As the glowing light moved across the snow mastiff’s body, it finally escaped the danger of death.

Its incredible healing ability amazed Mo Han. This snow mastiff had mutated extremely well—it was definitely a top-tier mutant. Its recovery, strength, intelligence, and endurance were far stronger than the Level 3 wolf leader they had killed before.

If it survived, it would definitely become a lord-level mutant in the late apocalypse.Full novel: Apocalypse Plot Twist: Oops! I fell for the Side character — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

At first, Mo Han seriously focused on healing it. But after some time, he couldn’t resist his urge and started petting the snow mastiff while healing.

He couldn’t help it—he was obsessed with dogs. Whenever he saw one, his intelligence seemed to drop to zero. Since childhood, he had been bitten many times for teasing dogs, but he never changed—and never planned to.

Fortunately, the snow mastiff knew that Mo Han had saved both her and its cub. So it tolerated his behavior. Besides, his touch actually felt quite comfortable.

While healing it, Mo Han suddenly discovered something surprising—his broken three-form ability was resonating with the snow mastiff’s ice ability and slowly recovering.

Although it was transforming into an ice-type ability, this was still great news for him.

Ability resonance was extremely rare. Even the female protagonist in the original story never experienced it.

Resonance didn’t require the same species or ability type. For example, in the story, a fire-type user once resonated with a water-type goldfish.

When two beings resonate:

When two different abilities resonate, the weaker one evolves toward the stronger one.

Mo Han’s three-form ability had been destroyed, so now it was recovering by turning into an ice ability, influenced by the snow mastiff.

However, his healing ability didn’t resonate with the snow mastiff, so it remained unchanged.

Suddenly, the resting snow mastiff let out a low warning growl.

Mo Han turned and saw that Situ Yu had returned.

He gently patted the snow mastiff and said,

“Don’t worry, he’s my companion.”

Seeing Situ Yu’s bad expression, Mo Han immediately understood.

“Feng Chao escaped?”

Situ Yu’s face darkened even more.

“Yes… He’s also a mind-type ability user.”

“Oh, a mind-type user,” Mo Han nodded and continued healing.

Although Mo Han didn’t say anything more, Situ Yu felt embarrassed, remembering how he had been controlled before.

“I’m not weaker than mind-type users!” Situ Yu said angrily.

“The first time was because I argued with my brother and was distracted. This time it was just carelessness!”

Mo Han calmly replied,

“I never said you were weaker. Mind-type abilities aren’t that scary. If someone has strong belief, determination, or great willpower, even a powerful mind user can’t control them.”

“But if someone only has belief without enough willpower, they can still be tricked by illusion-type abilities.”

Situ Yu became curious.

“Then what about you?”

Mo Han paused.

“Myself? I think I only have strong beliefs… my willpower isn’t that great.”

“What belief?” Situ Yu asked.

Mo Han glared at him.

“Why do you care so much? Think about yourself first—you’ve already lost to mind-type users twice.”

In truth, Mo Han’s belief was simple—he didn’t want to die. He had a very strong survival instinct, but he was too embarrassed to say it.

He also realized something important—thinking he might return to his old world after death was unrealistic. It wasn’t worth risking his life for.

Situ Yu didn’t take it too seriously.

“Every ability has its strengths. Mind abilities aren’t easy to deal with.”

He then looked at the two snow mastiffs.

“So what are you going to do with them?”

Mo Han said,

“Help me move them to a safer place first. The smell of blood here will attract zombies soon.”

“As for later, we’ll decide after it recovers.”

“And I discovered that my ability resonates with its ice ability. It’s turning into an ice-type ability now, but it will take two or three days to fully recover.”

Since Mo Han couldn’t carry the massive snow mastiff alone, he had to wait for Situ Yu while healing it on the spot.

That night, Mo Han kept healing until his energy was exhausted. He hoped the snow mastiff would recover more before they left the next day.

The next morning, after using up his energy again, Mo Han walked over to Situ Yu and said to the snow mastiff:

“We’re leaving soon. Honestly, I hope you’ll come with us.”

He looked at the cub.

“The apocalypse is too dangerous. It survived this time, but it may not be so lucky next time. You can’t protect it alone. If you’re willing, come with me.”

Mo Han truly wanted them to come along—not just because he cared about them, but also because their ability to resonate would make him stronger.

In this dangerous world, he also needed emotional support. Compared to humans, he trusted animals more.

The snow mastiff hesitated.

Its previous owner had died. Someone once tried to use its cub as bait to escape zombies, but ended up dying himself.

The snow mastiff didn’t know if it could trust humans again.

But it also knew—it might not be able to protect its cub alone.

Mo Han didn’t rush it. Instead, he sat down and began meditating to recover his power.

At first, he didn’t know the proper way to meditate. Later, he learned how to sense energy within his body and in nature, and draw it into himself.

Seeing this, Situ Yu asked,

“You sit like a monk every day—does it really work?”

Mo Han replied,

“If supernatural powers exist, then cultivation methods should exist too. Try it yourself if you don’t believe me.”

Situ Yu was skeptical but curious. He sat down and tried.

After a moment, he suddenly opened his eyes in shock.

“It actually works!”

Mo Han felt slightly annoyed. It had taken him days to figure it out, but Situ Yu learned it instantly.

After fully recovering, Mo Han opened his eyes.

“It’s time to go.”

He then looked at the snow mastiff, waiting for its decision.

The snow mastiff hesitated for a moment—but then its eyes became firm.

It picked up its still-sleeping cub and walked toward Mo Han.

Its instincts told it—

Mo Han was different from humans it had known before.

Maybe… it could try trusting a human one more time.
