UNE’S POV, My fists were clenched by my side as I marched out of Princess Kira’s room.

How dare Lord Boston request that from me?

“Meyer!” August’s voice rang behind me.Full novel: Alpha’s Rogue Bride — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Wait!

Where are you going?” But I completely ignored him, my feet carrying me farther toward the woods.

I didn’t want to talk to anyone, not even August who had been with me since we lost our Pack.

“Please excuse me, Sir August!” A lady called, drawing his attention, and deep within me, I was glad he was finally off my tail.

I ran into the woods, through the twisted oak trees, straight to my hut, a place where I had hidden my weapons.

As I sat on the bench, I pulled my dagger from my waist pouch and began whittling the branches I’d cut for arrows with swift motions, my mind occupied with Lord Boston’s ridiculous plan.

I was still lost in my thoughts when August stood in front of me, smiling from ear to ear.

“I knew I’d find you here!” He said, trying to catch his breath.

But I paid him no heed, I continued whittling the branches in a fierce intensity.

August stretched his right hand toward me after about four seconds and his brows pulled together.

“Wait, June,” he called, “You’re not planning on razing the Red Moon Pack, are you?” My head whipped toward him, and I shot him a glare.

“That’s none of your business!” I snapped, my jaw tightening as rage boiled within me.

August shrugged and moved to my side.

“Well, it is now,” he replied almost nonchalantly before dropping onto the bench beside me.

“Because I’m coming with you.” What?

My brows furrowed.

“You’re not going to do that!” I exclaimed.

August scoffed, a sarcastic smile tugging at his lips.

“I don’t need your approval, Meyer,” he replied, leaving no room for negotiation.

“We swore to do this together.

There’s no way I’m letting you face Tristine alone.” By the time he finished speaking, there was no trace of a smile left on his face.

As I stared straight into his dazzling blue eyes, I realized something…

It was pointless to argue with him.

Although, I was ready to give my life for my cause, I didn’t want August to carelessly throw his away.

He wasn’t ready to confront the enemy.

His impulsiveness might get us killed even before we confront Tristine.

So I nodded and tore my gaze away from his, as I picked up another branch.

“We act tonight!” I declared, even though my mind was already running wild with calculations.

His lips stretched into a wide, victorious grin and he nodded fervently.

His eyes shone with determination as he pulled out his dagger and picked up a branch with a swift motion.

“Let’s get our revenge tonight!” he declared, matching my energy.

My lips curled into a smirk, and I nodded.

If only he knew what I had planned for him.

We continued in silence until the arrow shafts were ready, and as we fixed the arrowheads and fletching in place, I turned to face him.

“One piece of advice for you, little one.” I said, drawing his attention.

He arched a brow as he turned to face me, and a silent chuckle escaped my lips.

I understood the look on his face, even though he didn’t say a word.

“You’re a man now, you must learn to think before you act.

Do you understand me?” I asked, holding his gaze.

August rolled his eyes.

“Oh ple…ase,” he waved a hand dismissively.

“Don’t tell me you’re about to lecture me again tonight,” he said before scoffing.

But the intensity in my gaze didn’t falter, nor did I give in to his playful chatter.

It might be the last chance I’d have to do this, and I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to make sure he understood my words.

Deep within me, I knew if I failed to achieve my goals, August would avenge me, my father and our Pack members, trusting Lord Boston’s plan.

I had to make sure he remembered my last warnings if things went south.

August adjusted on his spot, seeing I didn’t bulge like before.

“Don’t worry, Meyer,” he said, determination coating his features.

“I understand the responsibilities on my shoulders.

I haven’t forgotten your lectures.” His words somehow set my heart at ease, and a slow breath slipped from my lungs.

I nodded, my lips spreading into a small smile.

I was glad he at least hadn’t forgotten all I had said to him.

By the time we were done fixing the arrowheads, stars had lit up the sky, and a half-moon hung above us.

I changed into my black, body-hugging suit, and tied my hair to a bun, while he tightened his belt.

After putting on my wolf face mask, I was set for revenge.

I quickly pulled the small bottle from my side pocket and uncapped it.

August smiled at me as soon as I stepped out of the hut.

“Let’s go get what rightfully belongs to us!” he snarled, his blue eyes shinning in determination.

But as he turned to lead the way, I hurried behind him.

“August!” “Yes Meyer,” he answered, a broad smile on his face as he turned to face me.

“I’m sorry!” I said quickly.

“Hmmm?” Before he could process what I meant, I sprayed the powder into his face.

His eyes rolled back instantly, and he staggered backward, but before he could hit the grass, I caught him guarding him slowly.

After laying him inside the hut, my brows knitted as a painful smile spread across my face.

“Farewell, August,” I said.

“May our ancestors protect you.” I wiped away the tears that clouded my vision and locked the door behind him before sending the glicorn bird with a message to September – the oldest spy of Lord Boston, Alpha Tristine’s Chief Maiden.
