Mu Xiaoxiao made some noise to lure the zombies over, while Meng Yu took the opportunity to blow their heads apart. The two of them worked together with perfect coordination.
“Brother Zhang, look, there are two women outside killing zombies!” Chen Wen exclaimed.
“Why are you making such a fuss? Women? You must have seen something wrong.”
“Come and take a look, Brother Zhang!”
“Holy crap, what is that woman shooting from her hand?” Zhang Qiang swore in shock.
“I don’t know, but it looks pretty awesome!”
The others also curiously gathered by the window to watch.
The two women outside killed zombies as easily as if they were chopping vegetables.
“Are zombies really that easy to kill? If I’d known, I wouldn’t have run so fast. If one came at me, I’d kill it too,” one young man said indignantly.
“You? Before the zombie even got close, you were the fastest one running away.”
“Brother Zhang, they’ve killed all the zombies outside!” Chen Wen exclaimed.
“Let’s go out and say hello,” Zhang Qiang said.
After killing the zombies, Mu Xiaoxiao and Meng Yu were cleaning their weapons and wiping the stains from their clothes.
“Hey! Hello, beautiful ladies. My name is Zhang Qiang. Thanks for killing the zombies around here. Otherwise, we’d have been too scared to even leave the villa,” Zhang Qiang said with a smile, his acne-scarred face making him look particularly unpleasant.
So creepy, Mu Xiaoxiao thought.
“No need to thank us. We weren’t killing them for your sake,” Meng Yu replied expressionlessly.
“Are you two from this residential area? Which villa do you live in?”
“Sorry, we have things to do, so we’ll be leaving first.”
Mu Xiaoxiao and Meng Yu got into the car and drove toward the main gate.
“Bah! Those two women really don’t know what’s good for them, talking to you like that, Brother Zhang,” Chen Wen said, trying to flatter him.
“Those two women are dressed so cleanly, so they probably aren’t short on food. They even have a car, which means they must have plenty of supplies at home. I just don’t know which villa they live in,” Zhang Qiang said thoughtfully.
“I saw them leave from here, so they’ll definitely have to come back later.”
“I’ll leave it to you to keep watch.”
“Got it, Brother Zhang.”
Mu Xiaoxiao and Meng Yu arrived at the main gate and discovered, unfortunately, that it had been damaged. Several zombies were wandering around nearby.
After dealing with them, they examined the gate.
“We don’t know how to fix this either. If we find someone who knows how, maybe it can still be repaired.”
“For now, we can only push it open and shut by hand. The zombies can probably force it open too,” Mu Xiaoxiao said.
“Forget about it for now. Xiaoxiao, get in the car. Are you ready? We’re setting off.”
It was their first time leaving the residential area, so they were both a little nervous.
“I’m ready.”
They encountered a few scattered zombies along the way and simply drove around them. Before long, they reached the city and parked the car, after which Meng Yu stored it in her space.
Driving through the city would attract too much attention, so she put the car away.
Meng Yu lowered her voice and said, “Xiaoxiao, stay close to me.”
“Okay.”
There were zombie corpses ahead, so someone had probably already passed through the area. Some of the shops along the street had their doors forced open, while others had broken windows.
Meng Yu made a hand gesture, and Mu Xiaoxiao immediately stopped.
“There are two zombies ahead. I’ve used up some of my ability just now, so I’m planning to use my knife this time. Xiaoxiao, keep an eye on our surroundings.”
“Okay, Sister Yu.”
Meng Yu took out an electric baton and struck the zombies with it. The moment they froze, she drew her knife and swung it at one’s neck.
However, the clean decapitation she had imagined did not happen. The blade became lodged in the zombie’s neck, and she had trouble pulling it free.
The other zombie had already recovered and lunged at Meng Yu.
At that moment, Mu Xiaoxiao rushed forward and shocked both zombies again with her electric baton.
Meng Yu kicked one of them away, pulled her knife free, and swung again. This time, the zombie’s head separated from its neck.
