“Uhm…” “Answer me, I don’t like mumbling!” Elder Luna Gloria Westwood was an inpatient woman, Avielle knew if she didn’t give her an instant reply, it would be trouble.
“I will be working on that night elder Luna.” Avielle bowed wondering what the woman’s purpose was stopping her and questioning her now, in the past Avielle had attracted the woman’s displeasure several times and very barely escaped punishment everytime.
“Of course you’ll be working, by my side.” The woman said beginning to walk past Avielle who instantly followed her.
“Ingrid Hudson thinks she can wow me with her exotic cat shifter maids, those deviously beautiful creatures.
Does she think she’s the only one who can show off beautiful maids, I have quite a few too.
You will join my entourage that night.” Avielle recognized the name Ingrid Hudson to be South Rivers pack’s elder Luna.
The woman famously known for being extremely stylish, something Elder Luna Gloria desperately wanted to match up to and even surpass.
“Uhm…elder Luna, I work with the kitchens and madam Helen is going to need my assistance with all the cooking that night, we’re short staffed so there won’t be enough workers for the day.” The older woman suddenly stopped, “So what?
I run this palace and I give the orders here, Helen can handle the cooking on her own, but you will be my…” She stopped talking when her eyes landed on Avielle’s stomach, rounded beneath the baggy dress she wore to conceal it.
“You…since when have you been pregnant?” “I was always pregnant elder Luna.” Avielle replied politely.
But I doubt you’d ever noticed because I was just a servant.
“I can’t show off a pregnant girl by my side now can I?” She huffed frustratedly.
“Go on, I don’t want to see you anymore, I’ll find others to fill in next time.” She dismissed as though she were shooing off a fly.
“Thank you, elder Luna.” Avielle bowed before walking past her, relieved she wouldn’t be forced to attend the party that night.
Though she knew for sure that Obsidian pack wouldn’t be invited, so many other pack rulers she might have interacted with before would definitely be there and this time she might not be able to hide from them all.
Sh returned to the kitchen, putting back the tray and grabbing a cleaning cloth when her phone vibrated in the pocket of her dress.
“Madam Helen, could I go outside to take this call, it’s kinda urgent.” The sour faced woman immediately grumbled, “No calls during work hours.
I’m making miss Tania’s lunch already, you have to take it to her yourself.” “Please madam Helen, this won’t take long, I’ll only be a minute.” Avielle pleaded and the woman frowned.
“Alright alright, now quit buzzing my my ears like a fly, and I want you back here in the next five minutes got it?” Avielle beamed, “Thank you, madam Helen.” Avielle made her way outside to the mansion gardens which was usually quiet and empty during this time of day before finally picking up the mysterious number calling her on the last ring.
“Hello?” “Avie, how are you?” Nelly’s voice came brightly from the other end.
“God, I’ve missed you, this pack is just not the same without you here, I swear.” Avielle smiled hearing her friend’s voice, it always made her happy whenever she got a call from Nelly.
Though she never called herself because she was scared someone else would pick up.
“I’m doing well Nelly, this pack is so peaceful and very scenic too, I wish you could visit often, there’s so many places I want to show you here.” “I know, I want to visit too, but we’ve got a problem.” Avielle could already hear the downer in her tone.
“What is it, are you okay?” “No, I’m fine, it’s just…
Kyrian came to my place asking about you.
He got the info from your doctor about your pregnancy.” “What?” Panic immediately filtered into Avielle upon hearing that and she subconsciously placed a hand on her belly, her heart racing.
“Calm down Avie, you know the doctor says you shouldn’t get stressed out, even a little bit.
I already handled the situation, I told him you lost the pups in a miscarriage.” Avielle’s eyes widened, “You told him that?
How did he react?” Avielle didn’t know why she was curious about the way he reacted to knowing of her pregnancy and that she lost it.
Would it hurt him or would he not give a fuck about it since he had Claire anyway?
