📖 Chapter 1 – “Reborn as Cannon Fodder in the Apocalypse”
If he told the truth, Mo Han had always secretly wished he could be transported to another world. But he never expected it to actually happen—and even worse, he had transmigrated into an apocalypse novel he once read!
Fine, if he had to enter a novel, why couldn’t he become the male lead? Or at least an important supporting character? Why did he end up as a cannon fodder character? What the hell?!
The novel he entered was an apocalypse-themed story full of explicit content. The female lead was named Ye Qingtang. Her name sounded a bit neutral, and she matched it well—she was a famous strong, independent woman. Maybe because of her “protagonist aura,” all the male leads fell for her.
But forget about the leads for now—let’s talk about Mo Han.
Yes, the cannon fodder character he became was also named Mo Han. He had complained a lot about the novel when reading it before.
As proper cannon fodder, Mo Han wasn’t weak. In fact, he was forceful. But his ability to get himself killed was even stronger.
Think about it—you’re just a side character, and it’s already bad enough that you fall in love with the female lead. But he actually tried to assault her! Wasn’t that basically asking to die? A side character cannot challenge someone who is protected by the protagonist’s luck.
In the end, Mo Han tried to drug and assault the female lead but failed. During a fight, one of the male leads accidentally killed him, which only brought that male lead and the female lead closer together.
Thinking about this fate, Mo Han couldn’t help sighing. Women were truly dangerous. Luckily, he liked men, so he definitely wouldn’t make the same stupid mistake as the original Mo Han and challenge the protagonist.
If he avoided that, maybe he could even change his fate. If he was lucky, he might even become friends with the female lead and benefit from her protagonist’s luck.
The current date was March 23, 2017. There were about three months left before the zombie outbreak.
Mo Han hadn’t finished reading the novel, so he didn’t know exactly why zombies appeared. The story only vaguely mentioned that some unknown substance caused cells in humans and other creatures to mutate into a zombie virus.
But that didn’t matter right now. His priority was to prepare for the apocalypse.
He touched the jade pendant hanging on his chest, his expression uncertain.
In the novel, the original Mo Han not only provoked the female lead but also conveniently handed a huge advantage to the male lead—this jade pendant.
This pendant was no ordinary pendant. It contained a separate storage space.
Mo Han and the male lead who saved the female lead were high school classmates and good friends. But in the end, that same male lead killed him.
After accidentally killing Mo Han, the male lead felt guilty and kept the jade pendant. Later, during a battle, his blood accidentally dripped onto it, and the pendant recognized him as its owner.
According to the story, this pendant became the male lead’s special advantage. But this item was extremely valuable for surviving in the apocalypse.
Instead of giving it away and relying on the male lead for protection, Mo Han decided to keep it for himself. After all, who knew if that guy could be trusted? The original Mo Han died because of him. What if he made a mistake and ended up the same way?
After making up his mind, Mo Han took a knife and cut his right index finger. Carefully, he let a drop of blood fall onto the jade pendant, watching it with hope.
Before long, a soft white light began to glow from the pendant.
Mo Han felt happy. He knew this meant the pendant had accepted him as its owner.
Although it was a storage space, it could only hold objects—not living things. Even the owner couldn’t enter it. The space inside was a vacuum, so items would never spoil no matter how long they were stored.
Compared to other storage abilities in the novel, this pendant had one major advantage—its size. It was as large as thousands of football fields and nearly a thousand meters tall, making it the largest storage space in the story.
It had another important function: it could boost the user’s powers and speed up their growth. Although this became less useful later in the apocalypse, it was very important in the early stages.
Since the apocalypse hadn’t arrived yet, Mo Han decided to buy as many supplies as possible.
In the apocalypse, food and daily necessities would become extremely valuable. However, as people with powers grew stronger and technology developed quickly, old weapons and medicine gradually became less useful. Guns could only deal with low-level zombies, and even tanks were useless against stronger ones.
So he didn’t need to stock too much medicine. As for guns—he couldn’t buy them even if he wanted to.
Before transmigrating, Mo Han was just an ordinary college student. But the Mo Han in this world was much richer—a small millionaire. The money came from his parents, who had died in a car accident the previous year.
After calming himself, Mo Han sat down and made a list of supplies.
First, food, water, and seasonings—these were the most important. Next were daily hygiene products like soap and shampoo. In the apocalypse, no one would bother producing these things.
Cigarettes, alcohol, sugar, and tea weren’t very important to him, but they would become rare items, so he decided to stock up anyway.
And of course, he couldn’t forget his favorite snacks.
He thought for a moment and added kitchen tools like pots and bowls. He also needed a car and gasoline, which would be useful in the early days. Seeds for crops were also important.
As for his house—it was better to sell it and use the money to buy supplies.
He carefully wrote everything down, biting his pen from time to time, afraid of forgetting something important. This was his chance to survive—he had to use it well.
After finishing the list, he checked it several times to make sure nothing was missing. Satisfied, he went out to start buying supplies.
There were only a little more than three months left before the apocalypse. It sounded like enough time, but once he started preparing, he realized it wasn’t nearly enough.
He spent the rest of his time reviewing the plot of the novel.
He didn’t tell anyone about the coming apocalypse. He didn’t want to be arrested for spreading rumors.
As for the male lead who used to be his best friend—he didn’t plan to warn him either. That guy had protagonist luck anyway. In the original story, he survived just fine without knowing in advance.
Although the original Mo Han was partly at fault, during their final fight, he had a chance to kill the male lead—but he hesitated and held back. The male lead, however, didn’t show the same mercy and accidentally killed him.
So even if the male lead was justified, Mo Han still couldn’t like him.
After finishing all preparations, Mo Han had spent all his money—even the money from selling his house.
Fortunately, he had arranged to stay in the house for a few more months, so he wouldn’t end up homeless.
Everything was ready.
Now, all he had to do was wait for the apocalypse to begin.
