“Inuyasha-sama, how could you say that about Sesshomaru-sama?” Jaken had been approaching the camp in high spirits, eager to deliver the good news.
Then Inuyasha’s words struck his ears and left him numb.
Now he did not know whether he was about to report good news or announce his own death.
“Sesshomaru-sama has been trying very hard!
It is all those dishonorable panthers’ fault.” “The panthers are terrible!” Jaken waved his arms and loudly defended his master.
His eyes bounced between Inuyasha and Sesshomaru, who was flying down from the cliff, while layer after layer of cold sweat formed across his forehead.
Feeling that familiar yet ominous presence approaching from behind, Jaken could almost see a bright red DANGER sign appear over his head.
The minor yokai wailed inwardly as his legs began trembling beyond his control.
‘I’m doomed!’ Sesshomaru descended from the sky and landed with one foot planted on the back of Jaken’s head.
Jaken slammed face-first into the dirt.
His limbs twitched once before going still.
Only the unfinished half of a sentence drifted faintly from between the clumps of soil.
“Sesshomaru-sama, your humble servant invited Inuyasha-sama here to…” Using Jaken as his landing pad, the elder dog demon swept one sleeve aside, sending his luxurious robes billowing in the wind.
His cold golden eyes reflected his younger brother, who stood with his arms folded and refused to show the slightest weakness.
Sesshomaru did not particularly hate the younger brother he was meeting for the first time.
Their father had suffered mortal wounds while rescuing Inuyasha’s mother, but that had been a decision made of his own free will.
Tragic as the result had been, Sesshomaru could not blame an innocent brother.
On the contrary, Inuyasha’s willingness to come and help earned a small measure of his approval.
Whatever his reasons might be, he had appeared when he was needed.
What Sesshomaru disliked was his brother’s attitude.
He stepped forward with a sharp pressure that seemed to force even the air aside.
“Inuyasha, what exactly are you so proud of?” “Proud?” Inuyasha snorted and stepped forward as well.
Less than three feet apart, the brothers stared directly into each other’s eyes.
Seeing Sesshomaru inexplicably reminded Inuyasha of several iconic lines his brother would one day deliver.
“Why did you protect her?
Why did you let her escape?
Why did you fall in love with her?” “Nothing in this world could ever compare to Rin’s life!” ‘Any lolicon deserves the electric chair!’ Two heads of silver hair streamed in the wind like banners.
Two pairs of golden eyes met beneath the sunlight, shining brilliantly.
One brother was cold, proud, and unapproachable.
The other was wild, defiant, and restrained by no taboo.
The heavy atmosphere made Jaken, who had secretly raised his head behind them, immediately bury his face like an ostrich again.
The demons watching nearby also sensed that something was wrong and did not dare make a sound.
Yura glanced at Sesshomaru’s flowing hair, so similar to Inuyasha’s.
The urge to hunt surged within her as she waited for her master to give the order.
“You cannot even deal with a pack of stray cats…” Inuyasha tilted his head.
“Sesshomaru, you still need more training.” “Training?
Then allow me to teach you how to respect your elder brother!” The moon-white figure vanished.
An instant later, Sesshomaru was directly before Inuyasha, his right fist screaming through the air toward his face.
Inuyasha stepped aside, allowing the fist to roar past his ear.
His left hand hooked toward Sesshomaru’s wrist while his right elbow drove into his brother’s ribs.
Sesshomaru lowered his left arm to block the elbow and drove his knee toward Inuyasha’s stomach like a cannonball.
Bang!
Inuyasha slapped the knee aside with one palm and raised his right fist high.
Sesshomaru answered with a punch of his own.
Their fists collided.
The force of the impact exploded outward from the brothers, sweeping loose stones through the air.
Both were forced half a step back, and both charged again at the same instant.
Fists, claws, elbows, and knees collided in blinding sparks as their figures crossed between the cliffs, moving so quickly that only trails of afterimages remained.
Silver intertwined with silver beneath the sky, weaving a dazzling net of light.
Royakan’s jaw fell open.
He did not even notice several wolves running out of his mouth, while the demons who had been indignant moments earlier now stared with eyes stretched wide.
Sesshomaru, the distant cold moon they had believed beyond anyone’s reach, was fighting a half-demon on equal terms.
At some point, Jaken crawled out of the crater and brushed the dirt from his face.
He hurried over to Royakan and the others, planted both hands on the Staff of Two Heads, and puffed out his chest proudly.
“Do you see now?
That is Sesshomaru-sama’s younger brother, Inuyasha-sama!
Together, they are invincible!
The great Jaken-sama knew it all along—” Before he could finish his saliva-spraying boast, a cold shout rang from above.
“I’ll melt you with my Poison Claws!” Sesshomaru’s Poison Claws raked across Inuyasha’s shoulder.
Inuyasha retaliated with a swipe that tore open Sesshomaru’s sleeve.
The two silver figures fought from the sky to the ground, then sprang back into the air.
Their blows grew heavier and their attacks fiercer.
Killing intent mingled with demonic energy, without the slightest hint that they planned to join forces.
Yura leaned against a dead tree, playing cat’s cradle with her hair as she spread an inescapable net around the area.
Her eyes followed the crossing afterimages.
The brothers had gone from fists to demonic energy, and from testing each other to fighting in earnest.
Their tempers had truly flared, and at this rate, they would fight to the death before ever confronting the panthers.
Yura turned and gave Jaken a strange look as he continued boasting about them being invincible together.
She estimated that she would be beheading him later.
Quick-witted Jaken had noticed the problem too.
But what else could a minor yokai do besides boast to relieve the pressure?
Step between them and stop the fight?
He would be beaten to death!
A thunderous crash rang out as both brothers slammed back to the ground, shattering the rock beneath their feet.
The red and white figures prepared to clash again, only to stop at the same moment.
Not far away, turbulent demonic energy rolled over the horizon like a black tide.
Panther banners snapped beneath the dark clouds.
Countless figures carrying killing intent and fire surged toward the camp, which had only just caught its breath.
“Sesshomaru-sama!
Inuyasha-sama!
The Panther Tribe is advancing!” Royakan shouted.
The wounded demons scattered across the ground struggled to rise, yet little fear remained in their eyes.
Inuyasha was here this time, and they would make sure none of those panthers returned alive!
‘We’ll win!’ Sesshomaru swept an expressionless glance over the approaching demonic energy, then looked sideways at Inuyasha.
The fighting spirit in his eyes faded.
“Inuyasha, I will let you off for now.” “Ridiculous.
I am the one letting you off!” Inuyasha flicked his hand, and the golden light around his claws carved five trails through the air.
He watched the approaching cloud of demonic energy and grinned.
“Once we deal with these panthers, Sesshomaru, you had better not run away!” Sesshomaru suddenly found the younger brother baring his fangs and claws before him even more irritating than the panthers.
He looked away, turned, and flew into the sky, heading straight toward the enemy army.
Inuyasha watched with envy.
His weakness in aerial combat was a serious flaw at the moment, but that was all it was.
“Yura, coordinate with the others!” Inuyasha ordered before charging toward the enemy at a speed only slightly slower than Sesshomaru’s.
