“Your body is heavily unstable and that might affect your children, though your pregnancy is fine and the fetuses are safe, but you are extremely weak and that might affect your health in the coming months of your pregnancy.” “What was that doctor, is she going to be alright?” Aunt Sarah quickly stepped forward.

“She’s fine for now ma’am, but I’m afraid I won’t be able to say the same in the future.” After taking some samples from her, the doctor left her with the instructions to rest.

Why did you let that man reject you like that?

Why didn’t you tell him you were pregnant?” Aunt Sarah questioned, sitting by the bed.

“He doesn’t care about me Aunt Sarah, if he knows about these children, he’ll take them from me and I’ll do absolutely anything to protect them.” Avielle replied softly turning her head away to hide her tears.

Aunt Sarah sighed, “Don’t worry, I’ll take you away from here.

I should have done that a long time ago but your uncle became Alpha after your father and he blocked every access we had to you.

I didn’t even know you were married into the Obsidian pack until recently.” The woman caressed the scarred side of her face, pain evident in her eyes, “I’m so sorry for not being there for you.” “You don’t have to feel guilty for anything, none of what happened to me was your fault.” Avielle said quietly.

“You’re very strong Avielle, I’m sure you made a very fine Luna.” Aunt Sarah said fondly.

“I was never a Luna to anyone here Aunt.” “That’s not true.” Nelly chimed in, “For me, and for many other people who respect you, you will always be our Luna.

You singlehandedly made new laws in favor of women in this pack, you fought for independent rights deprived of many females and you stood strong for them even when people mocked you and laughed at you, even insulted you.

Never underestimate who you are Avie.” Avielle’s tears spilled at those words.

She had indeed fought for what many women in the werewolf community were being deprived of.

Freedom, rights to independence and not being tied down by their parents all their lives then their mates, no one had ever truly thanked her except a few, but the changes she made always warmed her heart.

Later, aunt Sarah went to ask the doctors when Avielle could leave the hospital and they informed her that they would discharge her soon but strictly stressed that she needed adequate bed rest.

A few days later, Aunt Sarah toom her out of the hospital after handling her discharge.

Avielle looked up at the blue sky, feeling empty and dead inside, but a warm hand on her shoulder made her look next to her finding Nelly smiling at her warmly.

“I will be back.” She said to Nelly softly and the latter hugged her tightly.

“I know you will.” Aunt Sarah joined them saying something but Avielle’s gaze was pulled towards the black Rolls Royce parked on the side of the road, the person who alighted the car was a stranger.

Why was she hoping it would be him?

Avielle looked down disappointedly.

Perhaps it was the remnants of the mate bond, hoping within these past few days she’d spent at the hospital that he would come to visit.

She had fainted in front of him, but he didn’t care at all.

Just as they were about to leave, a bright yellow car stopped right in front of them, screeching loudly and swerving towards them, Avielle thought the car would crash into them until it came to a screeching halt.

Claire stepped down a few seconds later, her crutches non existent as she strutted on her heels to come face to face with Avielle who wasn’t surprised at all.

She knew Claire was faking it all along, and she had her little sob story of being a victim and Avielle the villain sewed into Kyrian’s mind.

“I came to see for myself, the pathetic bitch who fainted in front of my man just to get his sympathy.

Did you actually think he would fall for your little act?” Claire sneered with contempt.

Avielle clenched her fist, staring calmly at her before she replied, “You didn’t have to take the trouble coming all the way here, I accepted his rejection so you won.

Or did you come here to show me that the pathetic bitch between us is actually you, faking a leg injury and cooking up sob stories just to get the attention of a married man?” Claire’s beautiful face turned sour.

She was about to blurt something in anger but refrained from it, composing herself not wanting to look stupid in front of Avielle who clearly still kept her calm.

“Well, he tossed you out so he’s mine now.

The Luna title, it’s only a matter of time before I get it back, after all you took it from me in the first place.” “Claire, let’s not fool ourselves.

You’ve always been a liar, a manipulator and a cold hearted monster, the moon goddess made me Kyrian’s fated mate choosing me as Luna instead of you.” Avielle stepped right up to Claire’s face, “You were never fit to be Luna, you don’t have what it takes to be one.” Claire’s hand shot up but the slap she hoped to deliver never landed as someone grabbed her wrist from the side.

