Xie Ning’s gaze lingered on the two RVs, looking once, then again.

She then squeezed her mother’s hand and said, “Mom, let’s go take a look.”

Song You’ai nodded and followed her daughter as they ran toward the convenience store.Full novel: Apocalypse: Escape from Day One — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Coincidentally, the man and woman who had fled from the convenience store had drawn away several zombies, allowing the mother and daughter to reach the store entrance smoothly.

The RV was about five meters long and appeared to have been reinforced and modified, with a noticeably high chassis.

Despite having violently crashed through the convenience store’s shattered glass door earlier, its bumper remained completely intact.

It was clear that this vehicle was of excellent quality.

Although it might be a bit fuel-inefficient, with this RV, they could live a slightly more comfortable life even while constantly moving during their escape.

“Mom, be careful. There might be zombies inside. Stay back and let me handle it.”

Song You’ai nodded. “Be careful, dear.”

Xie Ning slowly approached the vehicle and peered inside through the door’s window.

Suddenly, an elderly, wrinkled face pressed against the small window, its grayish-white pupils staring directly at Xie Ning.

Without expression, Xie Ning yanked open the RV door and deftly looped a thick hemp rope she had retrieved from her Small Space around the elderly zombie’s neck.

With a forceful tug, she dragged it out of the RV and flung it heavily onto the ground.

Before Song You’ai could even see her daughter’s movements clearly, the elderly zombie’s skull was pierced by a long blade.

Song You’ai shuddered and turned her eyes away, unable to bear the sight.

Xie Ning then moved to the front driver’s seat.

Through the window, she saw a middle-aged man slumped back in the seat, a bloody hole bitten into the left side of his neck, from which blood was gushing out and flowing down his body.

Xie Ning took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a moment.

She opened the door with one hand, unfastened the seatbelt, and dragged the man out of the driver’s seat, throwing him onto the ground.

Before the man’s grayish-white pupils could darken further, she drove a blade into his skull, granting him a final release.

From the side, Song You’ai observed her daughter performing these actions with an almost numb expression, her demeanor remarkably calm and composed.

Song You’ai didn’t dare say a word, standing uneasily to the side.

Xie Ning retrieved a plastic sheet she often used from her Small Space and spread it over the bloodstained leather seat. Turning to her mother, she urged, “Mom, make do with this for now. Let’s go pick up Kexin.”

With that, she jumped into the passenger seat and signaled for her mother to drive.

Song You’ai didn’t dare utter a single word of protest, sensing that her daughter was in a somber mood.

The RV turned around and sped toward the small van.

Before they could get close, they heard the coarse, guttural roars of rotting corpses.

It seemed to be coming from near the van.

Xie Ning’s expression changed, and Song You’ai slammed on the brakes, bringing the RV to a screeching halt.

“Ningning, look over there.”

With Xie Ning’s current eyesight, she could already see clearly.

Standing on the hood of the van were a man and a woman, using the last of their food supplies to throw at the four zombies in front of them.

Items like potato chips and bread hit the zombies’ heads, but the zombies didn’t even flinch.

The woman screamed in terror, “Don’t come closer! Don’t come closer!”

She seemed capable only of repeating these words over and over. Beside her, the tall, thin young man looked equally pale.

He even regretted his decision to turn back and save this foolish woman.

Now they were truly done for.

Surrounded by zombies, they clung desperately to a sliver of hope, scrambling toward the roof of the vehicle.