“He looked shaken, Avie, and let me just tell you I absolutely enjoyed seeing that look on his face, I saw worse in your eyes when he rejected you so serves him right.” Avielle was quiet for a moment, she wanted to be relieved that he’d been thrown off that idea of her pregnancy but she just wasn’t.
She was suddenly begining to have a bad feeling that he might put out a search for her.
“Rick didn’t seem to believe me when I said you lost the baby though, he keeps coming back here to question me on your whereabouts.” “Rick has always been so perceptive, if he doubts what you said he’ll try to find out the truth.” Avielle knew how determined her husband’s beta could be.
If anything would hurt Kyrian, Rick would get it out of the way before it touched him.
If the idea of losing the pups was affecting Kyrian, Rick wouldn’t stop until he figured out the whole truth.
“Don’t worry Avie, as much as I hate him and that jerk face of his, I’ll talk to him and get him to back off the witch hunt he’s doing on you.” Avielle smiled teasingly, “Don’t tell me you’re still nursing that old time crush on Rick?” “What?
No way!
He’s a jerk, and as big of an asshole as your ex husband.
If your best friend’s ex husband is a douchebag never make the mistake of liking his friends.” Avielle sighed, “Don’t go getting traumatized to date because of me Nelly.” “Of course not…The Grand Luna and Alpha just returned, I know how much they adore you so Claire suddenly taking your place is going to cause big drama…” They had a short conversation, chatting and catching up, until Avielle felt a sudden presence behind her and stopped talking, the hairs on the back of her neck rising.
“I’ll call you back later Nelly.” Avielle said quickly and hung up the call, hoping the person she could feel behind her hadn’t been listening in on her conversation.
With werewolves sharp hearing, they might have heard everything.
She took in a deep breath then whirled around and the footsteps halted.
“Alpha!” She muttered, startled.
“Ava, I was looking for you.” There was a smile on his handsome face, his chocolate brown eyes glittering with warmth.
Dusty blonde hair cut stylishly to frame the hard lines of his face.
“Is there anything you need, Alpha?” “Remember when I promised I’d give you a tour of the pack, I’m quite free right now.” The man beamed at her.
She was bit taken aback because alpha’s didn’t usually give tours to just anyone, she had taken his words to be just polite courtesy.
“Actually, my aunt and I went on the tour bus yesterday so we already saw…” Avielle trailed off awkwardly.
“Oh, I guess that frees up my whole afternoon then.
How did you like the tour, is Raven pack to your liking?” “Oh, of course Alpha, every part of Raven pack is beautiful.
I get overwhelmed sometimes.” He nodded smilingly, “I’m very glad to hear that.” Avielle bit her lips as an awkward silence took over the moment, Alpha Zaden Westwood staring at her as if he were studying her.
“You know, Ava, if I didn’t know any better I’d think you were an elite.
Usually, when omegas are in my presence they can hardly look in my eyes like you’re doing right now.” Avielle gasped, realizing she had indeed been maintaining eye contact with the alpha.
“I’m so sorry alpha, I didn’t mean any disrespect.” She lowered her gaze.
“Not at all, it’s refreshing.
I like that you don’t lower your head or fawn around me.
Walk with me?” Her mouth parted then closed, she swallowed the protest and nodded walking alongside the alpha quietly.
“Will you be attending the ball next week?” The alpha asked.
“I will be very preoccupied in the kitchens alpha.” She politely replied.
This wasn’t the first time the alpha was chatting her up as if he intended to make friends with her.
She didn’t understand why he would want to get close to a pregnant single mother though.
“I wasn’t asking you to attend as a kitchen staff Ava, more like…my date.” Avielle suddenly stopped walking causing him to stop as well.
She blinked the slight shock away before she found her voice, “I don’t think that’s appropriate, I’m just a kitchen maid.” “You’re no kitchen maid Ava.” He said seriously making Avielle’s eyes widen in fear.
Did he…
already know who she was?