Without pausing, Meng Yu kicked the other zombie’s legs out from under it. As it fell, she swung her knife at its neck with all her strength, severing its head. She then struck its head again to make sure it was completely dead.
“Phew, I’m still not very comfortable using this knife. I need more practice. I can’t rely entirely on my ability,” Meng Yu said.
“Yeah. Come on, let’s see what these shops have,” Mu Xiaoxiao said.
Meng Yu and Mu Xiaoxiao began their zero-cost shopping spree. Although many of the shops had already been searched, ordinary people did not have storage spaces like they did and could only carry a limited amount.
The two of them were not completely heartless either. They mainly took things that would be difficult for other survivors to carry or preserve.
Things like rice could still be taken home and cooked for now, but once the water and electricity were cut off, people might only be able to eat dry food to fill their stomachs. Biscuits, canned food, and other items that could be consumed immediately would naturally be the priority for most survivors.
They did not even spare the baby supply stores. Just as they were enthusiastically collecting everything they could, they suddenly heard a sound.
“Shh.”
The two of them quickly hid in a corner of the shop, weapons in hand as they prepared for a fight.
A young man appeared, carrying a baseball bat and wearing a backpack as he strolled toward them.
“Eh? I just saw two beautiful women over here. Where did they go?” Lu Xuan muttered in confusion.
“Don’t move. Who are you, and why are you following us?” Meng Yu suddenly stepped out and held her knife to his neck.
“Easy, beautiful. It’s me. We said hello before, remember? You two were the ones who told me zombies weren’t that hard to kill. I’ve been going out these past few days too. I wasn’t following you on purpose, I just happened to see you and came over to say hello,” Lu Xuan explained, not daring to move.
“Sister Yu, I think it’s really him.” Mu Xiaoxiao studied him carefully before finally recognizing him.
“So, can you put the knife down now? It’s pretty scary,” Lu Xuan said with a playful grin.
Meng Yu put her knife away and asked, “Have you been going out every day?”
“Not yesterday. I was planning to, but a group of people arrived at the main gate with a bunch of zombies chasing them. There were too many, so I got scared and ran back home.”
“Today, I saw that the zombies had been dealt with, so I came out again.”
“You two were the ones who killed them, right? That’s amazing.” Lu Xuan gave them a thumbs-up.
“When we came through here, we saw some zombie corpses. Were you the one who killed them?” Mu Xiaoxiao asked.
“Yep.” Lu Xuan proudly lifted his chin and puffed out his chest.
“You were pretty brutal, though.” Mu Xiaoxiao and Meng Yu remembered the zombie corpses they had seen earlier. Their heads had been smashed into a complete mess, making the sight extremely unpleasant.
“Brutal?” Lu Xuan thought for a moment. “I only have a baseball bat, and you can only kill zombies by attacking their heads. If I didn’t hit them a few extra times, how was I supposed to make sure they were dead? So yeah, the results might have looked a little unpleasant.”
“That makes sense.” Mu Xiaoxiao nodded.
“Since we’ve met before, let me introduce myself properly. My name is Lu Xuan. What about you two?”
“My name is Mu Xiaoxiao.”
“Meng Yu.”
“Are you continuing to collect supplies? How about we go together? One more person means a little more strength,” Lu Xuan suggested with a smile.
“No need. We prefer collecting supplies on our own.”
“Alright then. I’ll get going.” Lu Xuan left regretfully.
He really had wanted to get to know the two of them and sincerely hoped they could become friends. He admired them, after all. Unfortunately, they did not seem interested in talking to him.
After watching him disappear into the distance, Mu Xiaoxiao and Meng Yu continued in the opposite direction.
They cleared out the tobacco and alcohol shops and the clothing stores.
They collected ingredients from milk tea shops and bakeries.
They also emptied the jewelry stores.
Meng Yu stored all the jade jewelry she found, planning to take it home and see whether it could be used to upgrade her space.
