“Something happened on my end, but I’ve already taken care of it. We have plenty of supplies, so stay home and don’t run around. I’ll come find you later so we can meet up,” Gu Jingchuan instructed.

“Alright, Brother Jingchuan, you should be careful too,” Meng Yu said with concern.

“Sister Yu, don’t worry. Senior is so capable, he’ll be fine,” Mu Xiaoxiao teased.Full novel: After Transmigrating Into an Apocalypse Novel and Slacking Off: The Female Lead Turns Out to Be My Best Friend! — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“I wasn’t worried about him!” Meng Yu argued, her face turning slightly red.

Mu Xiaoxiao looked at Meng Yu’s flushed cheeks and shy expression.

Sure, she wasn’t worried. As if anyone would believe that.

“The fog is clearing so quickly. We can see much farther now.”

Mu Xiaoxiao looked out the window.

Several figures were wandering around in the distance. They were difficult to see clearly, but the way they walked was strange.

Meng Yu took out a pair of binoculars and looked through them, her brows immediately furrowing.

“They’re zombies.”

“They must have been out for their morning run. They probably collapsed, then turned into zombies after waking up,” Mu Xiaoxiao said.

She had been living here for a month, and every morning, people would pass by the front of the villa while out jogging.

“That’s probably it. From now on, we should keep our voices down so we don’t attract them.”

Meng Yu put away the binoculars and took two guns out of her space.

“Here, one for each of us. Each gun has seventeen bullets. If you run out, come to me. Unless it’s absolutely necessary, it’s best not to use them because the noise could attract zombies.”

After saying that, she took out two machetes.

“Use these instead.”

“Sister Yu, how do you know so much?” Mu Xiaoxiao asked curiously.

“Ahem. Ever since you told me about the apocalypse, I’ve been imagining all kinds of situations from apocalypse novels,” Meng Yu admitted somewhat embarrassedly.

Mu Xiaoxiao gave her a thumbs up and inwardly exclaimed in admiration.

“Although we don’t know if things will be exactly the same, it’s always better to stay cautious.”

“I’m going to make breakfast. If you want, I can bring you something to read so you can imagine a few scenarios too,” Meng Yu said.

“No need, I already have some. I’m going to watch a few movies instead, so I won’t lose my appetite later.”

“Alright, I want to watch too. It’s better to get used to it in advance.”

The two of them carried their breakfast to the living room, turned on the television, and watched gruesome horror movies while eating.

Whenever Mu Xiaoxiao saw something frightening, she immediately squeezed one eye shut and kept the other barely open.

Meng Yu, on the other hand, watched the entire thing with her eyes open and even finished her meal. Aside from feeling slightly nauseous, she was perfectly fine.

“Sister Yu, you’re amazing. I can’t eat anymore. That was so disgusting.”

Mu Xiaoxiao looked at her with admiration.

“Take it slowly, there’s no need to rush. If you can’t eat anymore, then don’t force yourself.”

Meng Yu comforted her while suppressing her own nausea.

The two of them spent the entire day watching movies to prepare themselves, gradually becoming able to watch them with their eyes open.

That night, Mu Xiaoxiao entered her space to harvest and plant more crops. The chickens and rabbits had both produced offspring, and the space had already reached Level 10. She had 25,000 gold coins and five mu of farmland.

After finishing the harvest, she left the space and went to sleep.

The next morning, she checked the time and found it strange that Meng Yu had not come to wake her.

Mu Xiaoxiao quickly got out of bed, got dressed, and went to Meng Yu’s room. Knocking on the door, she called out, “Sister Yu, are you awake?”

At that moment, Meng Yu had already fallen unconscious. Her body alternated between feeling cold and hot, and she had no awareness of what was happening around her.

Mu Xiaoxiao called out several times, but there was no response. The door was locked from the inside, but fortunately, she had a spare key.

After finding it and opening the door, she saw Meng Yu lying motionless on the bed.

Mu Xiaoxiao’s heart immediately began pounding. She carefully approached the bedside.

“Sister Yu, are you alright?”

There was no response.

Mu Xiaoxiao took a closer look. Sweat covered Meng Yu’s face, and her cheeks were flushed.

Could this be a sign that she was awakening an ability?

Based on the vague plot she knew, this should not have happened so soon. Then again, she had transmigrated into the body of a character in the novel, so the plot was bound to have changed. After all, this was now a real world.

