The next morning dawned with a dark gloominess, much like the darkness and gloom in her heart.

Kyrian hadn’t slept in the mansion last night, she’d heard the front door slam and instantly knew he was going to Claire.

She stared at the divorce files next to her on the bed, ten million dollars stated as alimony, it wasn’t a small amount.Full novel: Alpha’s Regret: Rise Of The Ugly Luna — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Kyrian really wanted her gone so desperately, buying off his freedom with a huge sum of money.

A sudden fury within caused her to toss the file away, halfway across the room.

She didn’t need his money, no sum could ever make up for the kind of pain he’d caused her last night.

Her wolf Elsie had gone completely still she couldn’t even feel her anymore, it was as if the pain had swallowed her into a void.

Avielle pushed herself out of bed, catching her own reflection in the vanity mirror.

Pale smooth skin on one side of her face, and a scarred uneven skin on the other.

A unique natural shade of lilac tresses falling messily down her shoulders, one time she’d wanted to dye her hair black, carrying the weight of always being bullied for her strange hair along with her scar but Kyrian had stopped her telling her she had the most beautiful hair he’d ever seen.

It was the first time anyone had ever told her something about her was beautiful.

Knowing that he loved it washed away all the negative comments she’d ever gotten about her hair and she started to love it too.

Her lips were pink and full, and her eyes a deep cobalt blue color.

Claire had been the tender, innocent beauty of the Watson home, as for Avielle’s scars, they had been punishments that never healed because she hadn’t gotten her wolf early in life, when she finally did, her wolf was too weak to heal the deep scar tissues.

Avielle had been the daughter of an alpha, she had been raised like a princess until tragedy befell and her parents were killed.

Her father’s brother and his family moved in then with their daughter Claire and her whole life had changed…more like been ruined, she was whipped for every mistake, whips that somehow ended up landing on her face, she would be locked up after with no medical attention.

She snapped out of the extremely bitter past memories, walking over to pick up the divorce papers she’d tossed away, placing a hand on her stomach she calmed herself.

Having such chaotic emotions wasn’t good for her child.

She refused to sit here and cry over him, she refused to show him how much he’d broken her.

Her fingers tightened around the hateful divorce papers determinedly, she got herself ready for the day and headed out.

“How was your anniversary celebration last night Luna?” Daisy spotted her and came to ask excitedly.

Avielle didn’t say anything, but Daisy glanced behind her into the dining where the flower arch was still there along with the set table with untouched food.

“Are you okay Luna?” Daisy’s voice softened, staring at her with sympathy.

Avielle forced a composed smile, “I’m fine.” Daisy wanted to say something, she looked extremely worried about how empty the Luna’s eyes looked this morning but she kept it to herself instead saying, “A call came in for you earlier, from Lake View clinic, said she’s your gynecologist and she needs to urgently speak with you.” Avielle hurriedly whipped out her phone and dialled the hospital while proceeding outside.

She asked to be put onto Karen, her gynecologist and immediately the call connected she heard the doctor’s worried voice.

“Hello Mrs Dustwood, I’m sorry to bother you so early.

Your test results are out and some things aren’t looking too great…” “What’s wrong?

Is my baby okay?” “Don’t worry Mrs Dustwood, I’ll do a double check to be sure.

Can you make it to the hospital anytime soon?” “Okay.” Avielle hung up the call, fear settling in the pit of her stomach.

She quickly hurried to leave, asking James to drive her to the hospital.

She’d forgotten to wear a jacket, the cold weather immediately seeped through her skin as she stepped out of the car outside lake view clinic but warmth suddenly engulfed her from behind, for a moment her mind conjured up the image of Kyrian covering her up lovingly with his jacket until she looked up to find James.

“It’s very cold out today Luna.” “Thank you, James.” She was glad to finally be inside the hospital because it instantly became warm, the smell of disinfectant heavily strong in the air.

She went back to doctor Karen’s office and the latter welcomed her warmly with the respect given to a Luna, it wouldn’t last for much longer.

