Day 7 – Blood Bond
Zeynep couldn’t sleep that night.
Fatıma’s notebook lay open by her bedside.
The sentence the woman had spoken kept echoing in her mind:
“Because you carry her blood.”
Zeynep thought about her past until morning.
Her mother had passed away when she was very young.
Her relationship with her father had always been distant.
She knew very little about her family.
But now a truth was slowly taking shape:
Could Zeynep be Fatıma’s granddaughter?
She opened the second page of the notebook.
There was a lock of hair and a prayer on the page.
Written in delicate, elegant handwriting:
> “O Lord, I entrust this child to You.
Protect her from time and from oppression.
She flowed from my heart into my blood, from my blood into time.”
Below it, a date was written:
November 25, 1945.
It was the exact birth date of Zeynep’s mother.
Yes, now she had no doubt.
This notebook was not just a memoir—
It was a legacy that belonged to her family.
Before dawn, Zeynep made her way to the station again.
This time, she wasn’t afraid.
She descended into the cellar once more.
But this time, she wasn’t alone.
The door was open.
The old woman was there again inside.
In her hands, an old fabric bundle…
When she saw Zeynep, she bowed her head.
“It’s time we talked,” said the woman.
“I’m Fatıma’s sister. My name is Şefika.”
Zeynep swallowed hard.
Şefika continued:
“I placed those letters. I hid that chest.
But I waited for you to come and find it.
Because only someone who carries ‘hope’ could open that door.”
Tears welled up in Zeynep’s eyes.
“But why? Why didn’t you tell me?”
Şefika sat on the ground and opened the bundle.
Inside were an old baby vest, a necklace, and a yellowed photograph.
In the photo, a young woman—Fatıma—
Smiling with a baby in her arms.
And in the background was a familiar silhouette:
The woman Zeynep thought was her grandmother.
But no.
That woman… was her mother.
In that moment, Zeynep felt a strange warmth deep in her heart.
As if a prayer whispered by a heart long ago had finally reached her.
Zeynep’s Notebook – Day 7
> “Blood is not always just blood.
Some bonds are written with prayers.
And some traces are carried through generations…
To a heart strong enough to bear hope.”
But just then…
There was a faint noise from inside the chest.
Zeynep and Şefika turned to look.
The last page of the notebook had opened by itself.
And there was something written there.
But this writing didn’t be
long to this time…
A map…
And beneath it, a single word:
“Istanbul – Well.”
To be continued…
