After all the busy work, only now, lying in bed, did she have time to check her phone.

Opening WeChat, she discovered that Su Wenjing had accepted her friend request quite some time ago.

The phone screen lit up in the darkness, and Wen Zhi’s gaze was drawn to Su Wenjing’s WeChat profile picture.Full novel: Cherished Deeply, Gently Doted On — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

A cute Labrador with round, innocent-looking eyes, and above the dog’s head, his slender, large hand, as if gently petting it. His WeChat nickname was simple, just “su.”—concise yet full of personality.

Wen Zhi recalled his help that evening, and a sense of gratitude welled up in her heart. After some thought, she felt she should still say hello.

So, she opened the chat window with Su Wenjing, her fingers hesitating over the screen for a long time before finally typing two words: “Hello.”

After sending it, she felt it seemed a bit too cold, so she added another sentence: “Thank you for your help tonight, senior~.”

Then, she sent a cute sticker and quickly exited the chat window.

For some reason, Wen Zhi felt a bit flustered. She didn’t know how Su Wenjing would reply, nor whether she had been too forward.

Lying in bed, she stared at the ceiling, her thoughts drifting far away.

In the heart of the bustling city, Jinxi Garden was located in the city’s most prestigious financial district, surrounded by skyscrapers and high-end shopping centers, showcasing its unparalleled location.

At this moment, Su Wenjing was inside a spacious two-story penthouse.

However, Su Wenjing had no time to appreciate any of this. He had just returned home, still carrying the distinct scent of the billiards hall.

Who knew what had gotten into Song Bojian, insisting on dragging him to play billiards for several hours? As a result, the sports car he had just handed over hadn’t even warmed up before it was lost back to him.

Su Wenjing couldn’t help but laugh at the thought. He shook his head, took off his jacket, casually tossed it onto the sofa, and walked to the bar, leisurely pouring himself a glass of plain water.

Pulling his phone from his pocket, he had just turned on the screen when he saw Wen Zhi’s message.

Instantly, a smile spread across his eyes and brows.

“At least she has some conscience, knowing to send a message.”

But he was too lazy to type now, so he simply pressed the voice button, his tone relaxed and somewhat nonchalant:

“You’re welcome. Think about what you’ll treat me to next time, junior.”

The morning sunlight filtered through the gaps in the curtains, casting dappled light across Wen Zhi’s dorm room.

Wen Zhi groggily woke from her dreams, rubbing her bleary eyes and habitually reaching for her phone on the bedside table. Squinting, she struggled to make out the time on the screen—7:15, still a good half hour before class.

Wen Zhi yawned, struggling to sit up in bed, her feet fumbling for her slippers. She wobbled toward the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and splashed a handful of cool water on her face. The refreshing sensation instantly chased away her drowsiness, making her slightly more alert.

After finishing her morning routine, Wen Zhi busily began packing her schoolbag and gathering the materials she needed for class.

Her movements were somewhat mechanical, her mind still lingering on the dream that had inadvertently surfaced the night before. Suddenly, her gaze swept over her phone screen, where she noticed an unread message from Su Wenjing.

Wen Zhi paused, a flicker of surprise rising in her heart. She checked the time the message was sent.

Still awake so late?

She curiously tapped on the message, only to unexpectedly find it was a voice note. Bringing her phone close to her ear, she lightly tapped the screen, ready to listen, but felt her finger accidentally hit the speaker button.

“You’re welcome. Think about what you’ll treat me to next time, little junior.”

Su Wenjing’s voice, cool and deep, echoed through the phone speaker in the quiet dorm room.

Wen Zhi’s face instantly flushed bright red. Flustered, she tried to turn off the speaker, but the more she panicked, the clumsier she became, nearly dropping her phone.

The dorm fell silent, as if time had frozen. A few seconds later, her roommates stopped what they were doing, their curious gazes all turning toward her.

“Ahhhh, Zhi Zhi, is that Su Wenjing?!” Li Yue was the first to break the silence, her eyes wide open, wearing an expression that clearly said, “See, and you said you weren’t close!”

“It must be him! Spill it, spill it! You two are actually chatting, and he sent you a voice note? Wow!”

Zhang Tingting excitedly patted her bed, her face full of excitement.

“Zhi Zhi, darling, be honest now! Confess and you’ll be treated leniently; resist and you’ll face the consequences!” Even Liang Zhiruo, who usually focused on studying and wasn’t into gossip, chimed in teasingly, her tone full of playful mockery.

The girls chattered noisily, crowding around Wen Zhi and encircling her. Wen Zhi felt a bit overwhelmed. She smiled awkwardly, trying to explain, “Um… it’s really nothing…”

“He was just replying politely, that’s all!”

Yes, that’s exactly it!

Wen Zhi thought to herself.

“Who replies politely with a voice note, and at this hour of the night?” Li Yue laughed, teasing her.

“And he called you ‘little junior’?”

Wen Zhi stubbornly refused to go along with it, shrugging innocently. “Well, what if he just prefers sending voice notes? Some people do love using voice messages. Besides, President Su is incredibly busy. Replying with voice notes probably helps him be more efficient.”

“Oh, right, right, right. Keep being stubborn. Who was it that confidently complained to him last night?”

Mentioning that, Wen Zhi felt even more justified. She explained earnestly, “Well, he’s the only person I know there. We’ve at least had a meal together before. I couldn’t just leave him hanging, could I?”

“Ugh, I’m not talking to you guys anymore! I’m going to be late for my training class!”

As soon as she finished speaking, Wen Zhi saw she was running out of time. In a frantic hurry, she tossed out that sentence, grabbed her already packed bag, and rushed out the door.

Watching Wen Zhi’s disappearing figure, Zhang Tingting and Li Yue exchanged a knowing smile.

“Just wait and see. Someone in our dorm is about to get into a relationship,” Li Yue declared with absolute certainty.

“I agree!”

Zhang Tingting gave Li Yue’s palm a playful slap.

The midday sun streamed through the windows of the dance studio, casting dappled light on the floor.

Wen Zhi, wearing a light dance dress, had just finished her morning dance class. Her cheeks were slightly flushed, sweat trickling down her forehead, radiating youthful energy. She changed out of her dance shoes into her everyday ones, slung her shoulder bag over her arm, and headed out to get lunch.

Just then, she received a message from her mom: 【Sweetie, are you coming home for National Day? Or are you going out with friends?】

Actually, she was originally from Haishi, and her home wasn’t far from the university. Normally, it would be easy for her to go home and stay for two days every weekend.

But with the start of the school year, the first month was packed with military training and school anniversary events, and amid the busyness, she hadn’t given this matter much thought.

However, just a few days ago, Wen Zhi had made plans with her best friend Shen Muxi to spend a few days in Hong Kong during the National Day holiday.

With no other choice, Wen Zhi slung her single-shoulder bag and pressed the voice message button as she walked, saying, “Well, I made plans with Xixi to go to Hong Kong together. But before that, I’ll go home to pack some things. I can stay at home for a day before heading out.”

After sending the message, Wen Zhi glanced down at the chat page.

Wait!

Why was it Su Wenjing?!

When had she accidentally tapped into his chat window?!