“Is everything alright with my pregnancy doctor?” “Not exactly Luna, there’s nothing wrong with your pregnancy but…” Avielle watched her expectantly feeling dreadful at the but, “But?” “From these tests, we’ve noticed a decline between yourself and your wolf.” Avielle stiffened.

There was indeed a strange but gradual disconnect between herself and her wolf, it had started two years ago.

For some reason, her wolf had suddenly become very distant to her and much more quiet, she spoke less frequently, now her wolf was completely silent.

Doctors had told her it was sometimes normal for a wolf to just decide to become a silent spirit in a werewolf’s consciousness.

“Yes, I lost connection with Elsie about two years ago, but my doctor said it was normal.” Doctor Karen Richards shrugged, “In some cases yes that is a completely normal phenomenon, but in your case we’ve seen signs of mental weakness, I’ll need further tests but our labs previously came out with tiny amounts of advanced wolfsbane In your system.” “Wolfsbane?” Avielle gasped, color draining from her face.

“It’s a heavy amount, probably doses taken very gradually which further hid it’s symptoms.

Advanced wolfsbane is very dangerous, and after looking at your reports, your body is extremely weak to carry a pregnancy full term, especially a twin pregnancy.” “Twin pregnancy?” “Yes Luna, you’re carrying twins.” Avielle’s eyes misted over and tears gathered.

She wasn’t just carrying one baby, she was carrying two.

Doctor Richards sported a very critical look on her face.

“Mrs Dustwood, this pregnancy is very dangerous for you, it might end up leading to further complications or even death, the only other option you have is an abortion.” “You’re asking me to kill my children even before they’re born?” Doctor Richards sighed gravely, “I know this is very emotional for you, but you have to think about your own safety.

As it is you already have very high chances of a miscarriage.” Avielle’s tears streamed down her face.

She touched her stomach tenderly, something that was easily becoming a habit already, her heart ached tightly.

Doctor Richards’ gaze followed her hand and a look of sympathy crossed her face.

“I know these children will be heirs to this pack, but things won’t be the same if the pack loses its Luna instead.

Please take a few days to think about it, we’ll carry on with the abortion process then.” Avielle’s mind continued to churn tumultuously, she dismissed James after leaving the hospital and decided to walk home, even though James continued to dissuade her from doing so In the cold.

She just couldn’t bear the thought of losing her children.

Already shaking her head, she knew she couldn’t do it.

She would never hurt her children.

The chaos in her mind triggered a memory and Kyrian’s voice rang in her head, the image of it replaying like an old movie.

“But childbirth is the second most painful experience in the world, I never want you to go through such pain.” He said, gazing at her tenderly after expressing the fact that he had always wanted to have many kids.

That night they had made love for the very first time after two years of marriage.

Kyrian had returned home drunk and he had ravished her the moment he set eyes on her.

She had been afraid it was a drunken mistake but he had hugged her the following morning and they had talked about so many things.

“I still want to have our child someday, I can handle the pain if you’re there with me.

Besides, you love children and I do too.” “No, Elle, not at the price of your suffering.” He adamantly refused and at the time, she had wondered how he would shove back his dreams of having his own family someday just because he didn’t want her getting hurt.

“But…” “No more buts, Sweetheart.

I used to want kids, but I won’t hurt you to get them.” “What if I’m already pregnant?” She chipped, not willing to give up.

He laughed knowing she couldn’t possibly be pregnant already but then went along with her joke.

“Then better hope the little rascal…” He said pulling her closer by the waist and nibbling her ear, “…or little princess has hair like yours and eyes like yours otherwise they’ll have to answer to me for putting my wife in pain.” The sound of her own laughter in the past merged with the loud honking of a car which jolted her making her realize she had strayed away from the pedestrian side of the road.

She had been looking forward to having a family with him, and he had cared for her, she knew he had.

