Marco’s tired eyes narrowed thoughtfully.

Not in disagreement.

He’d directed enough films to recognize the difference between someone complaining…

…and someone solving a problem.

“Lena,” he said, folding his arms, “you’ve been sitting on this all day?” She shrugged.

“I wanted to make sure I wasn’t overthinking it.” “And now?” “I’m sure.” Marco glanced down at the digital call sheet displayed on his tablet.

His thumb scrolled through tomorrow’s schedule.

Dinner scene.

Park sequence.

Argument.

Balcony confession.

Rain kiss.

Back again to an earlier montage.

He frowned.

“…That is a lot of jumping around.” “Exactly.” Lena pointed at the schedule.

“The actors are constantly resetting emotionally.” She looked toward Timothy.

“One moment they’re strangers.” She moved her finger down the page.

“Then they’re saying goodbye forever.” Another swipe.

“Then they’re flirting over coffee.” Marco let out a quiet hum.

“The continuity team mentioned wardrobe headaches yesterday…” “They did.” “And camera.” “And makeup.” “And lighting.” Lena smiled faintly.

“If we shoot the emotional progression in order, everybody’s job gets easier.” Marco remained silent.

He wasn’t convinced yet.

Not completely.

“What about Elara’s availability?” “We’ve still got her.” “The weather?” “The rain rig is booked for the rest of the week.” “The budget?” “Minimal impact.” Lena answered each question without hesitation.

She’d clearly thought this through long before walking over.

Marco rubbed the bridge of his nose.

“I hate changing schedules.” “I know.” “I really hate changing schedules.” “I know.” “But…” She smiled.

“…you hate continuity errors even more.” That earned the first laugh I’d heard from Marco all day.

“…Fair.” His attention shifted toward Timothy.

“You’ve been awfully quiet.” Timothy lowered his folded arms.

“I was waiting until you asked.” Marco tilted his head.

“So?” Timothy glanced briefly at the schedule.

Then answered with the same calm professionalism he’d shown all day.

“I think she’s right.” Marco raised an eyebrow.

“You do?” “It’ll help the performances.” No hesitation.

“If we build the relationship naturally before shooting the ending…” He tapped the tablet lightly.

“…the emotional payoff will feel more authentic.” There wasn’t a hint of personal discomfort in his voice.

No complaint.

No mention of difficult scenes.

Just an actor discussing character work.

Marco studied him for another long moment.

Then looked back at Lena.

“…You’re both making my life difficult.” Lena grinned.

“Our specialty.” He sighed dramatically.

“…Fine.” He tapped several buttons on the tablet.

“We’re flipping it.” The words spread across the nearby crew almost instantly.

“Call sheet change!” “Tomorrow’s schedule’s been updated!” “Wardrobe, hold on the balcony costumes!” “Continuity, new sequence!” Walkie-talkies crackled to life all across the soundstage.

Production assistants hurried off in different directions.

Someone from scheduling groaned.

Someone else cheered because it meant fewer overnight resets.

Within minutes, the entire production had adjusted.

Just like that.

Not because of personal feelings.

Not because anyone was playing favorites.

Because the creative reasoning was sound.

Lena caught my eye from across the room.

She didn’t wink.

Didn’t celebrate.

She simply gave the tiniest nod.

Done.

I smiled gratefully.

A silent thank you.

Across the set, Timothy remained beside Marco for another few moments while final details were discussed.

Then…

The conversation ended.

Marco headed toward the production office.

Timothy stayed where he was.

His gaze slowly lifted.

Across the gradually emptying soundstage…

Our eyes met.

Something softened in his expression.

He’d heard the discussion.

He knew why the schedule had changed from a creative standpoint.

And perhaps…

He also understood that I’d chosen the professional path instead of letting today’s emotions spill into the workplace.

Not because I wanted to hide how I felt.

But because this film mattered to him.

His work mattered to him.

And if there was a way to make both the production and our lives a little easier…

Why wouldn’t I choose it?

For a moment, neither of us moved.

The evening sun painted long golden streaks across the polished studio floor.

Crew members wheeled equipment between us.

Conversations rose and faded into the background.

Then Timothy took a step.

Another.

Not hurried.

Not dramatic.

Just the quiet, familiar walk of a husband making his way toward his wife after a very long day.

This time…

There were no cameras watching.

No director waiting.

No marks taped to the floor telling him where to stand.

Just us.

And the conversation we’d promised each other when the work was finally over.
