“Little girl, although we don’t need to rely on the Fu family, your grandfather and Fu Yunting’s grandfather, Fu Yaonan, were sworn brothers back in the day. I thought after all these years, everyone had forgotten, but since this was Yaonan’s dying wish, we should honor that promise.”

Sheng Yuyue actually found the whole concept of “arranged marriage by parental decree and matchmaker’s word” quite repulsive, but she had never held much expectation for marriage anyway. So when her grandfather proposed that she honor the agreement and get married, she didn’t put up much resistance.

Grandfather was getting old, and his wish was to see her married with children while he was still alive.Full novel: Ceo’s Wife Disguised as Secretary, Flirts and Runs Away — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

For her, it was as simple as lifting a finger.

Of course, if she had to marry someone, Fu Yunting was indeed a good choice—at the very least, he had money and looks, and rumor had it he was an ascetic type who kept his distance from women. A true “rare find.”

But after today’s incident, Sheng Yuyue couldn’t help but sigh—he really was a “rare find,” all right.

“I know, I know. You’ve said this no fewer than a hundred times.”

Sheng Yuyue put her phone on speaker, tossed it onto the passenger seat, and started the engine. With a whoosh, the car shot forward.

“So has he taken you to your bridal chamber yet?”

“Screech—”

One sentence from Sheng Zhuohan sent Sheng Yuyue, who had been heading home, slamming on the brakes.

She’d almost forgotten—she was married now. She had to live with her husband, not go back home. If she went home now, her grandfather would surely notice something was off.

“Yes, I’m heading there now.”

Sheng Yuyue replied with the enthusiasm of someone who had nothing left to live for.

“Good, good, good. You two hurry on back, and give me a little grandkid to play with soon!”

Sheng Zhuohan hung up cheerfully, leaving Sheng Yuyue standing in the wind, utterly disheveled.

She grabbed her bag from the passenger seat, pulled out the note inside, and entered the address into the car’s navigation system.

Forty minutes later, the Koenigsegg came to a stop in front of a villa halfway up the mountain.

She got out and walked toward the villa.

A butler quickly came out to greet her.

“You must be the young madam? Welcome home. I’m the butler of this villa. You can call me Uncle Tian from now on.”

Sheng Yuyue nodded. She hadn’t expected that Fu Yunting, who couldn’t even be bothered to show up for his own wedding, would have arranged everything else so meticulously.

“Young madam, shall I show you to your room to rest first?”

Uncle Tian followed behind Sheng Yuyue, speaking with utmost respect.

“Young madam, this is the room for you and the young master.”

“Since you’ve just arrived today, and we don’t know which brands of toiletries and clothing you prefer, we thought we’d wait for you to return before having things sent over.”

Though Sheng Yuyue came from a wealthy family herself and was used to having plenty of servants, it wasn’t easy to find someone as thorough as Uncle Tian.

Clearly, the butlers and servants from the Fu household were of a higher caliber.

“Alright, I’ll write down a list of things I need shortly, and I’ll trouble Uncle Tian to arrange them.”

Though Sheng Yuyue had a somewhat haughty personality, that was reserved for certain people only.

From the moment she walked in, she could see that Uncle Tian had a kind, benevolent face, and it was obvious he was meticulously attentive to her daily needs. That alone earned him a measure of goodwill from her.

The butler, for his part, seemed surprised that Sheng Yuyue, who looked like she might be difficult to get along with, was actually so polite and spoke to him with such a gentle tone.

In an instant, he formed a very high opinion of this new young madam.

Thus, with the meticulous arrangements made by Uncle Tian, the butler, Sheng Yuyue settled into the hillside villa with an easy conscience.

She had no idea when Fu Yunting might come home, but then again, she held little expectation of it.

A man who could miss even the marriage license registration—she could already foresee that he most likely would not return to this villa at all.

They were destined to be the most estranged of couples.