If she didn’t have this scar all along, would he have fallen in love with her and accepted her as his mate?

Would everything have been different?

Though she knew he no longer wanted her now, shouldn’t she at least try to hold onto him for their children?

Maybe he’d change his mind if he came to know that they were going to have two beautiful children.

Maybe he would reconsider the divorce, as the father he had every right to know about his children.

A flicker of hope lit up in her heart as she changed her route, heading to the Obsidian Tower.

Kyrian would be working in his office at this time.

The Obsidian Tower sat somewhere in the middle of the city as a gigantic building made of glass, it was the one place that handled every pack matters.

Avielle pressed the button for the thirteenth floor after stepping into the elevator.

The whole floor was dead silent, Avielle knew it was because no one was allowed up here except for Obsidian’s highly ranked pack members.

Taking a minute to prepare herself and gather her courage knowing that he might turn her away or worse, have her thrown out but she stopped in her tracks the moment she spotted Claire through a crack in his office door sitting right on Kyrian’s lap behind his desk, she leaned on his chest with her eyes closed peacefully a pair of walking crutches kept by the side.

Those crutches…were they Claire’s?

What happened to her legs?

She remembered Kyrian blaming her for it, but she genuinely had no clue where Claire had been for the past three years.

Claire was a sweet, tender beauty, taller, and much slimmer, with beautiful ebony hair and light blue eyes, she was the perfect angelic doll anyone would be fooled by.

Avielle couldn’t help but look at her own purple hair falling down her shoulders, out of place, weird, and different.

She touched the left side of her face, feeling the uneven skin that made her hideous.

“Are you sure you didn’t fall in love with her?” Claire’s voice made Avielle look up sharply.

Anger slowly curled up her spine!

She was still his wife, yet to sign the divorce papers, he had no right to be here with his other woman!

Just as she was about to storm into the office, Kyrian’s voice froze her in spot.

“I don’t feel anything for her.” Avielle’s heart stopped.

“So you’re saying even after spending three years with her, you didn’t develope any feelings for her?” Avielle’s body stilled, the hope burning so sharply within her she held onto the wall for support.

“No, I should have rejected her the very day I found out she was my mate.” Came his cold rejection which completely shattered Avielle’s heart into pieces.

“Then we can finally be together again, just like we were in the past?” Avielle stared at Kyrian’s face as he gazed out the windows with a firm, cold look in his eyes, somewhat lost.

“Did you hear what I said Kyrian?” Claire called to get back his attention.

“Yeah…no, what was that you said?” “I said, we can be together again…” She wound her arms around his neck leaning closer, “…

before she tore us apart with her evil plans.” Unable to continue looking, Avielle weakly leaned her back to the wall behind her, her eyes closing painfully.

“She never fulfilled her role as Luna to you, never gave you a child.

I’ll give you everything she couldn’t, we’ll have beautiful babies together.” Her voice turned seductive and alluring as she rubbed a hand down his chest suggestively.

Avielle wanted to leave, but her legs couldn’t move.

She wondered what she’d done wrong to Kyrian for him to treat her like this.

Memories…good memories of her time with him began to replay in her head like a backward movie and she shook her head.

She never should have pushed through with marrying him, but when she found out Claire was gone, she hadn’t been able to bear the thought of him standing alone, humiliated at the altar.

She really would have given him up to Claire back then but Claire had to make her go through this…had to make her suffer.

Though their marriage had startled coldly, he’d warmed up to her, cared for her, doted on her and always complimented her…so what happened?

Now it felt like she never even meant a thing to him.

Kyrian leaned closer to Claire, gazing down at her affectionately.

“Yes, we can have what we lost again.” Avielle slid down to the floor brokenly, holding in sobs of sheer agony as something in her wolf completely cracked.

She couldn’t bear it anymore, she couldn’t bear to watch him ruin her like this.

If he knew she was carrying his twins, he would take them away and hand them to his beloved Claire to raise then kick her to the curb, that was how little she meant to him.
