The middle-aged burly man nodded, “Got it, boss. I’ll send someone to keep an eye on those survivors. I definitely won’t let them cause trouble over food.”
After all, causing trouble is a minor issue, but attracting hordes of zombies to chase and surround them would be a major problem.
“I want to see your leader, I want to see your leader!” Shi Ailing had just shouted twice when two soldiers with stern expressions grabbed her by the arms.
“You’re the military sent to rescue us, right? Why are you treating unarmed civilians like this? Shouldn’t you be protecting the lives and property of the people?”
“I don’t want to hear any annoying sounds within the next three minutes,” the man ordered coldly. The baby-faced soldier immediately nodded and quickly walked toward the detained Shi Ailing.
“Hey, lady, can you calm down a bit?”
The baby-faced soldier pulled out an ID card from his collar and waved it in front of the woman. “Special Operations Team, Zhai Ruobai. Sorry, we’re not the military sent to pick you up.”
“We have our own mission to handle. Whether we take you with us or not is our own choice.”
“Lady, if you still can’t control your emotions like before and keep screaming hysterically, it’ll be hard for us to take you along.”
“What did you say?” Shi Ailing widened her eyes, showing an expression of disbelief.
Zhang Yang quickly stepped forward, politely nodding to the baby-faced Zhai Ruobai. “Thank you for your assistance, officers. Um, I’d like to go with you. I definitely won’t cause any trouble.”
Zhai Ruobai glanced at the tall and thin Zhang Yang. “Fine. But if you’re coming with our team, you have to obey orders the entire way. No matter what we say, everyone must follow instructions without raising objections midway. Can you do that?”
“Yes, yes, I can, comrade.”
“This…” Zhai Ruobai pointed at Shi Ailing on the side.
Zhang Yang hurriedly shook his head vigorously. “I’m not familiar with this woman.”
His words made Shi Ailing’s blood boil. She turned her head and glared fiercely at him. “Zhang Yang, what are you saying? Are you really cutting ties with me?”
Zhang Yang glanced at her impatiently. “At a time like this, what else do you want from me? From now on, let’s go our separate ways. I can’t handle your affairs anymore.”
“Zhang Yang!” Shi Ailing let out a sharp scream.
Zhai Ruobai quickly covered his ears, looking at her with disgust. “Hey, hey, hey, lady, can you control your emotions? Can you, or can’t you?”
Shi Ailing turned her head and looked at Zhai Ruobai with a hint of fear.
She had a feeling that if she said “can’t,” she would definitely be discarded like trash by these people without any hesitation.
So she gritted her teeth, forced herself to appear calm, and nodded. “Y-yes, I can.”
“Alright, this is my last warning to you.” Zhai Ruobai made a zipping motion over his mouth and looked at the woman expressionlessly. “Control yourself. Keep it under control.”
Zhai Ruobai glanced at the woman, then turned and quickly walked toward the convenience store. “There are two minutes left. Everyone, please come out of the convenience store immediately and get ready to board the vehicle. We won’t wait for anyone who’s late.”
The young woman sitting by the window in the second row tightly hugged the boy, about seven or eight years old, in her arms. Her eyes were fixed on the window as she silently prayed that her husband would hurry back with the food.
“Mom, didn’t we agree to go play at Seven Joy Valley?”
The young woman patted her son’s head. “That plan will have to be postponed.”
