Instructor Xie was speechless at his accusation.
"You’re blaming me for this? You ran off before I even had a chance to speak, and another thing—"
He glared at him. "Your own wife had a baby and you, her husband, didn’t even know. How do you have the nerve to blame anyone?"
Qin Zhicheng was rendered speechless by his words.
’Could he tell him he didn’t know anything at all?’
Su Yun had never even told him she was pregnant.
He took a deep breath, pushing down his frustration over this whole mess.
"My wife is obviously here to live with me on base. My dorm room won’t work. She just gave birth four days ago, so go sort out the family housing for me right now—"
Instructor Xie was stunned by his words.
"Wait, did you say your wife came to find you just four days after giving birth? So you’re saying she got on a train to find you right after having the baby?"
Qin Zhicheng nodded.
"Damn, Old Qin, you’re a real piece of work. A new mother came all this way to find you right after giving birth. Just how terrible of a husband are you?"
Qin Zhicheng’s face instantly darkened. "Shut up. Just go get it done."
With that, he turned and left.
Instructor Xie shouted after him, "Where are you going?"
"The canteen," came Qin Zhicheng’s curt reply.
He strode away.
Instructor Xie: ...?
’Well, I’d better go get this arranged.’
’After all, she came here without even observing her confinement month. We can’t let her feel neglected.’
’What if she decides she’s had enough and leaves Old Qin?’
What he never could have guessed was that Su Yun had, in fact, come to get a divorce.
Qin Zhicheng arrived at the canteen.
He headed straight for the restricted area of the back kitchen.
He happened to see Squad Leader Liang there.
"Mr. Qin, what brings you here?"
"Squad Leader Liang, my wife just arrived after giving birth. Could you help me by stewing a chicken soup for her, and make some other dishes as well? Just put it on my tab for now; I’ll pay you back later."
"Ah, your wife? A baby? Confinement?" ’Put those words together, and he couldn’t make sense of it at all.’
’When did Mr. Qin even get married?’
’Besides, normally, shouldn’t a woman properly finish her confinement month before going out after giving birth?’
’Don’t tell me she gave birth on the way here?’
"Yes, just make it for me now!"
"—Ah, okay, come back to get it in an hour. But your wife must be hungry since she just arrived. I have some freshly made congee here. You can take it for her to have something to eat first. Give me a few minutes, I’ll make it savory for you—"
"Okay." Qin Zhicheng certainly didn’t mind waiting a few minutes.
’After all, what if he went back too soon and she was still breastfeeding?’
Squad Leader Liang was incredibly fast.
In no time at all, he had prepared the congee—even whisking two eggs into it.
"Alright, it’s just lightly salted. I didn’t dare make it too salty. This is perfect for someone in confinement."
He filled a large thermos for him.
"—Oh, okay!" Qin Zhicheng took the thermos of congee and headed back.
When he got back to his dorm room door, he took another deep breath before raising his hand to knock.
He cleared his throat, then said, "I’m coming in."
"Come in!" Su Yun’s weary voice called out.
Qin Zhicheng heard the fatigue in her voice. His expression faltered for a moment before he pushed the door open and went inside.
He saw Su Yun already lying on the bed, the baby asleep by her side—peaceful now, and no longer crying.
When Su Yun noticed Qin Zhicheng’s gaze on her, she said, "I’m a little tired, so I’m just going to lie down for a bit—"
The moment Qin Zhicheng heard this, an oppressive aura instantly radiated from him.
The already cramped room seemed to become even more suffocating.
Su Yun could feel the temperature in the room drop.
She was bewildered. ’Is he angry?’
’Is he angry that I’m lying on his bed?’
"We’re husband and wife. What’s mine is yours. I can live here, and so can you. You don’t have to say things like that."
Su Yun: ...?
’I didn’t really say anything, did I?’
’Why is this man so moody?’
