Su Yi said triumphantly to herself, “Good thing I watch survival shows all the time. This is nothing to me!”
With that, she started drilling wood to make fire. Before long, a small flame sparked to life. Su Yi then began cooking her wild vegetable soup.
Staring at the ingredients in the pot, Su Yi thought, ‘Well, having something is better than nothing. Tomorrow, I’ll venture a bit further out to see what I can find. I’ll take it step by step. I also need to figure out the security issue. What if a wild beast comes around?’
A short while later, the “clear” wild vegetable soup was ready. Su Yi drank enough of it to bloat her stomach with water, and then she set to work fortifying her “safehouse.”
She picked up a few wooden sticks she had gathered and wedged them tightly behind the door. That was all she could do, as she truly couldn’t think of any other way. However, this would suffice for now; unless someone possessed immense strength, they wouldn’t be able to push the door open.
Su Yi spread the thatch over the earthen kang bed, covering it entirely. Since the thatch was dry, the small earthen bed felt as though it had a soft mattress on top. Piling onto it, Su Yi found it quite comfortable.
Gazing up at her “starry-sky ceiling” (the holes in the roof), she planned how she would improve her house tomorrow. Before she knew it, she drifted off to sleep. She was simply too exhausted.
In the early morning, the crisp chirping of birds woke Su Yi up.
Su Yi rolled over on the thatch and sat up. “I slept pretty well. This kang bed is actually quite comfortable and soft. I need to hurry up and look for food, otherwise, I’m going to starve today.”
With that, she got off the bed and walked out the door in one smooth motion.
After walking just a few steps, her stomach began to growl furiously.
Su Yi headed toward the area she visited yesterday but ventured a bit deeper into the forest. She spotted a fruit tree, but it was completely out of her reach. The fruits that had fallen to the ground were all rotten, while the ones high up were bright red, making Su Yi’s empty stomach crave them even more.
“Time to climb a tree! It’s not like I’ve never done it before. Even though I haven’t climbed in years, my skills should still be there! Little fruits, here I come!!” Su Yi swallowed her saliva as she muttered to herself.
She climbed for a long time before finally managing to reach the fruits. She quickly plucked one, wiped it clean with her hand, and took a bite. As the fully ripened flesh entered her mouth, the sweet, refreshing juice instantly brought her a wave of pure satisfaction. Within moments, a single fruit was down her throat, and Su Yi finally felt a bit full.
She then began picking more fruit. Since her hands couldn’t hold them all and she would have to climb down later anyway, she had no choice but to throw them down to the ground. She plucked every single fruit within her reach and tossed them below.
Having finished throwing them, Su Yi began her descent. Because her body felt heavy, she climbed down very slowly. On the very last step, she accidentally missed her footing!
With a sudden slip, she fell backward hard. The impact stung sharply, leaving her dazed and disoriented. Shaking her head to clear her vision, she suddenly seemed to see a massive amount of things appearing..
