The pheromones of two alphas collided in the air, and everyone in the room had a drastic change in expression.
The most severely affected were the two frail omegas, especially Nan Yi, who was a low-quality omega. He could barely stand. Song Jing, who had been standing behind He Yushen, stumbled a few steps, pale-faced, and leaned against He Yushen’s back: “Brother Shen!”
As He Yushen turned back to support the omega behind him, Nan Yi was already drenched in cold sweat, his lips pale. He sat back down on the sofa behind him, half-bent over. He Yushen glanced at Nan Yi, who had collapsed onto the sofa, his brows locked in a deep frown.
The mint pheromones in the air thinned out slightly. Everyone present was tainted with a bit of the rose-scented soothing pheromones, and the two omegas’ complexions became a bit more vibrant. However, such gentle pheromones were still rejected by the others who were also alphas. The alphas blocking Nan Yi had faces that turned pale behind their sunglasses. Nan Yi, at this moment, could not help but wonder why they were wearing sunglasses in the middle of the night.
“Let go of me.”
A gentle, cold voice broke the silence. This time, even the rose-scented soothing pheromones in the air weakened significantly. It was Ling Ran, who was being held by He Zhang, waking up. He looked cold, devoid of his previous kind and gentle expression; there was even hatred in his eyes as he looked at He Zhang.
He Zhang ignored him and spoke to himself, “Why did you not come to me when you returned?”
He Yushen let go of Song Jing and looked coldly at the two who were separated by a row of alphas.
“I said let go of me!”
With a harsh, sharp voice and his chest heaving, Ling Ran was clearly furious. He kept struggling, and even from across the crowd, Nan Yi could see him exerting so much force that the veins on the back of his hands were bulging. Yet, He Zhang only frowned slightly; the person in his arms could not move an inch.
He Yushen asked, “He said let go of him. Are you deaf?”
The atmosphere was tense and ready to snap. Even Song Jing, who usually loved to grab attention, did not dare to breathe loudly. At this moment, He Yushen appeared thoroughly enraged. Nan Yi, sitting not far from him, shivered even while seated.
That wolf-like gaze suggested that in the next second, he might pounce and tear He Zhang apart. It was clear that both He Yushen and his omega father hated He Zhang, who remained frightening even in his pajamas.
He Yushen took a few steps forward, and all the alphas nervously surrounded him.
“Do you want to take him back there? Back to your so-called filthy home?”
“Do you think you are still worthy of letting him step foot in that disgusting place?”
Nan Yi stared blankly at the long, slender hands hanging at his sides that were trembling slightly. The person in front of him was truly resisting He Zhang taking Ling Ran away.
He Zhang only kept a stern face and said in a calm tone, “You can come back to visit if you miss your mother, but do not harbor any delusions of hiding people away.”
Ling Ran: “Let go of me!”
He Zhang continued to carry the struggling Ling Ran toward the door. The person in his arms had turned pale with fear, his pushing hands trembling slightly.
He Yushen: “He Zhang!”
A dozen alphas surrounded He Yushen. The incredibly powerful pheromones of the top-tier alpha exploded outward again, like a sudden rising tide. No one in the room was spared; everyone was submerged, feeling the instinctual desperation of someone about to drown. Nan Yi gripped the corner of the sofa tightly. The alphas beside him changed expressions one after another, but they did not budge an inch. Some could not take it anymore and bent over. Nan Yi, enduring the discomfort, looked up slightly.
The long figure in the distance was a bit blurry, drifting further and further away, with a group of panicked figures behind him. As the figures receded, Nan Yi felt like he finally regained his breath and gasped heavily. Because he was breathing through his open mouth, his throat was stinging. He tried to swallow hard, but it did not get any better. Nan Yi fixed his gaze on the water glass on the table. It was He Yushen’s cup, but he could not care about that anymore.
Song Jing: “How dare you use Brother Shen’s cup!”
The equally weak Song Jing scolded Nan Yi for reaching out. Nan Yi acted as if he had not heard; if he did not moisten his throat, he would be in agony.
After he finished the glass of water, He Yushen, who had chased them to the door, returned. He was alone, walking closer with a stern face. Even Song Jing did not dare to make a sound at this moment. He Yushen grabbed the keys on the table and started toward the door again, but was blocked by the housekeeper.
“Dad? Move aside quickly!”
Song Jing was nervous; at a time like this, no one wanted to provoke an alpha in a rage. Especially when he was just a small housekeeper.
He Yushen gave the housekeeper a cold glance, “Move! I will settle the score with you for secretly reporting me when I return!”
“Young Master, you cannot pursue them. The business between the Madam and the master is something they will solve themselves.”
“The things from back then.”
“I said move!”
The stool under the table was kicked over, making a loud “bang” in the quiet, expansive space. Nan Yi was so startled by the abrupt noise that he shuddered. The housekeeper did not step back, still blocking He Yushen’s path.
“Fine, very well. Starting from today, you are fired.”
Song Jing looked nervous, “Dad!”
He Yushen gritted his teeth, looking coldly at the person in front of him. The housekeeper was the one He Zhang had brought to follow and care for Ling Ran, and after Ling Ran left, he naturally took care of He Yushen. It could be said that He Yushen’s bond with him was even stronger than with his own father, He Zhang. He had never treated him as a servant, but as a respected elder. But today, even the elder he respected had started to betray him. He Yushen did not know what was still genuine.
The housekeeper stood respectfully before He Yushen, not begging. Nan Yi also felt tense for him. But he still said respectfully, “I will leave tomorrow. I will return to the old residence to take care of the Madam’s daily life.”
“Get out now!”
The stool on the side suffered again, kicked far away by He Yushen, hitting the corner of the table, causing a set of exquisite tea sets to shake and fall to the ground. In the midst of the huge commotion, there was the sound of a message notification.
Nan Yi looked suspiciously at the spot where He Yushen had previously sat. A phone screen lit up after receiving a message. Nan Yi was the closest.
“Phone.” He Yushen reached out to him with a frown.
Nan Yi hurriedly grabbed the black phone and handed it to He Yushen. After reading the message, the person with a sour face went upstairs, kicking an overturned chair on his way in dissatisfaction.
Nan Yi caught a glimpse of the top message. It was marked “Dad,” a text saying he was fine and telling He Yushen to set his mind at ease.
Because He Yushen had gone upstairs, only Song Jing, the housekeeper, and Nan Yi were left in the living room. Nan Yi had not yet regained his senses and stood where he was, stunned for a long while.
Song Jing: “Dad, why did you have to provoke Brother Shen at a time like this!”
Song Jing’s reproving voice brought Nan Yi back to reality. Nan Yi hesitated whether to go upstairs. He Yushen was still angry, and he was wondering if He Yushen would take his anger out on him if he went up. Undecided, Nan Yi found that it was not great to go up, but there was nowhere else to go if he did not. He could not just go out and rent a hotel room in the middle of the night.
Nan Yi turned his head and set his sights on the luxurious sofa; it seemed he could sleep there for the night.