“Alright, that’s enough now.

Get lost before I tear every tiny strand of those fake lashes off.” Nelly threatened with a furious face.

Taking a deep breath, Claire snatched her wrist and stepped back.

“Oh well, there’s no need for me to bother about you anymore.

I’m not interested in getting into a cat fight with you and your hooligan friend over here when I’m carrying the alpha’s heir.” Avielle couldn’t help the stunned gasp that escaped her lips.

She glanced down at Claire’s flat stomach which Claire was stroking proudly.

“What did you say?” “Why do you look so hurt Avielle?

Is it so surprising to accept the fact that while you were busy playing sweet wife and Luna at home, your husband has been giving me a real good fucking you could never get from him?” She taunted, enjoying the sight of tears filling up Avielle’s eyes.

“All those nights he came home late with excuses of fake meetings and too much work, he was in my bed.” Avielle didn’t want to give Claire the satisfaction of seeing her crumble, she tried to reign in her tears, parting her lips to speak but no words came out.

If she said a word her voice would tremble and break.

“Ah would you look at that, a filthy rat running her mouth and taking pride in jumping into a man’s bed.

It reeks out here, I can’t stand it!” Avielle heard her aunt’s voice loud and sharp, not caring to attract the attention of people passing by.

Claire turned to look at aunt Sarah disdainfully, “And who the hell are you to talk to me like that?” “I’m someone you shouldn’t mess with.

Listen little girl, I have no issues slapping some sense into that mouth of yours until it bleeds.” The woman placed her hands on her hips looking ready to slap Claire silly.

Something about her made Claire fearfully take two steps back, now looking warily at the strange woman.

“You’re insane, you and Avielle and this…cheap hooligan she calls her friend, all of you have lost your minds.” “The rat really doesn’t know when to shut up, we’ll have to give it a real good beating to get it to zip it’s disgusting mouth shut!” Nelly said irritatedly cracking her fists.

The two women looking ready to tear her apart scared Claire enough to send her running back to her car, while trying not to look like she was fleeing like a coward.

“My fiancee will hear of this, Kyrian never spares anyone who dares to speak disrespectfully to me.” “Oh please, I’d like to see what that jerk of a man does.” Aunt Sarah rolled her eyes as Claire’s car furiously drove away.

“Are you okay?” Nelly’s warm touch brought Avielle back to her senses.

She forced a weak smile, trying not to look like she was on the verge of tears and shook her head.

“I’m fine.” She replied, giving Nelly one last lingering hug before getting into a cab with aunt Sarah and the driver drove off.

Avielle stared out the window listlessly.

Several times, Aunt Sarah would look at her worriedly, unable to take it anymore she said, “It’s okay Avielle, everything will be fine.

That man doesn’t deserve you, you’re going to find someone much better someday, someone who’ll love you wholeheartedly.” Aunt Sarah consoled her warmly.

“I don’t think I’ll ever be able to open my heart again, aunt.” Avielle shook her head stubbornly, not willing to let Aunt Sarah’s words sink in.

“Don’t say that, there will always be someone who will love you unconditionally and he will…” “If that is true why didn’t you ever find anyone yourself Aunt?” Avielle snapped, though she didn’t mean to, her emotions were too chaotic.

Though Avielle didn’t know the full story, she knew that Aunt Sarah had also separated from her husband, and she’d never loved again since then.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean…” “It’s okay.” Aunt Sarah smiled, knowing she hadn’t meant to snap like that, “But Avielle, my situation and yours is completely different.

You are special, and I could accept it if others don’t see it, but I won’t accept it if you refuse to see it yourself.” Avielle finally looked at the woman, teary eyed and not trying to hide it.

“I will always be here for you.

If your heart hurts, let it out and cry, but know that no matter what, you deserve happiness.” Avielle nodded quietly, her tears streaming down but she wiped it away.

She returned her gaze outside the window, this time the sadness fading away to be replaced by conviction.

‘Claire, Kyrian is all yours.

I hope you stay happy together.

I will never look back, not anymore…never again will I let you hurt me!’
