Thank goodness!

They had finally made it out. Song Kexin let out a long sigh of relief and excitedly grabbed Song You’ai’s left hand. “Auntie, are you and our sister both okay?”

“We’re fine, we’re fine.” Song You’ai directly handed her a long-handled kitchen knife and patted Song Kexin’s shoulder. “Kexin, take this for self-defense. Later, we’ll learn how to kill rotting corpses together with Xiao Ning.”Full novel: Apocalypse: Escape from Day One — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“We need to grow stronger quickly. Look, even your sister, a literary girl, can kill zombies now. There’s no way we can’t do it, right?” Song You’ai chattered on.

Over there, Xie Ning glanced toward the supermarket while pulling them along. “Mom, Mom, let’s go! We’ll talk on the way.”

“What’s this small truck for?” Song Kexin was about to ask when Xie Ning pushed her into the minivan.

Song You’ai, despite her plump figure, moved with surprising agility, swiftly hopping into the small van and quickly following Xie Ning’s minivan. The two vehicles drove out one after the other.

Song Kexin reached out and touched Xie Ning’s forehead, her eyes lighting up with joy. “Sis, you don’t seem as feverish anymore.”

“Yeah, my vision is much clearer now. Don’t worry, your sister’s tough.”

Xie Ning floored the accelerator, driving straight out of the Aijia Supermarket entrance. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted two burly men frantically waving by the roadside, seemingly trying to force their way forward.

Xie Ning paid them no mind and drove off without a second glance.

Song Kexin anxiously turned to look at the small van following behind.

Only when she saw her aunt speeding up to keep pace did she let out a slight sigh of relief.

“Where are we going?”

“Songjiage.”

“To Grandma and Grandpa’s place?” Song Kexin straightened up. “Hasn’t the virus contaminated their area?”

“The virus attacks indiscriminately; the entire world is contaminated. What do you think?”

Xie Ning glanced at Song Kexin. “But the countryside is more spacious and open, with fewer people.”

Compared to the crowded city, Songjiage was the best option.

“Will the government take care of us?”

“Yes.” Xie Ning nodded firmly.

If nothing unexpected happened, survivors in the Songjiage area would be evacuated to the Safe Zone fairly early.

It was probably around the tenth day after the apocalypse began that they were quickly relocated.

“Okay, Sis, we’ll listen to you.”

Xie Ning gave a slight nod, only to hear an untimely growl coming from Song Kexin’s stomach.

“Have something to eat first.”

“I can hold on.” Song Kexin blushed slightly. “Food is scarce; we should save it.”

“It’s fine.” Xie Ning reached out and ruffled the girl’s messy hair. “Have some biscuits to fill your stomach first.”

Song Kexin rubbed her growling stomach, then took out a pack of chocolate biscuits from her backpack. After taking a couple of bites, she handed some to Xie Ning.

The car drove out of the bustling city center.

Along the way, they passed three pharmacies. Each time, Xie Ning would get out and quickly gather some common medicines, stuffing them all into the large black travel bag.

The rice, flour, oil, and other supplies that had originally filled the travel bag were now piled high in the back seat of the car.

Leaving the city, taking the elevated highway would normally take just over half an hour.

But now, Xie Ning wasn’t sure. If the highway was completely blocked by vehicles, it would be impassable, and turning back would be difficult.

“Let’s take Xishan Road instead.” It would be twenty minutes slower but safer.

The two cars had been driving steadily one behind the other when suddenly, from the opposite side, a wobbling SUV swerved toward them and collided with Xie Ning’s car with a loud “bang.”

Xie Ning sharply turned the steering wheel to avoid a direct hit.
