The others resting in the same warehouse all began to salivate when they smelled the aroma of food.

“You guys not only steal territory but also eat alone.”

“That’s just too shameless.”Full novel: After Transmigration, I Became a Babysitter for a Big Shot in the Apocalypse — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“The world’s like this, and you still don’t know to unite?”

Many of them started shifting uncomfortably, unable to resist the scent. Everyone murmured and whispered among themselves, trying to use this as a way to shame the others, hoping they might get a bite or two of the food.

But their little schemes were in vain. Ji Heng was no saint; he ignored their accusations completely.

Cai Yan was even less polite. With a flick of his hand, several ice spears shot out and smashed in front of the loudest of the critics, exploding right in front of them.

“Ah! Ah! Ah!”

Startled by the sudden ice spears, the few people screamed. Some were hit and wailed in pain.

Cai Yan had spent the past two days practicing his supernatural ability whenever he wasn’t driving. Paired with Jiang Lijia, the water-type ability user, his ice-type ability was becoming increasingly smooth.

At the moment, he was researching how to make his ice denser and more powerful in shape.

The ice spear had just gradually taken form while he was fighting zombies earlier today.

His plan for the future was to trap zombies first and then pierce them with a spear. This was the perfect time to test its strength.

“Hmm… still a bit lacking.”

Cai Yan noted that the people he hit only suffered minor injuries and no serious damage.

Considering the zombies’ hard skulls, he needed to increase the speed of his strikes, and perhaps make the spear a bit sharper.

He adjusted the motions of his hands while continuing to focus on developing his supernatural ability.

Brother Wang nearly vomited at the sight.

Alright, another ice-type ability. Then he saw the water-type ability replenishing everyone’s water, and the fire-type ability thoughtfully keeping things warm.

Could this group all be ability users? That was insane.

Suddenly, he felt his own supernatural ability was worthless by comparison.

Looking at the person who hadn’t acted yet—the one everyone called Boss, who also had a child and a partner—Brother Wang’s mind instantly imagined how strong that person must be.

He realized he had been foolish to provoke them, causing the current situation.

Some of the other onlookers also noticed something unusual.

One couple exchanged glances. The man looked at the child his wife was holding, who was now becoming a bit confused from a high fever.

He saw Tian Le could pull things from his spatial storage. Maybe there were medicines inside.

The night before, he had asked Brother Wang for help. But with so many zombies nearby, who would risk fetching medicine for a child?

The three ability users in the group were the most capable, but Brother Wang had refused without a second thought.

“Being sick is normal. It’ll pass in a couple of days.”

The man had originally planned to go himself. But if he went alone, he might not even find the medicine before being bitten by zombies.

This left just the sick child and his wife—how could they survive?

He clenched a charm he always carried. His family had lived here for generations. He and his wife ran a farmhouse restaurant, and business was decent.

Behind the restaurant were ancestral lands, including a large cellar. The key he carried could open the cellar, and more importantly, he knew the way.

The cellar was stocked with supplies. Since it was just after the New Year before the apocalypse, they had hoarded chickens, sheep, and other resources.

If they could follow a team like this, perhaps they would be much safer in the future, not constantly terrified like they were now.

But the immediate priority was saving the child. The fever was worsening, and any further delay could be life-threatening.

This was the couple’s first child. Normally obedient and cute, the child had been so scared of the changed world that he hadn’t even complained while being sick.

It was still the middle of the night. Only when the child whimpered did they realize how bad it was.

The man gritted his teeth, patted his wife’s hand, and exchanged a look with her. He whispered, “I’ll try. Don’t worry.”

Although pale, the wife nodded. She knew that even if the chances were slim, her husband would try.

They had already planned that if no one helped by the afternoon, they would go find the medicine themselves.

“Hello.” The man slowly approached where Ji Heng was.

Ji Tianyi watched him curiously. Ji Heng, sensing no hostility from the man, did not stop the child’s curiosity.

He looked up at the man, signaling that he could speak.

The man clenched his fist slightly, somewhat hesitant. “My name is Xia Longhui. I run a farmhouse restaurant here. Do you have medicine? I’d like to trade.”

“Trade with what?”

Hearing this, Xia Longhui’s heart filled with hope. The other party hadn’t said no—they were asking what he could offer.

He quickly took out the key he carried. “This is the key to my family’s cellar. There are supplies inside.”

Ji Tianyi saw this Uncle pull out an antique-looking key. Curious, he leaned forward and reached out with his little chubby hand.

“Dad, I want this.”

“Sit down.” Ji Heng patted him on the rear.

Ji Tianyi pouted, turning to Tian Le with a pleading look. “Daddy, I want to play with it.”

Tian Le’s heart softened at the sight. Slightly disapproving, he said to Ji Heng, “Don’t keep patting him. You might hurt him.”

He scooped Ji Tianyi into his arms as he spoke.

“He’s tough,” Ji Heng said, nodding at Xia Longhui. “Give it to him.”

“Okay… then the medicine.” Xia Longhui handed the key to the child, watching Ji Heng expectantly.

He was also stunned inwardly—so these two were a pair.

“Bring the sick person over.”

Without hesitation, Xia Longhui turned to his wife and gestured to her.

Lin Meng, who had been observing, quickly picked up the child and approached.

Many of the resting onlookers noticed the family’s movement and watched curiously.

They knew this couple had begged Brother Wang for medicine yesterday. Now, Xia Longhui still hadn’t given up.

Talk of a cellar? Every family had one, but you needed the courage to go fetch it.

Previously, some had tried to get supplies, but half became zombies. After that, they preferred hunger over venturing outside.

“Husband.”

Lin Meng held the child close to Xia Longhui. Ji Heng glanced over; although the couple looked pale and exhausted, everything seemed normal. The sick one was the child in the woman’s arms.