Mu Xiaoxiao brought over a towel and wiped Meng Yu’s sweat, staying by her bedside without leaving even once. Whenever she became hungry, she simply took food from her space.

After an entire morning had passed, Meng Yu finally opened her eyes.

Seeing Mu Xiaoxiao sitting beside the bed and looking at her anxiously, Meng Yu asked, “You’re awake. How do you feel?”

“I’m fine, my head just hurts a little.”

Meng Yu sensed her condition carefully. She had only just awakened and had not fully recovered yet, but her body felt surprisingly light.

“Do you feel anything else, like an ability?”

“An ability?”

Meng Yu concentrated and carefully sensed herself again.

A block of ice suddenly appeared in her hand.

She casually threw it forward, and it struck the wall, leaving a small dent.

Was this the ice type ability described in the novels? It was not bad at all.

“Wow! Sister Yu, that’s amazing!”

Mu Xiaoxiao clapped excitedly.

“Now I have the ability to protect you. Here, take this.”

Meng Yu took a bottle of water out of her space and handed it to Mu Xiaoxiao.

“I drank this yesterday, and today I awakened my ability. Have a cup and see if it works for you. I’ll stay here with you.”

Mu Xiaoxiao knew what the spiritual spring water could do. It could not awaken abilities, but it could detoxify the body, treat illnesses, and strengthen the body. Besides, her own body could certainly use some improvement.

“Thank you, Sister Yu. You only just woke up, so eat something and wash up first. Once you’ve rested, I’ll drink it.”

“Alright.”

Seeing that her body was drenched in sweat and carrying an unpleasant smell, Meng Yu agreed.

After Meng Yu cleaned herself up and ate something, Mu Xiaoxiao poured herself a cup of spiritual spring water.

She did not feel anything immediately after drinking it.

However, after a while, she felt dirty sweat being expelled from her pores, along with a rather unpleasant smell.

“Ugh. Looks like this spiritual spring really can’t give me an ability. Sister Yu, I’m going to take a shower.”

Mu Xiaoxiao had already expected this outcome, so she was not disappointed at all.

“Xiaoxiao, don’t lose heart. Maybe your ability will awaken later.”

Meng Yu tried to comfort her.

After taking a shower, Mu Xiaoxiao felt refreshed from head to toe, as if her entire body had been renewed. She felt light and agile, and both her strength and speed had improved considerably.

Even her skin had become smoother.

She stared at herself in confusion.

Why was she becoming prettier and prettier?

After telling Meng Yu about the changes, Meng Yu sighed.

“At least the spiritual spring water was useful to you in some way. You’re becoming more and more beautiful.”

“Being beautiful isn’t necessarily a good thing in the apocalypse.”

Mu Xiaoxiao pulled a miserable face, although she was secretly happy. After all, who did not want to be beautiful? It would have been much better if there were no apocalypse.

“What, are you afraid someone might have bad intentions toward you? Don’t worry. If one comes, I’ll take care of them.”

As she spoke, Meng Yu activated her ability and shattered the cup on the table.

“Sister Yu, how did you become so skilled so quickly?”

Mu Xiaoxiao felt like crying.

How was someone as useless as her supposed to survive?

“I’ve practiced shooting before, you know that. As long as I practice my aim a little more, it’ll be fine.”

Meng Yu smiled, though she could not help wondering whether Brother Jingchuan had awakened an ability as well.

Gu Jingchuan was not having an easy time either.

Of his ten subordinates, one had turned into a zombie, while four had developed fevers and fallen unconscious. One of them had awakened a strength type ability and possessed tremendous physical power.

The others could only look on enviously.

Fortunately, Gu Jingchuan had also read the novels Meng Yu recommended to him, so he separated the four unconscious people and kept them apart.

According to the novels, someone who developed a fever and fell unconscious might either turn into a zombie or awaken an ability.

There was no other way to know. All they could do was wait.

Gu Jingchuan felt somewhat disappointed because he had not awakened an ability, but his strong mentality quickly allowed him to put those feelings aside.

Even without an ability, he could still kill zombies.

Today, he had already taken his team outside to eliminate the zombies in the surrounding area, helping everyone build up their courage and practice their accuracy.

Following what they had learned from the novels, the zombies’ weak point was their heads. Attacking other parts of the body would not kill them, only destroying the head could do so.
