling incredibly awkward. He was merely one of many patients Dr. Bai had; the doctor had no obligation to help him.
He hurriedly raised his hands to sign.
“Sorry.”
Bai Shanyao had not expected that the omega Zhang Rui had taken a liking to would be Nan Yi.
“Nan Yi, why are you here?” he asked in surprise.
Zhang Rui asked, “Shanyao, do you know him?”
Bai Shanyao adjusted his glasses and replied calmly, “Yes.”
He then looked at Nan Yi and asked softly, “Do you know them?”
Nan Yi shook his head to indicate he did not. When the man named Zhang Rui moved closer, he subconsciously shifted toward Bai Shanyao.
Confirming that Nan Yi was not voluntarily involved with Zhang Rui, Bai Shanyao naturally took hold of the hand Nan Yi had just placed on his arm.
“Old Zhang, Nan Yi is my friend.”
Feeling the warmth of the alpha’s hand, Nan Yi stared down at their joined hands, stunned.
Zhang Rui, standing before them, stiffened. He forced a smile at Bai Shanyao and said, “We were just joking with your friend.”
It was obvious to everyone that the two were not close, but Bai Shanyao had made it clear that he was not to target Nan Yi. Zhang Rui knew he could not afford to offend the sole heir of the Bai family.
Bai Shanyao looked at the pale Nan Yi beside him, frowned, and said in a deep voice, “He does not like jokes.”
Zhang Rui’s mouth twitched, and he lowered his tone to apologize, “My apologies, Mr. Nan.”
Nan Yi remained standing beside Bai Shanyao, still in a daze.
Getting no response, Zhang Rui felt awkward and spoke to himself, “Then Xiao Xia and I will leave first. They are calling us to go drink.”
Bai Shanyao nodded.
Once the two had left, Bai Shanyao noticed Nan Yi was still staring at their clasped hands. He coughed awkwardly and let go.
As the warmth vanished, Nan Yi returned to his senses and looked up.
“Mr. Nan, were you also invited to attend Elder Yan’s birthday banquet?” Bai Shanyao asked to change the subject.
Nan Yi blinked and nodded. Since he came with He Yushen, he supposed he was invited.
“Right. That was a foolish question to ask,” Bai Shanyao said with a faint smile. Nan Yi was momentarily mesmerized.
As soon as Bai Shanyao looked his way, Nan Yi hurriedly looked away, his cheeks turning slightly red. It was strange; his heart was beating violently, and his body felt hot. Was his heat coming on again?
“Mr. Nan, I have to go now.” Bai Shanyao checked the time on his phone, looking rather urgent.
He turned to leave, but remembering something, he turned back and spoke in a tone one might use to coax a child, “Go find your friends later; do not stand in the corner by yourself.”
Nan Yi nodded, his face flushed. Seeing how well-behaved he was, Bai Shanyao reached out and patted his head, “Good boy.” It was his usual way of coaxing children at the hospital.
Nan Yi lowered his head stiffly, feeling his cheeks growing hotter.
“Mr. Nan, why are you doing that?” Standing in front of the railing on the second floor were three people: He Yushen, Song Jing, and Yan An.
From such a high vantage point, nothing on the first floor could be hidden. The intimate interaction between Nan Yi and Bai Shanyao had been witnessed by all three.
Song Jing pretended to be surprised, leaving his sentence unfinished, but his expression was one of secret delight. Yan An was equally shocked.
Among the three, only He Yushen remained expressionless, looking as if he were observing a stranger, showing no emotional fluctuation.
Song Jing peeked at him. Seeing that He Yushen did not care about Nan Yi’s intimacy with someone else, the smile on Song Jing’s face became more pronounced. It seemed Nan Yi was not a special existence in He Yushen’s heart. If not Nan Yi, there would be someone else; a little mute who could not even speak was even less of a threat. Especially since he was only a low-quality omega.
Nan Yi stared at Bai Shanyao’s back for a long time, even after the figure disappeared outside the door and entered a car, he had not recovered.
He stood there for quite a while before his heart rate finally returned to normal.
After Bai Shanyao had eased the situation, the two alphas did not come to harass Nan Yi again.
Feeling sleepy and wanting to return to the villa, Nan Yi searched for He Yushen several times but could not find him. Eventually, he had to find a place to sit and stare blankly.
Not long after sitting down, he felt the need to use the restroom, so he stood up and headed that way.
Just as he stepped out of the restroom stall, he saw the person he had been looking for all night standing in front of the sinks.
The restroom door was closed.
He Yushen was leaning lazily against the wall by the sink, holding a cigarette between his fingers. He looked at Nan Yi with deep, calm eyes.
Smoke curled from his mouth, briefly obscuring his face like a thin veil.
Nan Yi felt inexplicably nervous. His movements as he approached the sink were hesitant.
The standing alpha scoffed, then tossed his cigarette into the trash can.
Nan Yi paused his hand-washing motion, his body shuddering in fear. He thought to himself that he really did not handle being frightened well.
He Yushen said, “You just got off my bed last night, and today you start seducing other alphas? Wearing such a pure face, I did not expect you to be so thirsty.”
Hearing these unbearable words, Nan Yi stared at He Yushen in disbelief, his eyes wide.
Meeting those cold yet bright, doe-like eyes, He Yushen felt even more irritable.
“What? Playing innocent in front of me again?”
He irritably pinched Nan Yi’s baby-fat cheek and snapped, “If you are so thirsty, then beg me to take you. Can a hollowed-out alpha satisfy you?”
“Are you happy that he touched your head? Did you not pull every trick in the book to replace your brother and marry me in the first place?”
Nan Yi did not know why the person in front of him had suddenly lost his temper. The entire restroom was filled with He Yushen’s oppressive pheromones; Nan Yi felt he could barely breathe.
Looking at those wet eyes, He Yushen continued with disdain, “Nan Zhimin said you were the one who disguised yourself as Nan Zhi back then. Even he was kept in the dark, and now you want to play the innocent?”
“Do you think that because I have marked you, I will not throw you away? You actually dare to seduce someone else right in front of me.”
