24 – Hе is in раin
Sо this is whаt it fееls like to bе firmlу аnd unwаvеringly suppоrtеd… it’s actuаlly… this wondеrful!
Fоr а mоmеnt, shе found hеrsеlf grоwing fond оf this versiоn of Mо Тingyаn.
Thе dinnеr gаthering wаsn’t оver уеt, but Wеn Zhi, аfrаid thаt Мo Тingjue wоuld сontinue to pеster hеr, eхсusеd hеrself by сlaiming she hаd drunk tоо muсh and wаsn’t feеling well, then mаdе hеr ехit.
Bаck in her roоm, shе tооk оut her phonе аnd рostеd a shоrt dubbing video tо hеr асcount.
Аftеr finishing with the videо, she quicklу gоt intо bеd and wаs just аbout to rest when Mo Tingуan shоwеd uр—
Аftеr oрening the doоr and рulling him inside, Wеn Zhi evеn poked her head out to look left and right, making sure no one had followed, before finally closing the door with relief.
She turned to face Mo Tingyan and said sternly, “Why are you here again? What if someone sees you…”
But Mo Tingyan grabbed her hand, staring at her wrist as he asked, “Have you washed this hand?”
Wen Zhi was completely baffled.
Mo Tingyan grinned mischievously. “That scumbag touched it, and he’s so filthy. You should wash it.”
Wen Zhi: “…”
As if he’s any cleaner!
She brushed off his grip, walked into the room, opened her bag, took out the watch, and tossed it to Mo Tingyan. Sitting at the foot of the bed with a stern expression, she looked at him and said, “Do you always live like this? A watch worth two hundred thousand, and you just give it away like that?”
Mo Tingyan walked over with a smile, trying to hug her, but Wen Zhi avoided him.
Knowing she was angry, he leaned in closer and coaxed her with a playful grin. “It’s fake. I just bought it to show off. I have a lot of fake designer watches.”
As he spoke, he took out his phone, opened a photo from his album, and showed it to her. “Look, I bought dozens at once. They’re all high-quality replicas. As long as you don’t take them off, no one can tell they’re fake.”
Wen Zhi looked at the rows of ‘designer watches’ in the photo and thought of what her colleague had said. She raised her hand to touch her necklace and asked, “What about this necklace?”
“This necklace really only cost four thousand. Although it wasn’t made by a true master, the logo on the back is genuine—I had a friend get it from CJ. Since no one has actually seen this private custom piece, as long as the logo is real, it’s real. You can wear it with confidence.”
Wen Zhi was truly speechless. “Is it really necessary to be this vain? What does it matter if it’s designer or not? And… Lin Yue has seen plenty of designer items. Aren’t you afraid she’ll find out it’s fake if she wins the watch?”
Mo Tingyan raised a slender finger, hooked her chin, and gave a sly, light laugh without saying a word.
Wen Zhi was confused. “What are you laughing at?”
Mo Tingyan replied, “Knowing you, you’re so frugal that you’d never let me lose such an expensive watch. As long as you accepted the challenge, you could teach the gossipy Lin Yue a lesson, avoid Mo Tingjue’s continued pestering, and win back my watch. Isn’t that killing three birds with one stone?”
Wen Zhi: “…”
“What if I couldn’t play the piano?”
Mo Tingyan raised an eyebrow proudly. “Since I’ve seen other people’s resumes, I’ve naturally seen yours too. Your resume lists piano as a talent, and knowing you, if you wrote it down, your skill level must be decent. Besides, I’m one of the judges. Do you really think I’d let you lose?”
Wen Zhi: “…”
He really knew how to leave her speechless.
Seeing that she didn’t seem inclined to pursue the matter further, Mo Tingyan secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
“It’s getting late. I need to sleep. You should go back and rest.”Wen Zhi began to show him the door, but Mo Tingyan circled to the other side of the bed and said seriously, “I’m sleeping here tonight.”
Hearing this, Wen Zhi’s expression turned stern. “No, I told you, I’m not used to having someone sleep beside me.”
Mo Tingyan looked at her, clicked his tongue, and said, “But today is a special case. When I came over, I saw Mo Tingjue heading this way too, though he didn’t notice me. If I leave now, there’s a good chance I’ll run into him.”
Wen Zhi retorted, “Stop making excuses.”
“Zhangzhu, I’m telling the truth. Don’t worry, we already drove the Ferrari before we left. I promise I’ll just hold you and sleep honestly, nothing else. Don’t kick me out, okay?”
Wen Zhi glanced toward the door, hesitated for a moment, and warned, “If you break your word, don’t expect me to trust you ever again.”
With that, she nestled into the blanket, turning her back to him as she lay down.
A triumphant smile curled at the corner of Mo Tingyan’s lips. He reached out from behind, pulling her into his embrace and holding her close.
Wen Zhi let out a soft hiss, but before she could turn around and say anything, Mo Tingyan had already exhaled a warm breath against the nape of her neck, coaxing, “Just holding you, nothing else. Goodnight.”
Wen Zhi shivered slightly as her neck tingled. Surprisingly, being held didn’t feel as uncomfortable or constraining as she had imagined.
Instead… why did it inexplicably feel so safe?
She shifted her head on the pillow, finding a comfortable position before slowly closing her eyes. Before long, their breathing intertwined as both drifted into a deep sleep.
Wen Zhi had a long dream, peaceful and beautiful, but her body suddenly trembled violently.
She furrowed her brows, the sound of hurried breathing and uneasy murmurs in her ears gradually pulling her consciousness back from the dream.
She abruptly opened her eyes and realized that, at some point, she and Mo Tingyan had ended up sleeping face-to-face, wrapped in each other’s arms.
The man before her was now trapped in a nightmare. His thin clothes were soaked with sweat, and under the dim glow of the spotlight, his features were contorted in pain.
He shook his head repeatedly, holding Wen Zhi tightly in his arms as he murmured softly.
It took Wen Zhi a while to make out what he was saying.
“Come back, come back quickly.”
“Don’t go, you’ll die…”
Wen Zhi was held so tightly she could barely breathe. She could feel that Mo Tingyan, trapped in his nightmare, was in extreme agony.
Remembering how he had been plagued by nightmares the last time, she hesitated for a moment before wrapping her arms around him, gently stroking his back in reassurance and whispering, “Don’t worry, I’ll listen to you. I won’t go.”
This time, Mo Tingyan didn’t jolt awake at her touch. Instead… he gradually calmed down, and his tight embrace slowly loosened.
Wen Zhi regained her comfortable breathing and couldn’t help but wonder: What kind of dream was it that tormented him like this time and again? And who was he calling out to? His… white moonlight?
But she was too tired. Soon, sleepiness overpowered her curiosity, and she drifted back into slumber.
In the early morning, Mo Tingyan woke from his sleep to find Wen Zhi still nestled in his arms.
An unconscious smile touched the corners of his lips.
Last night, he had surprisingly slept soundly, free from the torment of nightmares throughout the night. It was the first time since the incident that he had slept so well. How long had it been since he last experienced the feeling of waking up after a full night’s sleep?
Gazing at the person sleeping soundly in his arms, Mo Tingyan inexplicably fell into deep thought…
