When Zeynep entered through the iron gate of the old cemetery,

the morning mist was still lingering over the soil.Full novel: BORN THROUGH THE DARKNESS — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

As her feet stepped on the wet leaves scattered between the stones,

something inside her stirred.

This silence felt like a kind of whisper…

Not of the dead,

but of prayers left unfinished.

Şefika followed behind her slowly.

“There are stones in this cemetery that speak,” she said.

“They need eyes that see, and a heart that hears.”

Zeynep held the letter and the mirror tightly in her hands.

The traces Fatıma had left had brought her here.

One of the gravestones

belonged to a woman’s grave, almost completely covered with moss.

The inscription read:

> Fatıma bint Hasan

Returned to the Truth: 1967

The one who prays is never forgotten,

The one who forgives never perishes.

At the bottom, there was a very small letter.

When she scraped away the moss, it appeared:

“Z”

Zeynep knelt in front of the stone.

That letter was her.

It was written for her.

In that moment, her knees gave way.

She didn’t cry…

She just rested her head against the stone.

The residue in her soul

was washed away not by tears,

but by acceptance.

> “Mother…” she whispered,

“I remember you now without anger.

And I forgive you.”

She took out the Qur’an,

and recited Al-Fatiha.

The tremble in her voice

felt as if it were waiting for a reply from the sky.

Şefika slowly approached and crouched down on the dry soil next to the grave.

She pulled a small notebook from her pocket.

She flipped through its yellowed pages,

and wrote a prayer on a blank one.

Then handed the notebook to Zeynep.

“This isn't for your mother—

it's for the mother hidden inside you.”

Zeynep held the pen.

And wrote from the heart:

> “If I ever have a child one day,

I will name her Fatıma.

Not to remember—

but never to forget…”

Just then,

from behind one of the stones at the back of the grave,

a corner of a paper seemed to appear.

Zeynep carefully pulled it out.

An envelope.

It had only three words written on it:

“Don’t be late.”

As Zeynep narrowed her eyes,

the sound of the call to prayer rose in the distance.

And suddenly,

a man appeared behind her.

Wearing a long overcoat,

an old flat cap on his head.

His face was hidden,

but his voice echoed deeply:

“Are you Fatıma’s daughter?”

Zeyn

ep held her breath.

Who was this man?

And what was he doing at this grave?..

To be continued…
