“What’s going to happen to Doudou, then?” The little fellow leaned toward Xie Xiran, on the verge of tears, looking entirely helpless and pitiful.
With one hand clutching his milk bottle and the other tugging at Xie Xiran’s button, he waited for Xie Xiran to say something.
Running on sheer reflex, Xie Xiran was startled by the little fellow’s action and instinctively reached out to grab Doudou’s tiny hand.
Doudou: “?”
Blinking his big, cute, and helpless eyes, he asked, “Is Uncle Xie going to help Doudou?”
Hearing this, Bai Shu’s face darkened; he didn’t need to guess to know the little fellow was up to no mischief again.
The moment he opened his mouth, there was an unmistakable air of affectation.
Bai Shu scooped the child off Xie Xiran and said, “No.”
Caught off guard, Doudou was pulled away. Stretching out his little hands and feet toward Xie Xiran, he wailed, “I want to be held again!”
“Held your head. Stand properly.” Bai Shu gave the little fellow a light tap on the head.
Cradling his head, Doudou squatted on the ground, looking thoroughly aggrieved.
Xie Xiran hastily chimed in, “I’m fine. I can keep holding him; Doudou isn’t heavy.”
Despite saying that, Xie Xiran still shook out his arms. There was no helping it; Doudou weighed a good twenty or thirty catties, after all.
Bai Shu’s heart ached fiercely. “He’s like a little pig, and he still claims he’s fine. Your arms must be sore.”
Hearing his older brother call him a little pig, Doudou instantly threw a fit. Bending over, he tried to headbutt Shushu.
Bad Shushu! Calling him a little pig right in front of all these people didn’t he have any pride?
The little fellow grunted and pushed with all his might, but Bai Shu stopped him with a single hand.
“Hey now, behave yourself. Sit with your brother and wait for us to set off.”
Reaching behind his back, Bai Shu trapped the little fellow in his arms and shoved the milk bottle back into his mouth to keep him quiet for a while.
Tucked safely inside his brother’s arms, Doudou shot a proud little look at Xie Xiran’s arms.
As expected of him, he had successfully worn out the big bad guy’s arms until they were sore.
Hehehe~
The little fellow successfully cheered himself up again.
At that moment, Xie Zhiyi raised his hand and asked the director, “Can I switch with the piggie little brother? Let the little brother choose first.”
The director was baffled. Who was “Piggie”?
Even though the name was completely unfamiliar, the director and everyone else at the scene instinctively looked over at Doudou.
Doudou grew frantic. “Why are you looking at Doudou? Doudou is not a piggie!”
Furious, the child turned his face away and buried it in his older brother’s arms, refusing to speak. However, looking at his back, he was already enveloped in an aura of profound sorrow.
He might be Chubby Doudou, but he wasn’t a piggie!
He hadn’t expected Zhiyi Big Brother to think of him that way in his heart either. Melancholy, the little fellow chugged the very last drop of milk into his stomach.
Earlier, Xie Zhiyi had been charmed to pieces when Shushu Big Brother called Doudou a little pig. He had even pictured what Doudou would look like as a little pig, only to be completely won over by his own imagination.
And then, the word simply slipped out of his mouth.
Now, looking at Piggie no, Doudou Little Brother was definitely angry.
The director urged them on, “The first group can now set off.”
Mindful of the recent awkwardness, the director added, “No changing the order. Even though this is just a reality show, we still need to pursue fairness and justice.”
Hearing this, Xie Xiran and Xie Zhiyi, who had been entertaining some alternative ideas, had no choice but to set off first.
Xie Zhiyi ran over to pat the back of Doudou’s turned figure. “I’m sorry, Doudou. Zhiyi Big Brother will find a very, very big room. If you don’t have a house later, you can come live with Zhiyi.”
Twisting his little body in a huff, Doudou remained mad.
Time was tight and tasks were heavy; Xie Xiran simply tucked Xie Zhiyi under his arm and ran off, following the directional signs.
Not long after, it was Liu Qing and Qianqian’s turn.
Before setting off, Qianqian also walked over to hug Doudou and said softly, “Doudou, Sister will find a big room too. How about you come live with Sister then?”
Doudou: “?”
What did all these people mean? Why were they all coming over to hug him?
Nearby, Liu Qing finally breathed a sigh of relief now that his daughter had stopped crying, only to discover that she had been staring intently at Doudou the whole time. Now, she was even declaring that she wanted to sleep in the same room as him, which utterly shattered the poor father’s heart.
“All right, all right. Qianqian needs to set off with Daddy.”
Upon hearing this, Qianqian leaned over and planted a kiss right on Doudou’s cheek. “Wait for Sister to get you a big house, okay?”
Both Liu Qing and Doudou wore identical expressions of absolute shock.
Liu Qing was equal parts exasperated and helpless when on earth would Qianqian ever take the initiative to kiss him?
Terrified that his daughter might pull another stunt that would pierce a dagger through a doting father’s heart, Liu Qing copied Xie Xiran’s method, tucked his daughter under his arm, and bolted.
At this point, only Pingping and Tian Yuewei remained.
Bai Shu was helplessly wiping the child’s face. “Why are you so well-liked? Does everyone like piggies?” Bai Shu teased deliberately.
Hearing that, Doudou flared up again. “Doudou is not a piggie!”
Hahahaha Doudou is a little pig, Bai Shu really doesn’t leave the little cub an ounce of face.
Not gonna lie, the way Doudou was headbutting people really did look like a little pig, grunting and snorting. Too cute.
Zhiyi actually said what was on his mind. Looks like Doudou is locked in as a piggie, since even Zhiyi, who likes him the most, is calling him that now.
