“Kieran!” Avielle heard a woman call from behind her and the tray she was carrying fell from her hand.
The sound of glass shattering filled the hall.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Madam Helen, the staff supervisor of Raven pack alpha’s palace yelled, looking at the broken glass shards next to Avielle’s feet.
“It wasn’t enough that I was forced to hire a heavily pregnant woman into the alpha’s mansion because we were short staffed, you go on to clumsily break expensive stuff.” Avielle could barely hear what the woman was complaining about.
The name continuously rang in her head as a little boy ran down the hall while an older woman ran after him.
“Kieran, stop being a brat, get back here!” She was suddenly awakened to reality.
Kieran, not Kyrian…it wasn’t him.
It couldn’t possibly be him.
“Are you even listening to me Ava?” Madam Helen called again making her jolt.
Avielle suddenly realized what she’d broken and gasped, “I’m so sorry madam Helen, it was an accident.” The older woman rolled her eyes, “Of course it’s always an accident, I swear to the goddess if it wasn’t for the grand ball coming up, I would have already fired you.
But we need as much staff as we can and I can’t imagine how we aren’t getting much applications.” Avielle slowly bent down, picking up the glass pieces onto the tray, smiling secretly.
No one was applying to the job obviously because of how strict madam Helen was.
The woman’s voice was enough to scare the living daylights out of anyone, she always spoke with this authoritative loud screech that irritated the eardrums.
When Avielle was done packing up the glass, she swept and cleaned the spot then prepared a new set of glasses.
“I’ll just take the drinks downstairs.” She informed madam Helen before going along.
As usual, the minute she came out of the kitchen, all the other staff looked in her direction curiously.
“She’s that new maid from the kitchens right?” “Yeah, I heard her name is Ava.” “Isn’t she too beautiful to be a maid?” Beautiful?
Avielle subconsciously felt the urge to touch the left side of her face where her scar had been.
She was suddenly reminded that the scar had gone.
It had been five months now…five months since she left Obsidian pack.
Nelly had visited to perform the spell that healed her scar, even till the last moment Avielle had never believed her scar would be gone completely until she’d looked into the mirror that morning to a clean face.
She had teared up in disbelief.
Her scar had been a symbol of pain and agony, it was gone now, leaving fresh and supple skin that seemed to signify a new beginning for Avielle.
“I’m sure many elite males in the Raven pack would instantly take her in as a chosen.
If I had a face like that, I definitely wouldn’t waste it working and cleaning scrubs when I could have a life of luxury.” “Haven’t you noticed, she’s pregnant?” The voice of the maids carried over even though Avielle had already turned a corner.
So much for gossiping when they thought she couldn’t hear them but she could hear every word.
The spell Nelly performed on her hadn’t only healed her scar but her wolf as well.
She could feel Elsie’s presence within her much stronger now than before, which improved her hearing a lot as well.
Aunt Sarah had created fake IDs for them three months ago and they used those to gain entrance into Raven pack.
The alpha had accepted them into the pack after aunt Sarah created a pitiful story of how Avielle’s mate had rejected and kicked her out leaving them with nowhere to go, never disclosing the fact that she was the Luna of one of his greatest enemies.
Kyrian and the alpha of Raven pack had been long time enemies and rivals, but an enemy pack was the safest place Avielle could think of going in this situation.
Raven pack was very isolated with close ties to the Sovereign pack, and Obsidian pack would never have a reason to come here, so her identity would be safe for now.
Avielle just wanted a safe place she could give birth to her babies and lead a peaceful life, especially when she hadn’t yet figured out who had been targeting and secretly poisoning her with wolfsbane.
The Alpha of Raven pack was a kind man with a very good reputation, but she always feared what he would do if he ever came to know who she was, but she doubted that he would look into her enough to discover that the name on her ID Ava Grace Triton was fake.
Not entirely though, she had taken her late mother’s own name, nevertheless if he came to know, she would be executed for being a spy.
Avielle lived knowing she was walking on eggshells, but she had no other option.
Avielle and Aunt Sarah decided to find normal jobs to not be suspected of any weirdness even though Avielle was qualified for a higher type of job, she learned to make do.
She was very excited to see her babies though, it was what kept her going everyday.
She had bought so many cute things for them, but decided to leave their genders as a surprise.
She could say that she was happy with this simple life on the days she wasn’t feeling that intense heartbreaking pain that seemed like it came from the bottom of her soul, a side effect of a mate’s rejection she would have to live with for goddess knows how long.
It was akin to constantly being depressed.
But working a demanding job didn’t leave her enough time to be sad so that was a plus for her.
Avielle sighed and knocked on the door to the alpha’s office, someone responded for her to come in and she pushed the door open using the side of her body as she balanced the tray.
The large office space was crowded with several men in black suits, Avielle kept her head down as she served the drinks.
She sighted a familiar face among the crowd and hid herself away expertly so that person wouldn’t see her.
Alpha Dane of Ten mountains pack, she had seen him once at a meeting back in Obsidian pack.
This wasn’t the first time Avielle almost stumbled into someone who knew her as Obsidian Luna but she always managed to escape recognition, and once again she did.
Slipping out of the office without being noticed, she smiled to herself.
“Hey, you there!” Someone called behind her.
Avielle knew the voice, she sighed wearily.
“I’m talking to you servant, can’t you hear me?” The woman’s voice grew louder.
“Yes, elder Luna?” Avielle put a bright smile on her face and turned around.
The woman looked to be in her early forties, with strict features and an aloof lift of her chin.
She scanned Avielle face and scoffed, “You are quite beautiful.
What are you doing on the night of the grand ball?” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Blackangel005 I’m sorry for the inconsistent updates on this book, we’re currently going through the contract process and all of that.
