Fortunately, the zombies were moving extremely slowly at the moment. For a group of people who had received training, dealing with them was as easy as pie.
Mu Xiaoxiao noticed that the zombies outside had disappeared. They had probably been drawn away by something. The fog had completely cleared during the day, and the weather looked perfectly normal. Aside from the complete absence of people, it was almost as if the apocalypse had never happened.
Meng Yu sent Gu Jingchuan a message.
Meng Yu: Brother Jingchuan, are you alright? I awakened an ice type ability.
Gu Jingchuan quickly replied.
Gu Jingchuan: I’m fine, but I didn’t awaken an ability. The zombies outside are moving very slowly right now, so they’re easy to deal with.
Meng Yu sighed in admiration.
Meng Yu: Wow, Brother Jingchuan, you’re amazing. You’ve already killed zombies, but I haven’t even left the house yet. Mainly because we haven’t seen any zombies around here.
Not seeing any zombies did not mean that they were safe. Meng Yu could not stay inside the villa forever. That was not her style. Especially now that she had awakened an ability, she needed to go out, kill zombies, and train herself. Only then would she be able to protect both Xiaoxiao and herself.
Gu Jingchuan understood that Meng Yu was not a delicate flower who needed to be sheltered. He was not by her side now, and he might not always be in the future. It would be a good thing for her to have the ability to protect herself.
Gu Jingchuan: If you get the chance, you can go out and train yourself, but only if you can ensure your own safety.
Meng Yu: That’s what I was thinking too.
After putting down her phone, Meng Yu turned to Mu Xiaoxiao.
“Xiaoxiao, I want to go out and kill zombies.”
Since there were not many zombies around at the moment, it really was a good opportunity to get some experience.
“Alright, I’ll go with you.”
“I can go by myself. You can wait for me at home.”
“No. I can’t stay at home for the rest of my life, and you can’t protect me forever either.”
Mu Xiaoxiao spoke seriously.
“Xiaoxiao, I will protect you for the rest of my life, but you’re right. I can’t always be by your side. In that case, stay close to me when we go out.”
Meng Yu agreed.
After getting ready, the two of them prepared to search around the villa area.
Mu Xiaoxiao placed her weapons inside her backpack, including an electric baton. Having a space was truly convenient because she could take out different weapons whenever she needed them. Although she had a space of her own, this was not the right time to reveal it.
“Xiaoxiao, are you ready?”
“I’m ready.”
“Let’s go.”
After locking the door behind them, the two slowly walked forward.
They continued until they reached the place where they had seen the zombies before.
A villa door ahead of them was standing open, and there were bloodstains inside.
The two exchanged a glance and nodded in silent understanding before quietly approaching.
Meng Yu took out a can and threw it forward, creating a sharp clattering sound.
Soon afterward, they heard footsteps accompanied by strange hissing sounds coming from deep in the throat.
Mu Xiaoxiao took out her electric baton and prepared herself to strike if necessary.
Meng Yu also readied her ability.
Five zombies slowly emerged one after another, their bodies swaying unnaturally as they walked.
Two of them looked especially disgusting. Their bodies were covered in blood, with pieces of flesh hanging from them.
Mu Xiaoxiao suppressed the nausea rising in her throat.
“Sister Yu, there are five zombies.”
They were rather unlucky. It was their first time going out to kill zombies, yet they had encountered so many at once.
“If we can’t handle them, we’ll run. Look how slowly they’re moving.”
As soon as Meng Yu finished speaking, she activated her ability and launched an attack toward the head of the zombie at the front.
Perhaps because she was nervous, she missed.
Seeing this, Mu Xiaoxiao rushed forward and struck with her electric baton. She turned the power to its highest setting and attacked the zombie, causing it to collapse onto the ground.
“Sister Yu, finish it off. It’s not dead yet!”
Meng Yu attacked again, destroying the zombie’s head.
Mu Xiaoxiao used her electric baton to immobilize the remaining zombies, leaving Meng Yu to finish them off with her ice ability.
After all five zombies had been dealt with, Mu Xiaoxiao’s hand was trembling as she held the electric baton.
“Xiaoxiao, are you alright?”
Meng Yu looked at her worriedly.
“You did really well just now. You were very brave.”
