📖 Chapter 11- “A Dangerous Game of Deception”

When Mo Han walked to the door, he stayed very alert. He did not open it right away. Instead, he looked outside through the crack.

One was a friendly-looking middle-aged man.

Another was a strong man with a fierce face.

The last was a beautiful woman. Even in the apocalypse, she still dressed up, but she looked tired and worn out. The two men, however, looked like they were living quite well.

Mo Han asked through the door,

“Who are you?”

He was not being overly cautious. In the apocalypse, killing and robbing others was common. Even if he hadn’t seen it yet, one mistake could cost his life.

Also, these three were not simple. Both men were level-two ability users, and the woman was a level-one ability user.

The friendly man spoke,

“Hello, we mean no harm. We are survivors too. My name is Feng Chao. This is my brother Du Wei, and this is my wife Tian Yue. May I ask your name?”

Mo Han replied coldly,

“Mo Han.”

Feng Chao smiled,

“Brother Mo Han, we would like to stay with you. That way we can help each other. It’s dangerous outside.”

Mo Han said calmly,

“No need. We are not used to living with others. There are many empty houses nearby. You can pick any of them.”

Du Wei glared at him and said angrily,

“You brat, don’t be so ungrateful! My brother is giving you face by asking. How dare you refuse! ”

“Du Wei! ” Feng Chao scolded him. Only then did Du Wei shut up unwillingly.

Feng Chao smiled apologetically again.

“Sorry about him. His temper is bad. Since you don’t want to live together, we’ll leave. We’ll stay next door. If you need help, you can come to us anytime.”

Mo Han said expressionlessly,

“Do as you like.”

After they left, Du Wei said roughly,

“Brother, why are we afraid of them? We could just kill them! We’ve killed many ability users already.”

“Shut up! What do you know? ” Feng Chao snapped. Then he turned to Tian Yue.

“Are you sure both of them are level-two? ”

Tian Yue nodded.

Her ability had no combat power—it was only for sensing. That was why she had to depend on these two men. Thinking about what they had done to her made her feel sick, but without her usefulness, she would already be dead like their past victims.

Feng Chao lit a cigarette and asked,

“Can you tell how badly the one inside is injured? ”

Tian Yue shook her head.

“I only know he’s injured, and not lightly. But I can’t tell how serious it is.”

“Useless! ” Feng Chao slapped her hard, knocking her to the ground.

“You can’t even tell their abilities or the injury clearly! ”

Du Wei asked,

“What do we do now? ”

Feng Chao crushed the cigarette and said coldly,

“We stay next door and observe. If that person is badly injured… then we act.”

When Mo Han returned, Situ Yu had already finished eating everything and was lazily lying on the bed.

“What’s going on? ” he asked.

Mo Han said seriously,

“It’s not good. Two level-two users and one level-one. They wanted to live with us, but I refused. Still, they chose to stay next door.”

“They found us easily among so many houses, and they said, ‘You two.’ That means they know you’re here. I think one of them has a sensing ability. They might even know you’re injured.”

Situ Yu said casually,

“What’s there to worry about? Just a bunch of clowns.”

Mo Han almost exploded.

“Don’t forget—you are seriously injured! I have almost no fighting power! We are the weak ones now! ”

Situ Yu smirked.

“Yes, we know that. But they don’t.”

“If they knew, they would have attacked already. Their sensing ability must be limited. That’s why they’re observing instead of acting.”

Mo Han understood after hearing this but still frowned.

“So what do we do? ”

Situ Yu smiled slyly.

“If they want to test us, we’ll play along. Since they came to us, we might as well have some fun.”

Mo Han snorted.

“Have fun? Be careful you don’t die instead.”

Not long after, there was another knock on the door.

Situ Yu sneered,

“They couldn’t wait to test us. Idiots.”

Mo Han rolled his eyes and went to the door.

Through the crack, he asked impatiently,

“What do you want now? ”

This time, only Feng Chao came.

Feng Chao smiled kindly.

“My wife has a sensing ability. Earlier, we checked your situation without permission. I came to apologize.”

Mo Han sneered inside. The man sounded sincere, but he didn’t believe him.

Mo Han suddenly showed anger and released his aura as a mid-level second-stage ability user.

“You dared to spy on us?! ”

Feng Chao’s face changed. He quickly smiled nervously.

“We were wrong. We just wanted to see if there were survivors nearby. To show our apology, we brought some medicine since we sensed someone was injured.”

Mo Han’s aura grew even stronger.

“Get lost! We don’t need your medicine! If you dare spy on us again, I’ll kill you! ”

He sneered again.

“You just entered level two. Don’t think you’re anything special.”

Then he turned and walked away.

Feng Chao’s face turned ugly.

He felt both angry and uncertain.

Was Mo Han truly fearless…

or just bluffing?
