Yun Su spoke in disbelief, “Now?”
“Yes, now.” Tang Zhifan looked serious, clearly not joking.
Of course, Yun Su knew her team leader was not the type to joke around.
But why was this so sudden?
Seeing her confusion, Tang Zhifan hesitated for a moment before finally telling her.
“It’s not because of a mission. It’s about Old Madam Yun, your grandmother… her condition hasn’t been good lately.”
The moment Yun Su heard this, her heart clenched.
She quickly asked, “What happened to my grandmother?”
“She didn’t want me to tell you, but I felt you should know.” Tang Zhifan paused slightly. “Her illness has worsened. She took medication during the day and is still under observation. You should come back as soon as possible.”
Yun Su’s grandmother had always been in poor health for many years, but nothing serious had ever happened before.
For Tang Zhifan to come and inform her personally, the situation was clearly not optimistic.
Without hesitation, she said, “I’ll go back right now.”
Yun Su glanced around before asking, “If I suddenly disappear from the hotel, will that be a problem?”
“It’s fine. After you return, the system will handle everything. Your identity here will be automatically released from this space,” Tang Zhifan replied.
“So… it’s like I never existed in this time and space?”
Yun Su had never looked into this part before. What exactly happened after completing a mission and returning? Would everyone forget her?
Before she could recover from her shock, Tang Zhifan answered.
“Not exactly. It’s just that from now on, in this time and space, no one will be able to find any information about you.”
So that was how it worked.
For a moment, Yun Su didn’t know whether to feel regret or relief.
But she had no time to dwell on it.
After hearing everything, Yun Su quickly found paper and a pen and sat down at the desk.
She didn’t have time to say goodbye to Gu Yan in person, but at the very least, she should leave him something.
After thinking for a moment, she began to write.
【Xiao Yan:
Your sister has something important to do and must go somewhere very, very far away. I don’t have time to say goodbye to you in person, but I believe you are a brave and independent boy. You will be able to take good care of yourself. From now on, live well with your parents.】
With her mind occupied by her grandmother’s condition, Yun Su couldn’t bring herself to write more. She could only leave a few simple words of instruction.
After finishing the letter, she placed it into an envelope.
She then took it downstairs and handed it to the front desk, asking them to send it to the Gu family by courier the next morning.
Once everything was settled, Yun Su returned to her room and activated her bracelet.
After a series of operations, her figure disappeared from the hotel room, as if she had never existed.
After returning, Yun Su went straight to the hospital where her grandmother was staying.
Before she even reached the ward, she saw doctors in the corridor pushing a hospital bed toward the emergency room.
Beside them was her grandfather, Yun Qingsong.
Yun Su’s breath caught.
The person on the bed was her grandmother, now being rushed into emergency care.
Yun Qingsong also noticed Yun Su approaching.
“Xiao Su, why are you back?”
“Grandpa, what happened to Grandma? How did it get this serious? Wasn’t she fine before?” Yun Su’s voice trembled, on the verge of tears.
By then, the doctors had already pushed the bed into the emergency room, and the closing doors separated them from the patient.
Yun Su looked helplessly at Yun Qingsong. They had only been apart for a little over two months, yet he seemed to have aged several years.
His aged voice was heavy. “She was fine last night, but suddenly worsened today. She took medicine during the day, and we thought she would improve. She even told Zhifan not to inform you. Who would have thought…”
Yun Su’s hand trembled as she leaned against the wall, murmuring repeatedly, “She’ll be fine… she’ll definitely be fine…”
With unsteady steps, she walked over and helped Yun Qingsong sit down on a chair.
Sitting beside him, memories of living with her grandparents flooded her mind.
When she was little, she had always been afraid of thunder, especially at night.
Whenever it thundered, her grandmother would hold her in her arms and softly sing rural folk songs to her.
Those gentle melodies mixed with the sound of thunder, and Yun Su would no longer feel afraid.
Later, as she grew older and began to understand more, she often wondered why others had parents while she did not.
But she had grandparents who loved her dearly, so the love she received was no less than anyone else’s.
Yun Su sat outside the emergency room for what felt like a very long time.
Perhaps it wasn’t that long, but to her, time seemed to pass unbearably slowly.
Finally, the doors of the emergency room opened.
A doctor stepped out. “Who is Huang Qiuyue’s family?”
“We are.” Yun Su supported Yun Qingsong as they quickly stepped forward.
“The patient is now out of danger. After a period of observation, she can be transferred back to a regular ward. Just make sure she recovers well afterward.”
Yun Su let out a long breath of relief, the heavy weight in her chest finally lifting.
“Grandpa, it’s okay now,” she said softly.
Yun Qingsong murmured, “It’s good that she’s okay… good that she’s okay…”
Then his body suddenly weakened, and he nearly collapsed.
Yun Su quickly caught him. “Grandpa, are you alright?”
“I’m fine.” Yun Qingsong waved his hand.
Seeing the dark circles under his eyes and the exhaustion on his face, Yun Su knew he must not have rested at all these past two days.
“Grandpa, you should go rest. Don’t let Grandma wake up only to see you collapse,” Yun Su said as she helped him toward the hospital exit. “I’ll stay here and watch over her.”
“When your grandmother wakes up, you must call me,” Yun Qingsong repeatedly reminded her before leaving.
Only after Yun Su reassured him several times did he finally get into the car and leave.
Yun Su returned to the ward.
Although the doctor had said there was no longer any danger, she still didn’t dare relax.
She stayed by the bedside the entire time, not closing her eyes, afraid that her grandmother would wake up and find no one there.
Looking out at the shadows of the trees outside the hospital window, she realized it was already past midnight, and everything was silent.
She thought of Gu Yan, wondering how he would react after receiving the letter.
She had left so suddenly, without giving him any time to prepare.
She had thought she would still have half a month to get ready to leave, to help him accept it calmly.
But now, thinking about it was pointless.
Gu Yan would grow up, and memories would fade with time.
Her mission was complete, and from now on, they would belong to two different worlds.
Yun Su stared out the window, her thoughts drifting—sometimes worrying about her grandmother, sometimes thinking of Gu Yan.
In her drowsiness, she suddenly heard Yun Qingsong call out.
“Xiao Su, why have you been sitting here all night? Aren’t you afraid of catching a cold?” He gently patted her. “Go get some rest.”
Yun Su moved her stiff body, feeling soreness all over.
Only then did she realize she had been sitting there the entire night; it was already morning.
“Grandpa, why are you here so early?” Her voice was hoarse, barely audible.
Yun Qingsong looked at her with concern.
Just as he was about to speak, a voice came from the hospital bed.
“Xiao Su.”