“I’m fine, I’m just a little nervous.”
As soon as Mu Xiaoxiao finished speaking, she could no longer hold it in and hurried away to vomit.
Meng Yu had been standing in front of her while killing the zombies, and some of the mess from the fight had splattered onto her clothes. The smell alone was enough to make her sick.
Meng Yu took out some tissues.
“Here, wipe yourself off first.”
Mu Xiaoxiao took the tissues and wiped the stains from her face and body.
“Let’s go inside and see if there’s anything we can take.”
The two searched through the villa for supplies.
There were cigarettes, alcohol, gold, silver, and jewelry. Meng Yu had little interest in those things, so Mu Xiaoxiao quietly stored them away.
They also took the food from the kitchen. There was no such thing as having too many supplies.
Mu Xiaoxiao did not like using things that had belonged to other people, but someone else might need them in the future. She had the means to be picky, but others might not.
After searching through the villa, the two headed home.
Along the way, they saw people peeking out from several other villas to observe what was happening outside.
It was still early in the apocalypse, so most people probably had enough food at home for the time being. Once they eventually ran out of food and could no longer endure their hunger, they would have no choice but to go outside.
By then, no one knew whether the zombies would still be so easy to deal with.
As they passed another villa, a young man stepped outside and called out to them.
“Hey, beauties. I just saw you two killing people.”
Mu Xiaoxiao and Meng Yu stopped and looked back at him.
“So?”
“Hehe, nothing. I know those people can’t really be considered human anymore. I just wanted to ask, are those monsters dangerous?”
Mu Xiaoxiao decided to give him a kind reminder. It would not cost her anything.
“They’re not very dangerous right now. They move as slowly as turtles, but no one knows what they’ll be like in the future. If you don’t have much food left at home, I suggest taking advantage of the fact that the zombies are still slow and easy to deal with, and going out to find some food while you can.”
“So those monsters are called zombies. Alright, thanks for telling me, beautiful.”
“Remember, the zombies’ weakness is the head.”
Mu Xiaoxiao reminded him once more.
After saying that, the two turned around and left without looking back.
“Sister Yu, do you think I was being too nosy?”
Mu Xiaoxiao asked.
“Not at all. I think you did the right thing. We’re all humans, and since we have no grudge against each other, there’s nothing wrong with giving someone a friendly reminder as long as it doesn’t harm us or affect our own interests. People may change after the apocalypse, so just remember one principle, if others don’t provoke us, we won’t provoke them.”
Meng Yu patiently explained.
“Mm, Sister Yu is right.”
Mu Xiaoxiao nodded.
After returning home, Mu Xiaoxiao immediately went to take a shower.
Meng Yu had not gotten much on herself, but she still felt uncomfortable and went to wash up as well.
Long range attacks really were convenient.
After taking a shower, Meng Yu’s voice came from outside Mu Xiaoxiao’s room.
“Xiaoxiao, are you hungry? I’m going to cook something.”
“Sister Yu, I don’t feel like eating right now. I’ll come find you when I’m hungry. I just want to rest for a while.”
Mu Xiaoxiao opened the door and answered.
Thinking that Xiaoxiao must still be feeling uncomfortable after killing zombies for the first time, Meng Yu felt that she should give her time to rest and calm down.
“Alright, but remember to come out and eat when you’re hungry. Don’t force yourself to go without food. I’ll be right here.”
After closing and locking the door, Mu Xiaoxiao entered her space.
She did not want to stay in the apocalyptic world at all. Her space felt far more comfortable.
She took out a cup of coffee and watched as the vegetables in the fields matured. The chirping of the chicks filled the air.
Now this was what life was supposed to feel like.
After selling some vegetables and eggs, her space remained at Level 10, and she now had 30,000 gold coins.
Mu Xiaoxiao bought two sheep and two geese.
She did not particularly like eating goose, but she could sell them to the space in exchange for gold coins. The animals cost her 5,000 gold coins. Animals were expensive, but they provided more experience and could also be sold for higher prices.
She also redecorated the thatched cottage inside her space. She laid out bedding and placed a sofa inside.
From now on, she could sleep in the space at night.
She did not dare sleep outside, and she did not like sharing a bed with anyone else anyway. Living alone was much more comfortable.
