Xie Ning never expected that on the very first day of returning to the apocalypse, she would be pushed out by her best friend to feed the zombies.

Her head throbbing with fever, she had just opened her eyes when a powerful force shoved her toward the door.

Accompanying the push were the reluctant words of her best friend, Ma Yu: “Xie Ning, don’t blame me. It’s either you or me now. I don’t want to do this as friends, but I really don’t want to die.”Full novel: Apocalypse: Escape from Day One — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Ma Yu grabbed Xie Ning’s arm and turned her face away, unable to bear Xie Ning’s icy gaze fixed on her.

Beside them, another classmate, He Zhi, reached out to pull her back.

“She’s awake, Xie Ning is awake! Ma Yu, can’t we wait a little longer?”

“Awake? Haven’t you felt her temperature? She’s burning up with a fever and mutating. Do you want to wait until she bites someone before killing her? Put away your Mother Teresa heart. Kindness is useless at a time like this.”

“But a fever doesn’t necessarily mean mutation. It could very well be the awakening of a supernatural ability!” He Zhi was still hesitant. After all, they were classmates, and the government had issued an emergency notice stating that supernatural ability awakening could also be accompanied by high fever.

“Better to kill by mistake than risk our own lives! He Zhi, stop talking. It’ll be too late soon!”

But Ma Yu remained unmoved. She pushed He Zhi aside.

The moment the door opened—

Just as Ma Yu was about to kick Xie Ning out, an iron-like hand clamped onto her arm.

How could someone so feverish still have such strength?

Ma Yu gasped sharply.

“You really are… as selfish as ever.”

Xie Ning let out a light laugh, her words fragmented.

Exactly the same choice as twenty years ago.

To save herself, regardless of whether Xie Ning was awakening a supernatural ability, she only wanted to kick her out to feed the zombies and buy time.

“You want to use my life to save your own worthless hide? That depends on whether you… whether you’re even qualified.” Xie Ning suddenly grabbed Ma Yu’s hair.

With a forceful tug, she gripped the back of Ma Yu’s head and slammed it hard against the door.

“Thud!”

The impact was so heavy that it made the hearts of all the girls present skip a beat.

Before anyone could understand how Xie Ning had moved, Ma Yu’s hair suddenly burst into flames.

He Zhi and the others were startled. Before they could react to what was happening, they saw Ma Yu being kicked hard by Xie Ning and sent flying.

Ma Yu, along with the door panel, crashed heavily to the ground, unfortunately pinning several rotting corpses beneath it.

“Ah!” Ma Yu let out a sharp cry. The flames on her head spread to the rotting corpses, rapidly igniting them.

The rotting corpses felt no pain, only waving their arms and roaring hoarsely amidst the flames.

But Ma Yu was screaming in agony, rolling back and forth on the ground.

As she rolled, she reached the low window in the corridor. Staring at the torrential rain pouring outside, she suddenly leaped out.

“Ma Yu!!” He Zhi rushed out the door, nearly fainting from fright.

That was the third floor!

Did Ma Yu really just jump?
