Marcus gave him a side glance but ignored him, Mercury clicked his tongue and watched the other opponent.
Standing before Marcus was a tall thin man dressed exactly how one would expect a wizard to dress.
A long robe and pointy hat with a long staff on his hand. The man raised his staff and pointed it at Marcus.
As soon as the fight started, he fired a wave of ice at Marcus the followed with a serpent of water.
The serpent was nearly 10 metres long and moved so fast it surpassed the ice wave reaching Marcus first.
As it passed through the ice wave it turned into a serpent of ice with flowing water inside it.
’ Ho, he’s quite good.’ Remarked Mercury, unfortunately for the guy, he was up against the wrong opponent.
Marcus was known to use three elements, wind, fire and lightning with lightning being his strongest.
Marcus raised his hand, his movements appeared slow but before his opponent knew it he had grabbed the ice serpent.
It struggled to break free to no avail, his opponent grinned, " Ha you fell for it." The serpent expanded like a balloon.
’ It’s going to explode, this guy is really good, how unfortunate, if he was up against somebody else..’ Mercury shook his head.
The serpent exploded into a wave of water and ice large enough to envelop half the stage.
When the water disappeared, Marcus appeared unharmed, his body was as dry as it had always been.
" How is this possible?" Asked his opponent with suprise and fear.
Marcus gave him a prideful yet dismissive glance, " If you thought somebody of that calibre was worth anything, then you’re more worthless than I made you out to be."
He waved his hand dismissively, a powerful gust of wind blew through the stage, his opponent created an ice barrier.
The wind shattered it instantly sending him flying out of the stage with many cut over his entire body.
Mercury shook his head, ’ As much as I hate to admit it, this bastard is incredibly powerful.’
Two more matches followed after his but they were not as impressive as the last few, drawing very little noise from the crowd.
After them came the last battle of the first round, two women faced each other both as gorgeous as elves.
One was dressed in a long white robe with the insignia of a rising sun on her chest, her opponent was dressed like a witch.
A long black tight dress with thin slits on both sides that extended to her thighs, short sleeves that revealed her side boobs and a long black pointy hat.
The dress could barely hide her massive breasts, it revealed a cleavage that could make any man drool.
’ Get it together Mercury, you’re a grown man.’ Mercury was seventeen in his past life, combined with his sixteen years here, he considered himself an old man.
It was stupid but he kept convincing himself that’s how it should be but no matter how hard he tried to convince himself.
His teenage body couldn’t help but react to that girl. He knew her as well, he knew her as well.
Her name was Satella, she was known as the succubus witch which she hated, for a valid reason.
The succubus and the witches were both demon clans, although there were debates whether the witches were actual demons.
Her opponent was a famous devout worshipper of the God of light, the ruling god of this world.
In the church of light, those with dark elemental mana were considered abominations.
Satella wasn’t touched because she was the daughter of a marquis and her father was an S ranked warrior.
However that didn’t stop the worshippers of the god of light from hating her as seen by her opponent.
" Perish under the holy light of the great God you abominable thing!" Shouted before opponent as soon as the fight began.
She cast a spell and a magic circle appeared above Satella, not every spell had a magic circle but those that did were known to be powerful.
Satella looked up with an amused expression then looked at her opponent with a seductive smile.
Even Mercury felt his lower body reacting on its own, ’ Damnit, calm down you starving beast.’
He turned his attention back to the fight and it ended just like that, Satella whispered something and her opponent dropped to the floor unconscious.
Mercury heard her clearly, Satella merely told the girl to sleep and just like that she went to sleep.
’ Curse magic.’ Curse magic were spells of the dark element, they were status effects and impossible to dodge.
You can either resist them or cast cleansing spells to undo them, some curses can even effect your next generations.
’ Maybe I should ask her if she knows anything about my curse, no I doubt she does.
Father did hire some specialist and even they didn’t know anything about this curse.’ Mercury still wanted to break the curse.
Although bolts was an impressive technique, he still wanted to be able to cast certain spells.
There were things brute mana couldn’t do like the special curses Satella can use, darkness mana on its own can’t do that.
The first round of the tournament ended, the second round was scheduled for tomorrow so everybody left.
It was nearly midnight when the first round ended, Mercury had no idea where to go so he went back to the ruins of his fallen house.
When he got there he found two women waiting for him," Young master." One of them greeted him with a bow.
Mercury gave her a simple nod and looked at the other woman. " Mother, what can I help you with?" He asked.
" Oh how cold, you’re breaking your mother’s fragile heart." She pretended to be hurt and did a dramatic fainting.
Mercury shook his head and ignored her, he sat down and started casting random spells to pass the time.
She sat next to him, " You did good today, you made me proud but I don’t understand why you joined this tournament."
Mercury looked at her, ’ It seems she’s not aware.’
" I didn’t choose to, they signed me up themselves." Mercury suddenly felt the temperature drop.
" Who did? How dare they, tell me right now and I’ll pay them a visit."
He knew she was serious, she might just kill the deacon, his mother was a hothead, only his father can tame her.
" What of that little girl, when do you two plan to get married, I’m getting old you know, I need to see my grandchildren before I die."
Mercury just sighed, " It seems there’s a lot you don’t know mother but anyways, I know you didn’t come here for pleasantries.
So has father made a decision about my future?" Mercury asked.
His mother held him but she didn’t say anything.
