Song You’ai stepped on the accelerator, watching in the rearview mirror as over a dozen rotting corpses slowly wandered and gathered from the chaotic traffic.
As if stimulated by the scent of human flesh, they limped along, following the small truck for a while.
However, these rotting corpses were too slow and were soon left far behind by Song You’ai’s driving.
Xie Ning and Song Kexin both turned to stare at the rear.
They saw the rotting corpses mindlessly circling in place, foolishly waiting for the “meat” to return.
As the scent of flesh gradually dissipated in the wind, they slowly dispersed.
Song Kexin let out a sigh of relief and gulped, “Oh my god, those things are attracted by sound and smell, right?”
Xie Ning nodded. “The sound of the crash just now will draw all the nearby zombies. If we had left any later, we would have been in danger of being surrounded by dozens or even hundreds of rotting corpses.”
Song Kexin shuddered. “Got it, sis. From now on, we need to be extra careful and cautious in everything we do.”
Song You’ai drove the small truck, her full attention fixed on the road ahead, a thin layer of sweat glistening on her forehead.
“Mom, don’t be nervous. You drive for a while, and I’ll go lie down in the back to rest and regain some energy. I’ll take over for you in half an hour.”
Song You’ai nodded with focused determination, her eyes still fixed unwaveringly on the road ahead, not daring to relax for a moment.
The vehicle pulled over in an empty area.
Xie Ning turned her head and exchanged a knowing glance with Song You’ai.
Song You’ai understood instantly, nodding with a smile. “You must be tired after fighting those rotting corpses for so long. Go rest for a bit. No rush—you can take over for me after an hour if you need to.”
Song Kexin hung her head and sighed. “It’s just a shame about the food we left in the back seat.”
Glancing at the large black travel bag in her sister’s hand, Song Kexin felt like beating her chest in frustration.
They shouldn’t have replaced the food in the bag with medicine. Now, food and water were even scarcer.
Xie Ning gave her sister an amused look and patted her head. “You won’t starve.”
Song You’ai pulled over to the side. “Don’t worry, Kexin. Your aunt has plenty of fat reserves. I’ll save all the food for you two.”
Hearing this, Song Kexin felt even more uneasy: Auntie, that’s really not necessary…
Xie Ning didn’t explain further. She jumped out of the car, quickly ran to the back of the truck, unlocked the door, and climbed inside.
The compartment was packed full, with a full three tons of goods.
Boxes were neatly stacked, one on top of another.
Mostly imported snacks and dairy products, but there were also biscuits, vacuum-packed jerky, and everything else one could need.
Xie Ning breathed a sigh of relief and wasted no time moving the items into the living room of the large villa.
Fortunately, the living room had plenty of space, and even stacking the boxes didn’t take up much room.
Though their once-pristine villa living room had now turned into a makeshift warehouse!
Still, with so many supplies, Xie Ning felt a renewed sense of confidence.
After hastily clearing out the items from the van, Xie Ning thought for a moment and decided to leave a few bags of jerky and a box of milk behind.
After all, the supplies from the business car had been “lost,” and she couldn’t let her poor little cousin starve.
A little over half an hour later, just as Xie Ning finished organizing everything, the small van came to a stop.
Xie Ning pulled open the lock and jumped out of the vehicle, her gaze falling on the words “Gas Station” not far away.
Scavenge for a better car at the gas station?
And maybe some gasoline?
That didn’t seem like a bad idea.
“Kexin, there’s milk and jerky in the back.”
“Really, sis?”
“Alright, lock up the carriage and go eat. Mom and I are heading to the gas station; we’ll be back in twenty minutes.”
