JUNE’S POV My head turned toward the door as soon as it clicked open, and I saw Princess Cassy’s lips curled into a smirk.
“Mother,” Tristine said, his eyes widening slightly as he stood up from beside me.
He looked a little surprised to see them.
He clearly wasn’t expecting them, nor did I.
“Luna!” I greeted in a small voice, silently letting out a breath to calm my racing pulse.
As I tried to sit upright, Tristine quickly rushed to my aid before I lowered myself into a bow.
When I lifted my head, I found a frown on Princess Cassy’s face.
Seeing Tristine so close to me clearly annoyed her, and she could no longer hide it.
“What are you doing here?” Tristine asked Luna Amelia as calmly as he could, yet he couldn’t hide the frayed edge in his voice.
Luna Amelia didn’t waste another second before lifting her chin.
“I heard your wife is pregnant, we’re here to see her,” she replied, her voice calm and level.
She turned to face me, and a small smile curled on her lips as she moved closer.
That was quite fast!
A cold fear settled in my chest as the distance between us dwineled.
Somehow, my heart began to pound in my chest.
Although Tristine had assured me, I just couldn’t stop wondering what would happen if he decided to tell the truth.
After all, she was his mother.
Luna Amelia stopped right in front of me and placed her fingers beneath my jaw.
She tilted my face upward and looked into my eyes.
She leaned so close that I could feel her breath against my face.
It looked as though she was trying to read me.
It greatly unsettled me, and the pounding in my chest only grew louder.
After a few seconds, Luna Amelia’s lips curled upward, and she straightened, though she didn’t remove her fingers.
“It seems the women from the Rogue Packs are really fertile,” she said calmly, and I heard the sarcasm in her voice.
“I’m just shocked to find out you’re pregnant even when you’ve not consummated your marriage with my son!” Her words slammed into me.
The sharp edge in her voice betrayed the fury burning within her.
Her calmness was merely a façade and I didn’t need anyone to tell me she was really certain about it.
I didn’t say a word.
Deep down, I wondered how far she was willing to go.
I also wanted to see Tristine’s reaction, and what I could use to my advantage.
Tristine scoffed, then chuckled, the only sound that broke the tension between his mother and me.
“Mother, what are you talking about?” he asked as he stepped closer, his voice laced with disbelief.
Princess Cassy turned toward him, her brows knitting into a frown.
She seemed surprised that Tristine had come to my defense.
It clearly wasn’t what she had expected.
“Kira is my wife and we’ve been married for a while!” Tristine stated, his voice firm and steady, echoing conviction.
His words eased some of the tension in my shoulders.
The certainty in his voice was so real and almost convincing.
Only then did Luna Amelia remove her fingers from my jaw before slowly turning to Tristine, her eyes clouding as she stared into his.
“I know…
you’ve not consumed your marriage, Alpha,” stated calmly.
The change in her tone made me scoff.
It betrayed her wavering confidence.
Since Tristine was by my side, I knew all I needed to do was relax and play along.
As for Princess Cassy, the crease between her brows deepened as she stared pointedly at Tristine.
I I could feel the anger burning within her.
Her clenched fists only confirmed it.
Tristine scoffed, and placed his hands on his waist, then he stared at Luna Amelia in a feigned bewilderment.
“How did you know that, Mother?” he asked in a crisp voice, his eyes narrowing.
“I can see your spies have been feeding you the wrong information.” The words had barely left his lips when Luna Amelia shrugged.
“Well, then prove it,” she stated almost nonchalantly.
“If you’ve consummated your marriage, then prove it to me right now and I’ll believe you.” She seemed so certain that Tristine’s words hadn’t shaken her.
She wanted proof.
I caught Princess Cassy’s firm nod.
She couldn’t even hide her determination anymore.
The steady rise and fall of her chest reflected her determination to expose my lies.
A thick silence hung in the room, and as it stretched on, Tristine’s eyes clouded.
I knew he was already at his wit’s end.
I could almost see the wheels turning in his head as he searched for a solution.
My lips curled upward, and a scoff escaped me.
“I’ll prove it,” I said, breaking the silence.
Everyone turned toward me the moment they heard me.
“You want to know if we’ve consummated our marriage or not?
I’ll prove it,” I repeated.
I turned toward Tristine and found a slight crease between his brows.
His eyes were blank and unreadable.
“How do you intend to do that?” Luna Amelia asked, a sharp edge creeping into her voice.
I swung my feet to the marble floor and sat upright, resting my hands on my thighs.
“I don’t know about your traditions, but in my Rogue Pack, we have the tradition of showing our parents proof of our purity,” I replied, my voice firm and steady.
Then I turned toward Luna Amelia and held her gaze.
“To answer your question…
we’re not just fertile, we’re also well-trained and disciplined.
Right now, I’ll show you proof of my purity.” Luna Amelia’s lips parted, but she didn’t say a word.
No, she couldn’t.
Although the question in her eyes spoke volumes.
I knew she was wondering whether she should believe me.
Good thing I had prepared.
Although I had intended to use it to avoid having sex with Tristine, I never imagined it would work in my favor this way.
After September’s question on the day I got married, I realized I needed to prepare evidence.
I had planned to knock Tristine unconscious whenever he made advances toward me and present the stained bedsheet as evidence of our passionate night.
I never imagined it would serve an even greater purpose.
