"By the way, Old Qin, what’s it like suddenly having a wife and kid today?"

Qin Zhicheng shot him a sidelong glance.

"I didn’t just get them today. I got married ten months ago."Full novel: Army Wife: This Time She Keeps the Right Baby — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Instructor Xie: ...?

Fine. Forget he even asked.

"If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving."

"Hang on. Help me go get some coal and firewood."

The corner of Instructor Xie’s mouth twitched. He really knew how to boss people around.

"—Fine."

He turned and walked out.

Qin Zhicheng carried all the supplies from the vehicle into the house.

The rice, vegetables, grains, and oil were all put away in the small kitchen.

The two live chickens were tethered to the base of a small tree in the yard.

’There’s no time to deal with them today. I’ll build a coop in the corner tomorrow.’

...

Su Yun was woken by the sound of crying.

The moment she opened her eyes, she instinctively looked toward her wailing child. As she gazed at him, her heart completely melted.

’This is my baby. In this life, I will protect him with everything I have.’

Perhaps it was the deep sleep she’d just had, or maybe the bowl of hot egg porridge, but her milk was finally coming in properly.

She lifted the hem of her shirt—

Just then, the door was pushed open.

Qin Zhicheng walked in, his gaze immediately falling on her as she was lifting her top.

He immediately slammed the door shut.

Su Yun, startled by his abrupt appearance, jumped.

She quickly shifted the baby higher, using him to cover herself.

She said, flustered, "Why didn’t you knock?"

Qin Zhicheng had been about to turn away, but her words sparked a sudden, inexplicable anger in him.

His voice was level as he said, "If I’m not mistaken, we’re husband and wife."

Su Yun: ...?

Seeing her speechless expression, Qin Zhicheng’s mood improved slightly.

He spoke again. "The family housing is all ready. We’re moving over now."

"Now?" Su Yun asked, surprised.

Qin Zhicheng was about to say yes, but seeing the baby was still feeding, he awkwardly amended, "When you’re finished. The vehicle is outside."

Then he added, "There’s no rush. I’ll take your luggage over first."

With that, he stepped forward and picked up her single bag.

He had been so shocked by her and the baby’s arrival earlier that he hadn’t noticed the bag’s weight.

Now, as he lifted it, he realized it was incredibly light.

’So she traveled all this way alone with a baby and brought practically nothing?’

The thought of her parents made Qin Zhicheng suppress the complicated feelings stirring within him. He picked up the bag and walked out.

A baby less than a month old does little more than eat and sleep.

With his little belly full, he drifted off to sleep again.

Su Yun was gazing lovingly at her son, a scene that greeted Qin Zhicheng as he walked back in. ’She loves the child that much?’

’Then why does she want a divorce?’

’He just didn’t get it.’

’But it didn’t matter. A divorce was out of the question.’

"Are you ready to go?"

Su Yun heard his voice and looked up. "Yes—"

Before she could even finish, just as she was about to get up, she was suddenly lifted into the air, blanket and all.

The shock made her instinctively clutch her son, who was bundled up with her.

"Wh-what are you doing? I can walk on my own—"

"Be quiet," Qin Zhicheng said, his response a mere two words.

Then he strode outside.

The weight of the woman in his arms was negligible to him.

He placed her, still wrapped in the blanket, into the back seat of the vehicle.

After closing the door, he got into the driver’s seat.

The car started up moments later.

His movements were fluid.

Su Yun: ...?

They arrived in no time.

The vehicle stopped in front of a small courtyard house.

Qin Zhicheng got out, walked around to the back, and once again lifted her out, blanket and all.

His steps were firm and steady.
