The next morning, Avielle reached the Obsidian Tower on time.
Kyrian had called saying he’d send his car over, she’d heard Claire playing the sweet angel over the phone telling him to go pick her up himself as if she were the kind wife extending an olive branch to the mistress, Avielle had immediately declined.
Nelly refused to let her leave looking normal, at the end of the day, she’d been forced to wear her hair up in a beautiful bun, along with a nice red dress.
“Won’t this look like I’m doing too much?” She’d asked Nelly self consciously.
“Are you kidding?
You always look like a goddess in red, I want you to walk in there looking strong.
Alpha Kyrian should know that he can never break you.” She looked at her reflection, the unscarred part of her face delicately beautiful but the other side.
“Maybe I should just wear my hair down to cover up…” “Don’t Avie, this might be the last time both Claire and Kyrian see you with the scar on your face.
Let them see that you’ve always been a badass, powerful woman.” Avielle took a long breath, “You’re right, I’m not ashamed of my scar.
It’s just a sign that I’ve survived so many hardships.” “That’s the spirit.” Nelly smiled from ear to ear then dropped her off at the Obsidian Tower thirty minutes later.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to go in with you?” Nelly asked, holding her hand.
Avielle nodded, “I’ll be fine, just wait here for me.” Avielle headed inside with calm steps making her way to the thirteenth floor which was slightly crowded today unlike the last time.
Many of the city’s elites were present here today and immediately she walked out of the elevator, all eyes turned on her.
Did Kyrian invite all these people here?
Her lips curled up in a bitter scoff, it seemed he was going to publicly reject her.
“Oh my gosh, she startled me!” Someone exclaimed from the side.
“That scar…
it’s repulsive!” Avielle looked over, she knew the woman who’d just spoken.
Delilah Joseph, an arrogant woman who believed she was gold itself.
Avielle chose to ignore her, but the latter decided to stand right in her way.
“Hi Luna, I hope you won’t take an offence to this but you really shouldn’t go out showing such a…
what should I call it?
This Disgusting scar that irritates people, I was so scared out of my wits just now, what if I had a heart attack?” Avielle gritted her teeth, maintaining composure as she looked Delilah in the eye, “Your heart condition hardly concerns me Delilah, now if you’d please step out of my way.” Without another word, Avielle walked away hearing whispers and laughter from Delilah’s group.
Though their ridicule stung her, she tried not to show it visibly.
Reaching Kyrian’s office, Avielle was about to raise her hand to knock when she heard voices from the inside.
“But I want to be here with you to support you.
Avielle is a very devious person, what if she has some weird plans to stop you from rejecting her?” She whinned.
Avielle could imagine her pouting like a child and playing the cute, concerned girlfriend.
“There’s no need for you to be here, this is between me and Elle, I’ll meet you outside when it’s done.” Avielle knew Claire only wanted to watch her break down after Kyrian rejected her.
Something in Avielle’s heart felt relieved that he refused to let her stay.
This was humiliation enough, if Kyrian allowed Claire to stay and watch her suffer from his rejection, Claire would taunt her with it.
It amazed Avielle how absolutely horrible Claire’s heart could be, she already took away everything from Avielle.
In the past she crafted all sorts of lies to get Avielle punished until her face was scarred, now it was her husband, she surely didn’t want to miss a chance to hurt Avielle.
It was the same reason she didn’t stay and switch places with Avielle on their wedding day to marry Kyrian and instead waited for three years to make her life miserable.
“Alright, but please don’t let her manipulate you, okay?” She didn’t hear Kyrian’s voice, but the door opened from the inside a while later.
She came face to face with Claire’s gorgeous face, a pair of pink walking crutches beneath her armpits.
Claire looked her over, a smug, derisive smirk curling up her lips.
“Avielle…you…
you’re here!” She said, her voice quivering, sounding like she was standing in front of her worst nightmare, yet that fear didn’t show in her eyes at all.
She looked back into the office as if looking to her source of strength before nodding with conviction and passing her by, not forgetting to deliberately bump her shoulder.
Avielle glanced at her back where Claire had turned as well giving her a triumphant smirk.
For Claire, this rejection and getting Kyrian back weren’t the main highlights, making Avielle miserable was.
Ignoring her, Avielle walked into the office where Kyrian was sitting behind his desk.
He looked handsome in a jet black suit, but his face was emotionless.
Kyrian stood up and walked to her looking her dead in the eye, a tense silence in the air.
“Would you like a drink?” He suddenly asked, moving past her to his bar area to grab two glasses then grabbed a bottle of his favorite wine.
“No, thank you.” Avielle said quickly.
She couldn’t drink because she was pregnant.
If he felt like having wine to celebrate, he could have it with Claire to celebrate her misery.
His gaze instantly darkened at her refusal, he poured himself a full glass and downed it in one go.
“Then let’s get this rejection over with.” He said coldly, placing his glass down harder than necessary.
Avielle felt her heart begin to hammer, she took a deep, calming breath to prepare herself.
“Okay.” She replied steadily, her eyes flashing with determination.
She would not show him that this was breaking her.
He seemed to observe her for a moment, no emotion showing on his face before he began, “I, Alpha Kyrian Dustwood of the Obsidian pack, reject you Avielle Watson as my mate and Luna.” Avielle gasped as a sharp pain rippled through her, the violent pull of the bond tearing from deep inside her, but she kept her head up refusing to feed Claire’s smug look of victory for when they would both laugh over this moment later.
It was up up to her to accept his rejection.
Kyrian was watching her closely, almost as if he didn’t believe she could do it.
“I, Avielle Watson, accept your rejection alpha Kyrian Dustwood.” Avielle suppressed a pained whimper as she felt the final threads of the mate bond shattering, leaving her in agony.
She clutched her chest, feeling it burn.
“You…” He muttered, unable to complete his words, looking at her in shock.
She couldn’t focus on the reason for this expression, not when she was in immense pain, finding it hard to breathe.
Her vision began to blur, she couldn’t focus on the face of the man she used to call her own.
Her gaze locked onto his dark ones one final time before the pain pulled her under.
—— A loud, repetitive beeping made her crack her eyes open to white lights and white ceilings.
Her whole body aching as if she’d run a marathon.
She groaned, looking around to find Nelly and someone else talking, both women turning to look at her when they heard her make a sound.
“Avie, you’re awake!” Nelly called, rushing to her side.
“Avielle.” The other woman said her name and immediately Avielle’s eyes focused, recognition lit up her gaze.
“Aunt Sarah?” The woman smiled kindly then rushed over to hug her where she laid.
Avielle hadn’t seen this aunt of hers in years, not since her father’s brother took the place of a guardian in her life.
Aunt Sarah was her mother’s sister, but there had been a disconnect in her mother’s family as apparently, her family didn’t approve of her mother marrying her father.
“Oh, you poor child.” Aunt Sarah caressed her cheeks tenderly.
Though the woman had strict looking features, her eyes still welled up with tears.
Avielle couldn’t help the tears stinging her eyes too.
“Are you okay?
Does it hurt anywhere?” Aunt Sarah fussed.
“Excuse me ma’am, please allow me to run some tests.” A doctor came forward making Aunt Sarah and Nelly step back.
Avielle forced a smile letting them know she was fine, but she could still feel the hollowness of Kyrian’s rejection in her soul.
There was a part of her wanting to give up on everything, but she was reminded of the life she carried inside her and she forced the feeling back down.
“Doctor, are my babies okay?” The doctor sighed heavily, “I have bad news…”
