“Professor, we can’t keep waiting like this.
We need your help,” Jayce urged beside Heimerdinger.
“These weapons were built to resist magic.
Piltover was founded to escape war.
I will not agree to this,” Heimerdinger said firmly.
“But the pressure the undercity is putting on us is enormous right now.
Once they use Hextech crystals to manufacture weapons, Piltover will be the one that suffers!” “Piltover and Zaun were both built by my own hand.
I will not allow my invention to be used against Zaun.” Heimerdinger’s words left no room for negotiation.
“In that case, I can only force the use of unstable Hextech gemstones to manufacture weapons.
If we wait until Zaun has already built theirs before looking for countermeasures, it will be too late.” “I will not agree to you doing that, and the Council will not agree either.
Your Hextech still needs time to be refined slowly.” “A human life barely lasts a hundred years.
We don’t have that much time to sit around waiting for evolution.
The leader we need should be looking toward the future, not clinging to the past.” “But that will cause even more casualties.” “You have no idea how much pressure those plundered merchant ships have put on the Council.
You are the undisputed Father of Piltover.
After all these years of dedication, there is no way we can ever repay you.
I believe it’s time for this city’s beloved founder to enjoy his retirement.” When Heimerdinger heard Jayce’s words, he could hardly believe them.
“Don’t do this, my boy.” His voice trembled slightly.
“I’ll convince the other councilors.” With that, Jayce left Heimerdinger’s laboratory, leaving Heimerdinger standing there in a daze.
“Then do you know where the Hextech crystal is?” Vi asked.
“I just received word that Jinx tore a ship apart with a single shot from an electromagnetic gun.
I think the gemstone should be with her,” Ekko said flatly.
“Then what are we waiting for?
Let’s go find her,” Caitlyn urged.
Vi paused for a moment.
“Let’s move.” On the other side, Jinx walked to the highest point in Zaun.
This was where she and Vi had often talked when they were little.
She looked at the flare in her hand and remembered what Vi had once told her.
“No matter where you are, as long as you light it, I’ll find you.
I promise.” Jinx took a deep breath.
A strange nervousness spread through her heart.
What if Vi did not come?
What would happen after she came?
Then she suddenly lit the flare in her hand and raised it high.
Blue smoke spread from the flare.
Behind her, it was as though the figures of those who had once died for her appeared, Mylo, Claggor, Vander, William.
She stood there at the top like a statue of a torchbearer raising a flame.
The madness was gone.
Only calm remained.
At that moment, Silco was venting in his office.
He smashed the things on his desk hard onto the floor.
But he did not touch the ashtray Jinx had painted on or the dolls.
“How can some damn little girl be this much trouble?” he said, sitting in his chair and letting out his frustration.
“Maybe it’s fate.” Felix’s voice came from outside the door.
“Why are you here?
Didn’t you say you were going home to sleep?” Silco was a little surprised.
If he had known, he would not have smashed those things.
He did not like letting other people see him lose control.
“Jinx came back.
I told her Vi had returned.” Felix sat down in a chair and poured himself a cup of coffee.
“You’re being too impatient, Felix.” Silco grew uneasy.
“I think we should tell her.
Whether she becomes Jinx or Powder should be her choice.” “Jinx is better suited to surviving in the Lanes than Powder, Felix.” “You’re just afraid of losing Jinx.” Silco paced back and forth in the office.
“Fine.
Since you’re not afraid of losing her, why aren’t you back home sleeping?” “I’m afraid too, but I believe she won’t leave us.
Once someone becomes Jinx, there’s no way to turn back into Powder.” Felix drained the coffee in his cup in one go.
“I’ll go watch over Jinx, in case something dangerous happens.
If there’s an emergency, use the pager I gave you.” As time passed, the blue smoke gradually vanished and blended into Zaun’s haze.
The expectation in Jinx’s eyes slowly turned into disappointment.
She looked at the burned-out flare in her hand, frowned, and threw it away hard.
The Hextech gemstone inside a small box also fell onto the ground.
“Powder.” Suddenly, that familiar, gentle call came from behind her.
Jinx froze.
She turned around and saw that familiar flash of red hair.
Her eyes could not help turning wet.
“Vi?” “Powder.” Vi’s voice was choked with tears as she ran a few steps forward and hugged Jinx.
Jinx stood frozen in Vi’s arms.
Tears spilled from her eyes.
Then she hugged Vi back tightly, savoring the embrace they had been separated from for so long.
“I’m sorry, Powder.
I wanted to come back for you.
I really did, I swear, but I…
I was taken.” “By Marcus?” “I don’t know him.
That doesn’t matter.
I didn’t think I’d ever see you again.” Vi cupped Powder’s cheeks in her hands, then pulled Jinx into her arms again.
In the distance, Felix, clad in the Kingdom Mecha “Savage Wolf”, suddenly felt uncomfortable as he watched this scene.
The zoom function provided by the mech let him see more details.
He saw Jinx wavering, and he saw the door to her heart opening.
“Is it really you?” After so many years apart, Jinx could barely believe this reunion was real.
“It’s real.
Of course it’s real.
It’s me, Vi.
Your sister.
I’m back.
I’m right here.” Vi was almost incoherent.
Jinx could not hold back her tears anymore.
They kept sliding from the corners of her eyes.
“Everything changed.
I changed too.” “I know.
I understand, Powder.
Whatever you did, you did it to survive,” Vi hurried to comfort her.
“Me too.
It’s okay.
What matters is that we’re together again.” Behind them, Caitlyn and the masked Ekko also came up the stairs.
“Enforcer?
Firelights?” Jinx shoved Vi away and aimed her gun at the two of them.
“Who are they?” Jinx looked at Vi, wanting an explanation.
“You’re Jinx?
The explosion topside and the stolen gemstone, that was you, wasn’t it?” Caitlyn’s question came at the worst possible time.
“Don’t get nervous.
They’re on our side.” Two drops of cold sweat slid down Vi’s forehead as she looked at Powder, trying to calm her down.
But Jinx’s eyes had already changed.
The joy from moments ago was gone, leaving only vigilance.
Her sensitive heart needed security, and now Vi and her Enforcer companion had closed the heart she had just opened.