Pigbies are cute too, and the children all love Doudou.
I wonder if anyone noticed Pingping? Just after Doudou was picked up from Xie Xiran by his uncle and his feet touched the ground, his jaw dropped so wide he looked completely shell-shocked, questioning his entire existence.
Did he just realize something? Hahahaha I’m starting to look forward to what happens next.
While Doudou was still busy arguing with his older brother about whether or not he was a piggie, Pingping trudged heavily over.
The wind blew across the cowlick on his forehead, lending him a distinct sense of worldly vicissitudes.
Pingping: “Doudou…”
Doudou instinctively shrank back into Bai Shu’s arms. What was this guy trying to do?
Wasn’t he thinking of coming over to hug him too?
If he also thought Doudou was a piggie, there was no way he was getting a hug.
“You—can you walk?” Pingping asked with difficulty, his gaze fixed entirely on Doudou’s legs.
Doudou: “…Of course Doudou can walk! Even piggies can walk!”
“No wait, Doudou walking has nothing to do with piggies!”
Doudou’s mind was completely filled with Doudou and piggies, almost spinning himself into a dizzy mess.
Pingping was left feeling just as dazed. Doudou could walk, piggies could walk, so did Doudou equal a piggie?
No, no, that wasn’t the question he came to ask.
Shaking his head, Pingping flicked away the unrelated thoughts.
He pointed at Doudou’s legs instead. “What Pingping meant is, weren’t you limping just a moment ago? Why are you back to normal now?”
He had seen the limp with his own eyes, and he had seen the normal walking with his own eyes.
Doudou felt his brain going numb for the day what kind of blockhead babies was he doing a variety show with?
Why were there so many strange questions?
“Doudou was never limping. Did you see wrong?”
Doudou stretched out his legs and even hopped out of Bai Shu’s arms to bounce around a bit.
Curious, Pingping circled around Doudou to inspect him.
There really was no problem.
Faced with this realization, Pingping let out a tragic shriek: “Ah—Mommy, I’ve become a disabled baby! My eyes are broken!”
At this point, he didn’t just suspect his eyes were broken; his brain must be broken too.
If not, where did the image of Doudou limping that had been stuck in his head come from?
Pingping was frightened to tears: “Wuwuwu I think I’ve turned stupid…”
Tian Yuewei reached out the back of her hand to feel her son’s forehead. “Are you alright?”
This child came up with things she couldn’t understand day in and day out.
Bai Shu and some of the staff in the know were biting their lips so hard trying not to laugh they were practically passing out.
Wiping away the tears of laughter from the corner of his eye, Bai Shu walked over to clear things up for the mother and son.
“Here’s the thing, Pingping. Doudou’s legs are completely fine, and your eyes are normal too. His legs just fell asleep from sleeping too long this morning.”
After hearing Bai Shu’s explanation, Tian Yuewei was left alternating between laughter and tears.
She stroked her son’s head. “Alright, do you understand now? And remember to be polite from now on. You are not allowed to come running down shouting at the top of your lungs like that, or nobody will want to be friends with you.”
Teary-eyed, Pingping nodded. Clinging to his mother’s leg, he asked in a small voice, “Then can Doudou Little Brother be friends with Pingping?”
Doudou didn’t have many friends, but television had taught him that choosing friends required caution.
“We can, but Doudou has to ask you one question.” Doudou raised a single finger.
Pingping nodded. “Of course, go ahead.”
“Is Doudou a piggie?”
“Of course not, you’re a human.”
“Alright, from now on you are Doudou’s friend.” Doudou was thoroughly satisfied.
He shot a triumphant look at Bai Shu: See, he’s a person, definitely not a little piggie.
Bai Shu was left speechless. An idiot little brother like this seemed even dumber than before.
Did anyone want to claim a silly younger brother? Minor flaws included.
Hahahaha both of them are a little derpy.
I’m dying of laughter. Such a ridiculous question, yet one asked with total seriousness and the other answered with total seriousness, lmao.
Pingping’s behavior is completely different at home. Is this what they call bullying your own while acting timid outside?
He feels a lot more polite outside now, and he’s starting to rely on Sister Wei too.
I hope he doesn’t revert back to his old self after going back this time, it gives people a headache.
By the time Bai Shu and his group finally set off, the two of them were taking their sweet time, completely unhurried.
Realizing something was amiss, Doudou started spinning a frantic remedy: “Shushu, don’t worry, the last house is definitely the best one.”
“No matter what, as long as I’m with Shushu, Doudou is happy.”
“Doudou will always stay with Shushu.”
Along the way, terrified that his older brother couldn’t handle the reality of them placing last and winding up with a terrible place to live, the little fellow poured on the charm to comfort Bai Shu endlessly.
Bai Shu felt like his younger brother was practically Tripitaka.
He just kept chattering and chattering until Bai Shu’s head was spinning.
Reaching out to clamp a hand over his brother’s mouth, Bai Shu tucked him under his arm and sprinted forward: “Do us both a favor and shut your mouth.”
The outcome was a foregone conclusion, but the ritual sense of participation still needed to be dialed up to the max.
Wriggling free from his brother’s hand, Doudou shrieked in mock terror: “Ahhhh—”
Which rapidly morphed into a squeal of excited giggles.
As they drew near the location of the final house, the sound of grunting drifted over, causing Doudou’s ears to twitch.
Bai Shu lowered his gaze to look down at the child.
“Doudou, it sounds like your brother is inside.”
Doudou: …
If his brother’s call sounded like grunting, then what did that make Shushu?
